439228 Discussion for Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor.

When a massive object crashes into the ocean off the coast of Lagos, Nigeria’s most populous and legendary city, three people wandering along Bar Beach (Adaora, the marine biologist- Anthony, the rapper famous throughout Africa- Agu, the troubled soldier) find themselves running a race against time to save the country they love and the world itself… from itself.

Told from multiple points of view and crisscrossing narratives, combining everything from superhero comics to Nigerian mythology to tie together a story about a city consuming itself.

‘There was no time to flee. No time to turn. No time to shriek. And there was no pain. It was like being thrown into the stars.’

I am Legend (5 new)
Apr 21, 2019 07:50PM

439228 I forgot to comment after I finished! It’s been a few weeks now. I liked the scientific way he goes about testing the vampires so he can find better ways to survive.
I really wanted to dog to hang around! That bummed me out quite a bit. I thought it was interesting the weird relationship he had with his ex-coworker. How he would hunt him in the day and the co-worker would come taunt him in the night and how sad it was when the new vamp society show up at the end.

The version I read had other stories as well, and I did not like them as much. There were some racist overtones that made me cringe. I am legend was definitely the best story in the book.

I finished Halsey Street this week and I agree with you 100%! I liked the book but Penelope could stand a kick in the ass sometimes.

439228 I started this today. I am loving it so far. It also makes me want to revisit some Lovecraft! I might have to do that next.
