I can really see what you mean about how Zebra marketed the series. From looking at the books I assumed the story was more Eastern in story and seting, especially with the oriental dragons on the covers. The covers of the re-releases are awesome and seem geared more to the subject matter.

Ted, thank you for all the background information about your series. I'll certainly keep an eye out for that upcoming Gonji, Dark Ventures from Wildside Press. Are all of the re-releases of your previous books through them as well? I think it's awesome they are putting a lot of OOP Sword and Sorcery books back out there.

I am currently reading Gonji Deathwind of Vedun. Just missing the group read by a few months, I have the pleasure of digging into this series. It took me this long to run down the books because used bookstores have all but disappeared in my part of the country. I have numerous titles with the Zebra Books logo on the spine, but sadly I have never come across this author or series. Well, let's begin!

Welcome aboard Howie!

I couldn't agree more Greg! Let the work stand by itself, don't prop it up with an overinflated mass marketing success. Several books I own say on the cover 'in the tradition of Conan...' and several aren't relevant or even merit such an accolade.

The story sounds very interesting. I'm not a fan of how every new fantasy novel gets compared to Game of Thrones, but I'll keep an eye out for this trilogy.

Just yesterday I started Deathworms of Kratos by Richard Avery. This is part of a four book series called the Expendables; which seems more adventure than science fiction. An enjoyable read thus far!

Thanks for the links for the anthologies! There were several titles I was completely unaware of.

I have seen the other series, but they didn't seem appealing to me either. I discovered this Children of the Lion series in some local thrift stores. The covers grabbed my attention, and who can say no to $0.25 paperbacks?

I'm still trying to run down #17 Death of Kings. Lol, the lady at my local used bookstore said, '...those books are as old as the hills!', when I called her about some of the titles I was missing. I have paperbacks that were 'old' when Children of the Lion was published.
Jack wrote: "Just started Glen Cook's Bleak Seasons, the first book in the four-book concluding arc of The Black Company series. I plan to read the four books straight through and get 'er done."Envious. I would love the re-read those one day. I discovered Glen Cook with the Black Company series. I enjoyed the Dread Empire books just as much or more and hope to get around to reading his Garrett P.I. books someday.

I'm reading Children of the Lion by Peter Danielson. This story is historical fiction and is about Abraham leading his people out of Egypt to conquer and claim lands in Canaan. Even though the characters are Biblical, the story is more adventure than religious. Half way through and I'm very pleased with it.

Welcome, Raoul.

Glad to have you aboard, Tim.

Looks over the top. It's sure to cause a buzz. Count me out.

I got a Lancer edition of The Dying Earth by Jack Vance for only $0.75 today. Printed in the '50's and coming from a thrift store it's in awesome shape.

Not too long ago I finished Conan the Freebooter. As a whole I just really didn't enjoy it. Perhaps it was de Camp's liberties with non-Conan stories or perhaps it was just me. The whole book seemed bland, leaving little etched on my memory. The one thing that I took away from it was Conan's crucifixion and how it was used in the film.
Peter wrote: "Started with Shadows Linger, the second Black Company book. The first book didn't exactly blow me away, but members of this group have been so enthusiastic about the series, I decided..."Great series! Although, with great hype comes great expectations. I can see how it didn't blow you away. If Shadows Linger doesn't hook you, maybe this series isn't for you.

S.wagenaar, if only you were a movie producer. You sound like you have really thought it through. You make it all seem attainable.
