35559 I’ve not heard of them Vikki (but I’m so out of date with music!!) I’m playing them on my Amazon music app now. Can totally imagine that being a great concert!

35559 Good morning all

So lovely to see you all - some new faces and some old friends!

I’m from Sydney, Australia where I run my own consulting business and I have two kids who are just this week turning 8 and 11.
I used to read a lot but these days it is more audio in-between other things and my kindle if I happen to be commuting into the city. Since COVID I don’t do that as much - most of our clients now prefer remote support. I did take an office space in 2021 as I got sick of working from home but if I go there I drive as it isn’t too far (and has free EV charging) or I ride my bicycle so only audiobooks for that commute!!
I read everything other than horror and I don’t typically read straight out romance. Like Lisa I enjoy the hunt for a book in challenges, though and have read some interesting ones over the years!!
Our team band was my choice (mod powers 😂) and I thought I’d go with a rock band with a Eurovision tie as that is my second great love of music haha. Growing up I loved the 80s/90s long hair rock like Poison, GNR, etc. my first ever concert was Alice Cooper!
My last concert was a while ago as it is hard with kids! Probably about 6 years ago and was Serj Tankian and possibly the best one I saw was when pregnant with my first child and it was Lenny Kravitz supported by The Cranberries (🥲) and Wolfmother. It was incredible!!

Oh and my guilty pleasure is Alone by Heart 🥰😊

35559 I finished my final book - 12/12 done for the year ! That’s the first time in a while I’ve completed this challenge!! I still have two books from 2013, though so I will try to get them done also

Ship of Magic (Liveship Traders, #1) by Robin Hobb was my twelfth book which I read for the weighty time challenge. I really enjoyed it which of course brings its own issue as I now need to start the next book in the series haha

35559 Yep you just made it Judy - nice work!

35559 Finished!

Overall I really enjoyed this. Great world building, love the idea of the liveships and the characters were well put together. My only issue, is as above, in my own frustration with the role of womem but I also accept this was written at a time that doing otherwise may not have been commercially viable.

As for the ending (view spoiler)

MY MONTHLY RECOMMENDATION (and why):
Wifedom Mrs. Orwell's Invisible Life by Anna Funder
Gave a new perspective on Orwell and I learnt quite a bit about him and also his wife, Eileen, and it was great to reflect on the societal changes we have experienced since they were married

🤭 love it.
I remember being at a local shopping centre about 20 years ago and there were people everywhere and some unknown called Deltora Goodrem from Neighbours was playing a concert in the middle of the centre 🤣

35559 Cat - yes all very valid points. I am probably unfairly expecting a female author to have broken out of the trope - but at the time it just quite simply may not have sold books 🤷‍♀️
I am enjoying the book, it is just one of those things that really bothers me in fantasy where we should be able to make the world how we like and not how it is

35559 Chapter 19

Things are getting interesting! I'm still trying to picture the Vivacia and how she interacts with people seeing that she is a ship figurehead but also aware of everything within the ship. So interesting the development between her and Wintrow.

Getting close to catching up to the schedule now!! :o
