Cool interview, some good info found therein, but not sure I agree with "demonstrating why Staveley is one of the foremost authors of epic fantasy in recent years."

Druss is awesome. Druss is good. Reading more Druss is good.
I too am reading Gemmell, just begun the omnibus of the first 2 Rigante books, TALES OF THE RIGANTE.

interesting...

Phil, I will be most interested to read your thoughts on these two books. I submitted to these and was declined, but what disappointed me most was seeing that the editor had stories in both.

"Thief Who Wasn't There (Amra Thetys series #4)" by Michael McClung. Fun, fun, fun s&s run-n-gun...if s&s had guns...how 'bout run-n-stun...or run-n-cut 'em down till they're done!?
anyway, read this series, try reading it for free:

That would be just right!

C.L. Werner's Brunner, I recommend omnibus, but that might be a bit much to bite off, though getting all the stories in one package is sweet.

I also just grabbed the eBook off Amazon. thanks for the recommendation - anyone that evokes Erikson, Cook, & Leiber is already a winner.

@Mary - best defense, er, definition of 'grimdark' that makes sense and I can accept as qualifying it as a standalone genre.

Seth's Black Raven stories are a delight. in another timeline, RBE was his publisher. ah, well. I'm just thrilled by his success.

@Jack, I really enjoyed the first 2 books of the first Black Company trilogy. a lot. I felt book 3 a bit of a let down, story- and character- wise, though. I've yet to read the following trilogy(ies?).

not to mention a certain oversized old dude swings a mean blade...

S.E., you met Kabbar in Return of the Sword...

Nice add! (and social peer pressure!)

Nice shout-out to Willow!

cool, Jack, look forward to hearing your thoughts. I've only read the first trilogy and The Silver Spike, but after I introduced a friend to Steven Erikson (who regularly praises Cook), my friend consumed all of Cook's Black Company and really enjoyed it.

lol, thanks for the warning Jack! way to take one for the good of the group ;)

Joseph, thanks for the Gygax reading order. I have all of those books except for the short story collection. I actually got conned into them close to a decade ago when a brother of a friend was down on his luck and selling things and my friend knew I was interested in "those types of books" so he arranged for me to go buy a number of books sight unseen. these are beat to crap and he wanted ten bucks a book. Finally got him down to $5 a book but based on condition and reviews I waaaaay overpaid. perhaps it's time I give them a shot.

you are a brave man Jack! I'll pray for your survival!
