42178 Wait!?! The last book!?!
Man, I don’t know if I could have done that.
You must have been more than done with the whole thing.

42178 I've decided to walk away from the Jellyfish Princess series. I'm just not enjoying it. I find myself getting frustrated instead.

^^THIS!^^

**Cringe** LOL

Exactly! That makes perfect sense!

Oh, and my daughter corrected me. She doesn't hate Dub per se. She finds Dub annoying if she has already seen it in Sub - especially when the Sub and Dub don't match, their mouth movements are off, and/or the original and Dub voices are very different from each other.

42178 When I initially responded, I could not think of the word "subtitles" to save my life!

I keep subtitles / CC on for everything I watch, but if I have to rely on them due to a language barrier, I end up reading instead of watching (which defeats the purpose).

My daughter doesn't always want to watch anime with me because she HATES dub! LOL

42178 I find I have been having a more difficult time concentrating on when I have to rely on closed captioning.
So, I do not watch many foreign language shows anymore.
And while Dub is okay for anime, it drives me nuts on live action shows.

I breezed through the first 4 or 5 series and then fizzled out. I think I got tired of their romantic issues getting in the way. Like, marry each other already, damn!
The crime-solving was fun to watch, though. I especially like that we got to "meet" Tesla, H. G. Wells, and other historical figures.

42178 Oh! I think I remember seeing a thing for that when it came out.
I had intended to check It out but then I forgot about it.

Are you able to give a synopsis without spoilers?

42178 *Hoping I'm not kicking a dead horse here *

I mentioned in my reading thread that I have been on a British TV kick and wanted to give an update:

-Midsomer Murders - I am now on season 16 - I love this show!!

-Death in Paradise - Season 10 - I Love the show, but the newest DCI is not as fun as the previous ones. And the detective in training annoys the bejesus out of me!

-Shetland - Season 2 - I Will resume when I have caught up on MM & DiP; I like the characters.

-Vera - Season 1 - Will resume when I have caught up on MM & DiP; I'm either going to love her to hate her - I don't think there can be a middle ground.

-Wallander - Season 1 - Will resume, but most likely after Shetland and/or Vera. Seems VERY serious.

-New Tricks - Season 1 - On the Fence; It's amusing but also kind of boring.

-Spooks - Season 4 (I think) - Abandonded! The second team is "prettier," but I don't care about them like I did the original set.

42178 Wishing you recovery from all of the aches and pains soon.
Congratulations on completing the first read of the year.

Thank you! :D

Christa wrote: I think you should be fine on having three months in a post. Most of my cover posts contain the entire year, and I've had some other really long posts in some past years, and I never ran into any issues.

Awesome!

42178 A few thoughts:

1. January has always been a good reading month for me, but this has had to have been the best month I've had in years!

2. Knowing that I would be reading many short stories, I set an additional goal of 5,000+ pages for the year. I just hit 2,000 pages this morning! However, my average over the last nine years only comes to about 6,200 pages (give or take), so I think I'll leave that goal where it is.

3. Does anyone know just how long our individual posts can be?
Each of my reserved posts is meant to hold three months' worth of reading. I wasn't expecting to have 18 in January alone.
I wonder if I need to move January and February to my original post and then change the others to have two months each.

That story sounds awful! No wonder you can't forget it.
I will keep to "short" atrocities, thank you very much! LOL

I completed the last of that set this morning. Quite eye-opening!

The next collection, Bloodlands, contains more true crime but of a gruesome nature. I may wait until February before starting that series, but I haven't decided yet.

And to think, before this year, I rarely read any true crime stories at all. In fact, I avoided it.

42178 Aww, sorry it sucked, hon, but at least you can now move to something you can enjoy.

42178 Excellent! :)

42178 I just started the stories of The Marshall Project Southside Collection.

This group of stories may take a lot out of me. I once read somewhere that America is lucky that black people want justice, not revenge. Stories like Payback bring those thoughts to the forefront.
As both a person of color and a woman, I have experienced a lot of foolishness. However, I have been fortunate (so far) that my life has rarely been in danger because of it.
I have never thought of myself as a vengeful person; I am quick to review all sides. I will give the benefit of the doubt when due.
But forgiveness and forgetfulness do not come as quickly.
