1. Brutes (audoibook) ⭐️.5
god i wanted to like this book. the covers stunning, the blurb intrigued me enough, and most of my goodreads friends who read it enjoyed it. the only good thing about this book was how short it was (just over 3 hours listening time). it was convoluted, written in a way that was overly pretentious and just too much. i really wanted to like it, but i honestly have no idea what i even listened to. no plot just vibes in the worst kind of way.
2. House of Hollow (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
i really enjoyed this one, it was right up my alley - a thriller/mystery with a dark whimsy fairytale vibe to it. it was the perfect length, and i loved and was compelled by the characters we were introduced to. honestly i was hooked from the beginning, and kept me engaged and hooked until the end. the mystery itself was really well considered, and all the reveals were executed perfectly. highly highly recommend.
3 & 4. The Stolen Heir & The Prisoner’s Throne (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
i actually really liked this duology, going in i was quite hesitant as i'd seen so many people comparing it to the cruel prince series (in a bad way). i think if you read this book as its own thing, its a pretty solid series. i listened to both as audiobooks, but i liked the first book a bit better. i preferred the mfc perspective and the narrator used for the book, but the second book felt slightly more plot forward which i enjoyed.
5. The Girl from Munich (audiobook) ⭐️.5
this book just wasn't good. i've owned it since it came out, and this year i've made a point to read books i've owned for long periods of time. i listened to this via audiobook, but this book was so lacklustre and bland. idk, a plot premise of a nazi romance just isn't for me and the results did nothing to help either.
6. Daisy Haites (410) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
i reallyyyyyy liked this book, more than magnolia parks. the character dynamics, daisy and christian, all of it. slightly annoyed that daisy seemed to have some written similarities to magnolia even though they're quite different characters, but i think it was due to the authors writing. daisy and christians relationship was sooo cute, and i loved the way it developed. the ending was devastating but so well done and true to the characters and their motivations. can't wait to finish the series next year!
7. Call Me Evie (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️
this was mediocre, and i just didn't really have it in me to care. some reveals were obvious, some i didn't expect and didn't go in the direction that i personally liked. it was infuriating how all these people around this girl seemingly gaslit and didn't help her when she asked for it. however, the storyline was pretty circular and didn't leave many loose ends - making for a lacklustre but conclusive ending.
8. The Escape Room (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
i quite enjoyed this one. it's probably my least fav megan goldin novel i've read so far, but it wasn't terrible. i was much more invested in the earlier timeline rather than the elevator scenes, but i really enjoyed certain aspects of the novel. it just fell a bit short on the thriller aspect of it, much more of a mystery imo.
9. The Paradise Problem (352) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
this book was soooo cute. i was literally giggling and kicking my feet the whole time whilst reading this book. the premise of this book was so much fun, and the two characters were so well-matched for each other. apart from the epilogue being too long for my liking, this book was *chefs kiss*.
10. The Virgin Suicides (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️
honestly my review sums up how i feel about this book, i really wanted to like it but it just felt short for me. disappointing, but at least the edition i own is pretty.
11. The Reappearance of Rachel Price (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
i actually really liked this one, like really liked it. going in, the premise was pretty straightforward and i really thought rachel was 'bad'. i loved the way the author subtly weaved the gaslighting/unstable narrator aspect of the novel, and the story ended up being more complex and emotionally moving than i thought it would've. really liked this one.
Spark (audiobook) DNF
this book was just too juvenile to me. it's very much of its era, which isn't a bad thing per se, but i've just outgrown it.
Caught Up DNF/TBC
this just wasn't good, may revisit in the future but cbf to continue this right now.
12. The Good Daughter (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
second karin slaughter i've read and i can't believe i waited this long. i really enjoyed this one, not as much as pretty girls, but it was still an incredible read. another devastating story tied by two sisters, i preferred the storyline revolving the sister past and their present relationship with said past - but found the story around the shooting a bit weak/predictable.
13. Tom Lake (audiobook) (audiobook) ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
i actually quite liked this book. it isn't the type of book i typically gravitate towards, but i found it at the op shop and i'm really glad i did. whilst i didn't love it personally, if you told me this was your all-time favourite book i wouldn't be surprised. it was well written, meryl streep narrating this novel was a lovely surprise, but i unfortunately just didn't love it.
14. Rogue Protocol ⭐️⭐️⭐️.75
probably my least favourite in the series so far, but still a really enjoyable story. can't wait to read the next one and reunite with old characters.
15. Minx (333) ⭐️⭐️
this one just wasn't for me. i was definitely intrigued in the beginning, but just never grew to care about either character or their relationship. kinda meh.
16. The Secret History ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ .75
i'm really glad i managed to get to this one. i enjoyed book one significantly more than book two, hence the lower rating than i expected to give this book. started off thinking 'poor bunny' and progressed to 'can we kill him already omg'. can't lie, kinda love henry so idk what that says about me (that i'm basic probably), but book two felt slightly disjointed to me. however, the ending tugged at the heart strings and i really like how she wrapped things up. i will say, whilst i listened to this via audiobook, i definitely need to read it physically and think certain aspects of the book would be better appreciated in that format.
17. Blindsighted ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
karin slaughter does it again - 3/3. this was a really compelling novel, and it's refreshing to read female characters in these types of novels who are actually written well with complexities and an existence outside of their gender. she really throws you into this story - right at the end of chapter one, but appreciated the fast pace of the novel. can't wait to pick up the next one.
18. A Day of Fallen Night (868) ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
i absolutely adored this book, unlike the first book i found the pacing much better in this one - especially surrounding the end of the story. samantha shannon has a way of writing characters that make them so loveable and makes you invest in them so much. all perspectives i loved, and the ending devastated me whilst also making me want to re-read the priory of the orange tree immediately. i'm so glad i prioritised getting to this book this year, and can't wait (but unfortunately have to) to read the next book!
