Do you have ideas for this year's Summer Reading Program? If you do, then be sure to come to next week's (January 22) Teen Advisory Group meeting. The #1 item on our agenda for this month is to discuss program and prize ideas for the 2014 Summer Reading Program. Last year TAG came up with some really awesome ideas that really made the program special. Can we do it again? TAG meets from 3:00-3:40 pm.
After TAG we will also be discussing our Teen Book Club pick of the month:
Cinder by Marissa Meyer. I can't wait to talk about with book with those of you who have read it!

This Valentine's Day, be sure to visit the library and take part in the best part of the holiday: Chocolate! Teen Chocolate tasting is back by popular demand. First, we'll sample a few different types of chocolate and vote on our favorites. After that we'll have lots of other chocolate treats to try.
Registration is required to attend this event! Sign up at the Children's Desk starting on January 30. Get a friend to sign up with you - chocolate is way more fun with friends.

I'm really excited about a book that I recently took home,
Rose Under Fire by Elizabeth Wein. This author also wrote
Code Name Verity, which is one of my favorite books of all time.
Rose Under Fire is a companion novel. So excited to see how this one measures up!
What is everyone else reading?

It's been awhile since I last posted a list of our newest books. But I have some good ones that just arrived!
Full Ride by Margaret Peterson Haddix
Ketchup Clouds by Annabel Pitcher
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman
Palace of Spies by Sarah Zettel
Little Fish A Memoir from a Different Kind of Year by Ramsey Beyer
Pandemic Survival It's Why You're Alive by Ann Love
Vampire Legends and Myths by Roxanne Hellman
Check out the New shelves to find these books and more. Or, place a hold yourself through the library's catalog!

I just finished another great contemporary read,
The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider. The writing was fantastic, the characters were interesting, and the twist at the end of the book truly surprised me.

TAG will be meeting tomorrow on Wednesday, November 27. This is the date that TAG was origionally scheduled for. I know that most of you have off of school on that day, but we weren't able to get enough concensus to arrange a change in the date. Hopefully you guys can still make it to the library for a little while today!
We have lots to talk about at TAG today, including our Christmas party next month. If we have time we may also talk a bit out other programs that we want to do this year, and maybe even a little bit about the Summer Reading Program.

Who is excited for the release of the Catching Fire movie? Get in the mood by taking this online quiz to discover which of the 12 districts you belong in:

As many of you know, TAG and Teen Book club generally meet on the 4th Wednesday of every month. However, it has recently come to my attention that those of you who attend Pewaukee Public Schools will have off on the day when TAG is scheduled to meet this month. Because of this and because Thanksgiving is the following day, it has been suggested that we reschedule TAG and Book Club for the 3rd Wednesday of the month - November 20.
Before I agree to this change, I absolutely NEED to hear from everyone who plans to attend to know that this day will work. If you are planning to attend, please reply to this thread to let me know if this change works for you. Thanks!

I know of at least a couple of
Markus Zusak fans in this group! If you enjoyed
The Book Thief,
I Am the Messenger, or any of this author's other works, then you may be interested in Zusak's upcoming video chat here on Goodreads. The chat will take place on November 5. During this chat, Zusak will primarily be talking about his most famous work,
The Book Thief, as well as the upcoming film adaptation.

Don't forget that this week is Teen Read Week! Visit the library and check out the special activities that are taking place this week.
Today (October 16) Teen Advisory Group and Teen Book Club are meeting at 3:00 pm. Today we will be brainstorming ideas for upcoming teen events. If you have ideas for a program, or if you want to veto my lousy ideas, or even if you just like snacks, then definitely come to TAG!
This week there are also two contests that you can enter for a chance to win great prizes. If you write a book review for us, you will be entered for a chance to win a book of your choice from our prize box. You can also enter the Coverflip contest (description in the post above) for a chance to win a $20 Barnes and Noble Gift Card.
On top of all that, there is a great book display set up with books that other teens have highly recommended. Be sure to grab one of these great books ASAP before they're all gone!

Now that everyone's back to school... What have you all been reading? I just finished
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell, and it was fantastic. Great blend of romance and tragedy set in the 1980s. I'm excited to get my hands of the author's lastest book,
Fangirl next.

Speaking of Teen Read Week (Oct. 14-19), be sure to visit the library when you can and pick up a flier that talks about the special activities that we have going on during this week. There will be two contests at the library during this week:
1) Books Teens Love Raffle. Remember the book reviews posted in the YA area of the library? Fill out one of these review forms, attach a sheet with your full name and phone number, and drop it in the drop box during Teen Read Week. Two winners will be selected at random to win a book of their choice.
2) Coverflip Contest. Did you see the link that I posted awhile back about Maureen Johnson's Coverflip challenge? This YA author challenged all of her followers on Twitter to redesign the covers of their favorite books as if the author were of the opposite gender. For this contest, you are challenged to participate in the challenge by redesigning the book cover of your choice. One winner will be selected to win a $20 Barnes and Noble gift card. Entries must be submitted via e-mail no later than Monday, October 21 at 9:00 am, so start working on your book covers now!
Pick up a flier at the library for the full rules.

This Wednesday at 3:00 pm, our Teen Advisory Group will be meeting. As a group we will be putting together a book display for Teen Read Week featuring our favorite books. Come If you can, come to the meeting with a copy of your favorite book (or come prepared to find it on the library shelves).
Afterwards the Teen Book Club will be meeting to discuss the book
This Dark Endeavor.
There will be snacks at both programs. Hope to see you there.

Decision made! For the month of October the Teen Book Club will be reading
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. The vote was very split - you guys made my job very difficult! We'll keep some of these other books on the back burner for sure for future Book Club meetings.
When TAG meets next week (September 25!) we will be deciding which books that the book club will be reading for the next few months. The discussion will probably be a little more dynamic in person than it was online. Hope to see everybody there!

Don't forget that on the second Wednesday of every month teens are invited to play some Wii games at the library! Today we will be playing Mario Kart and Wii Sports Resort. As always, there will be snacks. See you there!

Has anyone else noticed that lots of great teen books are being turned into movies? From the recently released "City of Bones" to the highly anticipated "Catching Fire" to the critically acclaimed "The Book Thief," there are lots of movies to be excited about if you're a fan of YA fiction. Take a look at this article to read up on some of the upcoming releases:
http://www.slj.com/2013/08/books-medi...Which movies are you most excited about?

I stumbled upon a Young Adult book quiz at the Christian Science Monitor today. Can you match these quotes to the correct book? Your librarian managed to get a perfect score. :)

More awesome new books just hit the shelves! Visit the library soon to check these out:
The Shade of the Moon by Susan Pfeffer
Lauren Yanofsky Hates the Holocaust by Leanne Liberman
September Girls by Bennett Madison
Who Is AC by Hope Larson
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Tucholke
Darius and Twig by Walter Dean Myers
The Boy on the Bridge by Natalie Standiford

Next week Tuesday (8/27) we will be showing a movie here at the library. Because of the terms of our movie license (which allows the library to show movies to the public) I'm not legally allowed to tell you the name of the movie on this website, but I can give you a description that should make our movie choice clear:
A reluctant halfling sets out on an unexpected journey to the Lonely Mountain with a spirited group of Dwarves to reclaim their stolen mountain home from a dragon named Smaug.
Tickets are required to attend this movie event. You can pick up free tickets at the Children's Desk anytime the library is open. Hope to see you there!
