What new books are you most excited to read?
Are there any books that you really want to see on your library's shelves? Let us know and we can probably make it happen!
The new books listed here all need to be processed, but you can look for these titles in the New Books area soon. In the meantime, go ahead an place your holds today if you see something here that looks good!

Have you ever read any books other than this one from the steampunk genre? If you have, tell us about them.
Whether you have read other steampunk books or not, tell us what you think of this genre. Do you like the style? What do you like or not like about it?

Even before I began the book, I was intrigued by the different ways certain advances were made in this steampunk-esque alternate history. Both Deryn and Alek have compelling storylines, and I'm anxious to find out what happens next.

First, if you still need a copy of the book so that you can start reading, be sure to visit the library ASAP and talk to a Children's Librarian. As of this moment (June 23) all paper copies of the book have already been check out by eager teen readers. If you still need a copy of the book, we will have to place you on the hold list so that you will get a copy of the book when one is returned by another reader. Those of you who have already finished the book: Please return it to the library ASAP so that someone else can get started on the book. Thanks!
The good news: Copies of the audiobook remain! Pick up a copy of the book on CD at the Children's Desk soon before those run out too. I have listened to this book on CD before, and it's actually a lot of fun to listen to. The narrator is fantastic and makes the story come alive.
For the first few weeks, we are going to try to limit discussion of the book to topics that will be introduced during the first 20 chapters of the book. During this time, please try to keep your posts spoiler-free so that the ending isn't given away to someone who hasn't finished reading the book yet. Starting on July 7, however, all bets are off and we will begin discussing the ending of the book. If you haven't finished the book by this time that's absolutely fine. Take your time and finish whenever you are able. Just be warned that there may be some talk about the book's ending here.
Do you have other questions about the book club? Post your questions here, or visit the library and talk to one of the Children's Librarians.

Please, no spoilers about the end of the book just yet. No everyone has had a chance to finish. Even if you have yet to finish the book, go ahead and tell us what you think so far!

Everyone, keep the books coming. Don't forget that reading something from the sci-fi and steampunk genres are two of the challenges listed in your Extra Challenge booklet, so watch this space for more ideas.

As always, please sign up in advance for this program by visiting, calling (262-691-5670, ex. 32), or e-mailing the library.

Anusha - That book sounds really interesting. Adding another book to my own to-read list...

Let's get a discussion started about this theme. What books have you read that you would recommend to other teens that fall into these categories? Tell us the title, the author, and a little bit about what makes the book a good read.

As always, please sign up in advance for this program by visiting, calling (262-691-5670, ex. 32), or e-mailing the library.
Don't want to sing? That's fine. Every performer needs a good audience, so please come anyway.

Don't forget that today (June 16) is the first day that you can visit the library with your reading booklets and collect prizes. Hope to see you at the library soon!

I (Sandy) currently have The Geography of You and Me by Jennifer E. Smith on my stack at home. I've read and enjoyed this author's other books, and I'm looking forward to another light summer romance.

At our book club meeting we will be watching the movie based on the book, staring Logan Lerman and Emma Watson. After watching the movie we will discuss both the book and the film. And as always, snacks will be served. Please come and join us!

Everyone who wants to attend this movie MUST pick up a ticket in advance. Tickets are free and are available at the Children's Desk. Visit us ASAP to pick up your tickets!
As always, there will be snacks.

Since graphic novels are usually fairly quick reads anyone who wants to participate should have plenty of time to read all three books before we meet on March 26. If you find, however, that you're simply unable to read all three books then don't worry - just pick and choose the ones that you want to read. No worries.
Stop in at the library and pick up copies of the books as soon as possible from the Children's Desk!

Have you read any of these books? Do you think that they're the best of the best, or are there other great titles out there that were passed over?
