439228 Like Night, this book made me wrestle with questions of humanity. How are we capable of such horror? What price did camp survivors have to pay for their survival? I love how the good bits of humanity strive to remain in the face of such atrocity.

On a another note, I subscribe to The Guardian's weekly book newsletter and this month they had this article and it made me think. What responsibility does an author have when telling a true story fictionally?

439228 Reading your review brought the story back to me. I can’t wait for the next book to come out this year. Maybe we can do a buddy read?

439228 Sorry, I thought I’d said! Sometimes I forget that I haven’t shared my thoughts in way others can see, lol! I thought Elsewhere was charming and pulled at the heart strings! I thought the premise was interesting and well played out. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

439228 Hi Ivana! I look forward to doing this challenge with you! I am a kindergarten teacher. I have a long commute so I listen to audio books a lot.I have a wide taste in books, so feel free to suggest whatever. You don't need to stick to my TBR shelf.

I checked out your bookshelves and I think for January I will suggest for you:

1. The Bear and the Nightingale. I am looking forward to book 3 coming out in January.

2. Another great YA fantasy is Children of Blood and Bone.

3. Next we'll switch genres and go with The Light Between Oceans. This made me cry.

4. Next I'll suggest You. This one is super creepy. I am looking forward to reading book 2 this year.

5. Last I'll suggest The Giver. I just finished Gathering Blue this week and it reminded me how much I liked The Giver.

I hope you enjoy!!
439228 I’ll join for quarter 1.

My favorite genres are contemporary literary fiction and fantasy but I read fairly widely. I like sci-fi, classics, I’ve been more into thrillers and mysteries lately. I read some YA and middle grade. I have a reading goal for 2019 to read more women and more books in translation.

I am not a fan of romance for the most part, but I’m willing to branch out. One of the Book Riot tasks for 2019 is a book of erotica, which is not a genre I am too familiar with, so I’m interested in exploring more of that.

I am willing to have two partners if there is an odd number.

439228 December List

You - I read this recently for another book club. It is super creepy.

American Gods - I just love Gaiman! This is one of my favs.

There There - One of the best books I have read this year in the literary fiction genre.

The Radium Girls: The Dark Story of America's Shining Women - The fact that this book is a true story is horrifying.

439228 I second Tattooist of Auschwitz
439228 I quite enjoyed this book! I wasn’t sure if I’d get to it, but I’m glad I did. I don’t read much in the way of detective fiction but I was engaged through the whole story. I would definitely read more. Strike and Robin make a good team.

439228 Alrighty, here are my recommendations for November.

The Bear and the Nightingale - This is the first book in a trilogy (only the first 2 books are out). I just love books with an awesome female MC.

Between the World and Me - I listened to this one and it's read by the author. I recommend this one on audio. I was mesmerized.

The Song of Achilles I adore this author. I am sad that she only has two books out. The prose is just beautiful and I love Greek myths.

V for Vendetta - the GN that spawned one of my favorite movies.

Also, I see that you read a lot of children's books and so do I because I am a kindergarten teacher :) So I will give you one recommendation for a picture book too. My kinders love the Knuffle Bunny books - there are 3. Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale (and p.s. you find out in book 2 that it is pronounced kuh-nuffle bunny).

439228 I have been rediscovering King in the past couple years and have been pleasantly surprised. I read a lot of King in high school and then picked up The Dark Tower series in my late 30s and loved it so I have been reading more of his books l am looking forward to reading Doctor Sleep now that I've read The Shining.

439228 I really loved Eleanor Oliphant! The word I keep wanting to use is charming , but that doesn't quite capture it. There is too much of a dark side for charming. I love how the story about her mother develops. Great pick!

439228 Wow! I loved this GN! I started it right before bed last night and it totally messed with my dream world! I thought the art was amazing. I enjoyed the twists. And it was a solid horror story!
I can't wait to read vol. 2 - whenever it comes out.

439228 I’m listening to it. I really like the narrator.

439228 I have been meaning to read this for years! I'm glad that this gave me the push to finally do it. I really enjoyed it. The mini-series follows the book more closely than the Jack Nicholson movie does. Now I want to watch both again!

I just read this in September - it is fantastic!
