Salem pushed some runaway tendrils of light blonde hair from her face as she squinted past the sun’s rays. Today’s weather has been pretty much unexpected, sunshine peering through the clouds, evaporating the damp floor that was rained on the night before. Today’s activities have been unexpected as well, who would have pictures Salem actually running errands and gazing in amazement as she watched Lorenzo and Sam walk in front of her to the entrance of the grocery store. The whole time Salem would think that she was handling this whole situation quite well — her palms were slick with nervous sweat, and her cheeks were flushed — but overall she is doing a solid performance of the whole “yeah-i’m-totally-not-in-love-with-you” act. Which is a feat in itself. Remaining calm she followed the duo as the walking inside.
Catching Salem at a supermarket is kind of like spotting a teacher in a public place — it’s as surprising as it is awkward, and Salem definitely felt extremely out of place. It’s the constant beeps of the registers and the squeak of the carts that reinforced the idea that Salem is completely out of her element. Sure, she’s been here a couple of time for necessities but takeout and fast food have been her best friends since she’s “moved” to Warwick. The list on her cellphone was extensive but ultimately would be abandoned, since ingredients had no place in her home (seriously she barely knows how to cook). She even stuffed her phone in her pocket subconsciously, further proving that point. When Lorenzo spoke she snapped out of her daze only to see him and Sam staring at her with their cart already picked out.
Part of her didn’t want to go alone, she’d be completely lost. I mean, she can’t tell the difference between low sodium and whole wheat for god’s sake. Luckily it didn’t have to come to that for Sammy, as if he was reading her mind, protested the separation. Lorenzo argued (of course) but she knew he was going to cave. So instead of acknowledging his protests she simply shrugged and began pushing the cart with Sam giggling, still on it. Turning over her shoulder she looked at Lorenzo with mock seriousness. “I mean hey, you heard the boss.” Then she lowered her voice so only Sam could hear her and murmured “And for that Sammy, I’ll buy you some fruit snacks. But shhh don’t tell your grump-pants brother.” Which only made Sam burst into laughter.

Casper offered her a warm smile that contrasted the coolness of his body temperature as he lightly placed a pale hand on her arm, giving it a reassuring squeeze. Vee reminded him of all the people he’s left behind, the relief in her eyes only giving him comfort that there was at least one person on the planet who still can view him as more than a monster. He was there to help, and being a helper was benefitting Casper more than Vee could ever know. He was useful not dangerous, he was a mentor not a monster.
He released his hand, instead moving closer to give her comfort as regular humans brushed past them, offering excuse me’s as apologies for being so rough. He could smell each and every living being in the hallway and he could tell Vee could too. The only difference is that he knew how to block the urges out, and maintain his composure. He wasn’t too sure about Vee. “I know, I’m guessing that all these people are temptations to you, and it’s hard to resist the urge. But you must.” He held his hands behind his back as he continued to lead them forward. Casually leaning down to whisper in her ear, cautious of however could be listening he breathed “You’re not going to attack anyone tonight, I promise.” And with that he straightened with a smile to the other guests who had no idea of what Vee and Casper were talking about, greeting whoever shared eye contact with him.

She took a giddy sip out of the little red straw the leaned against her drink. As she studied him, all the memories flooded back. They’ve crossed paths a couple of times before, though the encounters were usually very brief and hurried. He always seemed ansty (the way he accidently spilled his drink when she made her sudden realization only further proved her point) though she could relate with him, though the reason why her leg was bobbing up and down feverently was because of the coffee that caused caffeine to run through her veins like a live wire of crackling electricity.
“I haven’t ever gotten a chance to talk to you, its weird,” She pondering aloud, throat hot and burning from the alcohol. “Crazy how we work in such a small building and never properly met.” She looked at him again, linking everything from his hair to the stuttering awkward way that he speaks to the same intern she sees vauglely during the week. “What have they been making you do?” They was a reference to the newspaper. For Aria, her life as an intern mainly revolved around anything that didn’t involve writing, which was frustrating, but the work experience is worth it.
