I enjoyed your review. I haven’t got a lot of experience with McCullers, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far. I don’t know if your trouble in getting books is closed library related, but I too am having trouble sourcing planned books. My library is still closed, and I don’t know when they will reopen. It’s a double edge sword. My opinion, but since they are government funded they feel secure, so they feel comfortable erring on the side of utmost safety. The problem for the future is bad business is going to result is less tax revenue. Libraries are going to be on the chopping block if incoming revenues don’t meet budget needs. My library is in a rural area and could easily be closed if state funds start getting short.
Sorry, I guess I when off on an unnecessary rant.

Welcome to the group Amy.

Kathleen, I just started Mr. Ripley last night. It will be my eighth read for my decade challenge. It's to early to tell how good it is, but I've heard good reports

Hello Ben, welcome!

I've got I, Q, U, X, & Y, A-Z Challenges are the hardest, and I agree they require a lot of hunting.. I've got a book and author selected for I, but no clue on the rest.

I’m sold on another one, great review! I actually picked up a used copy of this last January, but since a fair portion of my year was already planned. And this seems like a book that might be complex and slow. I set it on the shelf for reading some time in the future, perhaps next year.

Just did a quick check on the validity of finishing this year. Counting A-Z letters needed and all other unfinished challenge slots, I need to read 18 more books. That might not sound like much, but it is almost 30% of an average year for me, Fingers crossed

Sara, I read David Copperfield last February and March. This is one I would like to reread, assuming I live long enough, give me 35 more years and I’ll squeeze it in. Checking my timeline, I spent 38 days with it. I purposely went slowly and I do think it helped me enjoy it more. What would have been cool is to have followed a chapter by chapter discussion, I envy you that. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I have completed challenges #4, #6-89 read to date, and #7. I am advancing on several others and treading water on a few. All in all, I think I have a shot at finishing by years end.

Sara, I think you are doing great. By the way, you have also completed the short stories challenge. So cheer up there is lots of time left. I’m glad Woodlanders is going to be good, I do so wish I could read faster.

I agree with the other comments, you are doing fine. There is still plenty of time left in the year. I noticed that one of your challenges is the decade of the 50’s. I too, am doing the 50’s and have noticed several other 50’s decade challenges. What I found interesting is the lack of overlap in book titles in my challenge and others. That decade must have published a ton of books.
Good luck, and don’t sweat the small things like book challenges.

Welcome Richard, glad you are with us.

I read Country of the Blind last month and just reread 2BR02B today, both are excellent.

Welcome, Jesus

17/25 and no bingo, got to be a record.

Congrats!

Congrats, and I agree with you on Les Miserables, great but long. Along with other reading I think it took me six months, well worth the time.

Welcome Sam
