Aria snorted at the guy as he profusely apologized. He was funny and kinda cute in a dorky-overly-apologetic way she concluded with a bright smile on her face. And very very familiar. Swirling the drink in her hand with a thin straw she watched his face, calculating. Who was this guy? There was no way that they haven't met before. Then he answered her subliminal question.
Adam Newton?...Adam...Newton...Oh!
"Adam Newton! Warwick Times's Adam Newton!" She exclaimed turning to face him with her entire body excitedly. "Oh my gosh, we work together." She giggled. Well, work was a little far fetched. Unless you count going on coffee runs and editing pre-written new articles as work. Still, she knew him. Her instincts almost never lie.

Casper was extremely nervous, though he determined on not letting that show through his cool facade. While preparing himself at home, he washed his face with cold water and stared into the mirror, watching the fanged face that stared back. He hadn't been to such a large social event since his turning. The whole ordeal made his stomach churn. And yet, he still shut the light and proceed to walk out of his house.
You got this Casper, you're in control. He thought to himself before he opened the huge doors that led to the lobby. Briskly strolling in, he scanned the crowd.
He was, of course, looking for his unexpectedly new friend Vee, who told him that she would meet him there. He'd seen some familiar faces, some who waved, others who simply stared -- surprised by the mere fact that Casper Grey, the man most haven't seen in person since 2015 was striding in like nothing ever happened. He passed by them without a word and continued to the hallway where he spotted Vee with her back turned, seemingly lost.
"You clean up nicely." He offered, with a white-toothed smile.

Upon hearing a male voice beside her, Aria turned with her lips curled in a smile behind the rim of the glass cup. Setting it down, leaving behind a bright red lip stain where she drank, she looked at the stranger who took a seat next to her. His face was familiar, and his voice she could have sworn she'd heard before, but Aria just couldn't put her finger on it. So she simply brushed it aside. Lightly chuckling at his statement she smiled at the friendly face nodding.
"I can definetly cheers to that." Aria laughed, clinking together their cups before continuing to down the burning liquid, chasing it down with a lemon wedge. Taking in a harsh breath at the biting sting that the liquor left in her throat she scrunched her nose. "God that stuff's strong." She said to herself, shuddering. Realizing that he was still looking at her, she added "Please don't think I'm an alcoholic. I drink on occasion." Cringing at how bad that sounded as it left her mouth, she stuck her hand out. "That was a bad introduction, my names Aria. Aria Croft, nice to meet you."

Aria was running on three hours of sleep. After deciding last minute to work on her essay submission for her creative writing workshop she has been awake nonstop, making sure her eyes were glued open by means of downing expresso shots and eating raw sugar packets. Still buzzing from her high, she sat at the bar, twirling an empty glass that was previously filled with cherry soda spiked with vodka around her fingertips. The last time she went to the New Years Ball she was 15, and ever since that year she stopped going not because she didn’t enjoy it — she just never have the time.
Struggling to get her foot in the door to become a journalist while simultaneously keeping her grades in the mid 90s and showing up on time everyday to be an intern for the Warwick Times was so draining. If there wasn’t a deadline there was a task to be done or a call to be made. She’s spent the last week with her lights on at 3 o’clock in the morning researching for the next big term paper she should have already started by now. And if that wasn’t enough, she had at least 17 reminders on her phone vibrating at all times just to make sure that she could never got the chance to let her guard down.
Still, this ball relived at least some of her pent up stress. She’d been entertained by some colleagues earlier, but they had ditched her at the bar to go to the dance floor — which was okay, Aria was fine by herself. Signaling for another shot of alcohol (the bartender definitely didn’t know she was underage plus a year wouldn’t make that much of a difference right?) Aria downed it, leaning back on her chair to watch everyone else arrive and socialize.
