The link has been fixed! :)
I had problems with hyperlinks yesterday. I'm on the app right now so I'm unable to fix it. The book is Earth Abides.
This was originally slated for my last read of 2014, however when I described it to my daughter, she wanted to read it as well. Imagine my surprise, after making an off handed comment about being concerned that I've lost my skill to read out loud (since I don't sub for Elementary school that often), when my daughter asked if I could read the story to her as practice!! :)

MrsJoseph wrote: "I am standing still and HiMS is killing it. Killing it."IKR?
Okay..I've used "IKR" more in the last week than I did in the entirety of 2014!! I think I'm regressing. I'm not old enough to start regressing yet.
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Book number three!?! The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester. Four stars. I will have to read Minority Report at some point to compare."Are you participating in Flight of Fantasy's Catching Up with the Cardassians Challenge, because Minority Report was one of their 2014 picks and would therefore count towards it, giving you a reason to read it now. :)
Congratulations, btw on 3 books by the 3rd day of 2015! Thats awesome (and I'm jealous!!)
Thank you!So your write-ins would put:
The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy @ 16, Dealing with Dragons @ 6 and Gardens of the Moon @ 4, solidifying the spots they're in now. :)
Since Garden's and Dust now have a defined 6th and 7th spot, I may see if I can pull another three from the poll in order to have my first 10 reads.
I'm not sure yet though. For one, I usually don't do very well with predetermined reading lists, and two the 2nd Wrede book is up for a vote over on FoF for February and I'll most likely want to read it if it wins.
I'll see how I feel once I finish The Martian.
Edit: Just reminding myself of the order:
1. The Martian
2. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (At least Book #1 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
3. Ancillary Justice
4. Dealing with Dragons
5. The Iron King
The next set would be:
6. Gardens of the Moon
7. Dust
8. The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making
Spacechik wrote: "Missed the poll by THAT MUCH!! Good luck."Heh if you want to make a late writ in suggestion just let me know; and Thank You! :)
MrsJoseph wrote: "Good choices! Umm, if you read the entire Hitchhiker series, don't read the final final book. Stop with the restaurant at the end of the universe, IIRC.
"
You can make a last minute write in suggestion as well Mrs. J. You know I always appreciate your input! :) Thank you too, btw.
As for Hitchhikers...I think you are the second, third or maybe even fourth person to make that suggestion. lol
The Restaurant at the End of the Universe is book #2.
Mostly Harmless is book # 5 and the original ending.
And Another Thing... is book #6, the "new" ending written by another author, that is apparently terrible and to be avoided at all possible cost! :)
No worries! Message received!!
So.. Thanks to the help of friends and strangers my first 5 reads of 2015 will be as follows:1. The Martian
2. The Ultimate Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (At least Book #1 - The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)
3. Ancillary Justice
4. Dealing with Dragons
5. The Iron King
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "And we have our first victim.Sanaaq: An Inuit Novel. First Canadian challenge book down. Really good. Four stars."
Congratulations! I believe you may be the first one in the MRBC family to have finished a book this year! :)
A little over half hour left before the poll officially closes, and I just realized that I had the wrong book tied for 5th this whole time..lol Its time to get my eyes checked again!!
Other than that, only one other book made a slight move in the polls, but nothing has budged the front runner.
Awesome!! I wish you the absolute best and much success in 2015!!!Oh yea and First-ish! (Now that you've stated your actual goals! :D
Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Awesome. Exactly what I was aiming for. I even found my dice in an old box in the garage today."Homeinmyshoes wrote: "And now I'm pleasantly drunk reading by the fireplace. The end of the year is just an awesome time."
LOL
Nine and a half hours left, and there has been yet another shift in the poll! I can't believe how excited I am watching this! Rediculous! LOL
[See above post for current standings or please participate in the poll]
I really should be reading right now, but I'm both too tired and too wired at the same time. (Strange how that happens.)
