35559 DQs Ch 40-End

31) What did you think of the ending? Will you be reading book 2?
I did not see the end coming. Yes I will read book two.

32) What did you think of the big reveal? How do you think he survived?
I was actually surprised about Ace. I can see why Nova kept reminding herself of what happened to Ace. I thought that it was a bit strange to hold that much vengeance in her heart against the Renegades throughout the book. But I understand it more now. As he is alive, I can see that Ace's condition will fuel her need to avenge him. I can see that time has not healed her heart against what happened as he is still alive.
I have no idea how he survived. Maybe someone saved him. Maybe he saved himself somehow through his power.

33) Why do you think the Anarchists don't know Ace's secret?
Because they probably haven't thought to question it. They probably did not look for a body. With the Anarchists being quite, after the event as well, there would have been no need to question the strength and alliance of the Anarchists.

34) Do you think the Renegades have Ace's real helmet? Or just the fake just for show?
Most likely they have it a secure storage. Probably with DNA recognition needed to access it.

35) Do you think the Renegades suspect Nova? Why or why not?
No, I do not think so. I think she has covered her tracks well enough for now. I'm sure that later on, either she will slip up, someone from the Anarchists will tell or someone from the Renegades will put two and two together. She might even tell someone from the Renegades (most likely Adrian).
35559 Discussion Questions Chapter 32-39

25. Nova found on a registry that Max's ability was absorption? How do you think it is linked to his telekinetic ability, and how dangerous it could be?
Max had used his absorption power to attain the telekinetic ability. Although, I don't think he would 'used' his power. If he could 'use' it, he would be able to control it and not have to be locked up.

26. How do you think Max stole Ace Anarchy's power? Maybe he was present when he died. Do you think it is linked to his real parents, and who are they?
Max would have had to been close to Ace to absorb his power. I have no idea about Max's real parents.

27. It was quite obvious that Nova and Adrian will get involved romantically at some point, did you see it coming also ? And how do you think it will evolve ?
Yes, I saw it coming from the start. I think it will. I think they will get together at the end of the series.

28. Ace Anarchy’s helmet is not destroyed, do you think it can still be used, and to what purpose ? Maybe Max can use it to join Adrian and Nova ? Do you think it can control his absorption ability ?
I would say it can still be used. It reminded me of Magneto's helmet in X-Men, where it is used to amplify their powers. I do not think the helmet can be used to control Max's power.

29. If Nova lost her powers, do you think she’d still be a prodigy ? How well does she fits in the renegade teams ? I feel she is really in between with her desires to stay with the Anarchists or go forever with the renegades ?
I do think they'd keep her. She's proven she's strong and smart. I think the Renegades would have a sense of responsibility of Nova if her powers were gone.
I think she's been tempted to give into the Renegades. But something would remind her of why she hates the Renegades.

30. What do you think of a world without prodigies versus a world with superpowers ? Do you think it is necessarily better to have superpower ?
I would say that it would be useful to have a special ability. But there will be someone who exploits that ability in some way for their own personal gain, and perhaps at whatever cost.
35559 Discussion questions: Chapters 24-31

18. Why do you think Ingrid changed the plan?
Perhaps she is hellbent on revenge. I don't think we actually know what the Anarchists went through in the Age of Anarchists. I hope we get to know about them. It might help explain why Ingrid did what she did. I agree with @Devann that she is short sighted about this as well.

19. Nova is learning and experiencing that the Renegades are not quite what she was told or led to believe. Do you think in the end she will betray the Renegades?
Yes.

20. Will the Mirror Walker come back to "out" Nova?
I would think so.

21. I 'm undecided about which side I am rooting for. Anyone else feel this way? Do you think Meyer deliberately did this? Which side are you rooting for; Renegades or Anarchists?
Yeah I am not a wholehearted fan of either side. I do feel kind of sorry that the Anarchists have so few members in comparison to the Renegades. I think Nova will do her own thing. She'll figure out what the world needs.

22. What is your favorite superpower that we have read about so far and why?
I would say either Sketch's or the the Librarian. Sketch because I think it would be great to be able to give yourself and whoever what they want/need. I would if it would work with money. I think there is a danger to this too. A danger to hoarding, being gluttonous and probably having your power exploited via authorities (if they find out about your power).
The Librarian though - I would have done so well in high school and university. Tests and exams would have been a breeze. But, it would be great to use knowledge gained form books to help others.

23. What do you think will happen to Winston?
I have no idea. I've been wondering about that. Nova has not tried to check on him or know anything about what might happen to him. Will he be lock up? Will Max be used against Winston? I don't know. I hope he will be okay though.

24. Any thoughts on how this story is going to end?
I have no idea right now. It's a but too early to tell. I hope that Nova and Adrian will overcome their differences and figure out something good.
I do hope that Nova does not kill Adrian's dads. That would definitely drive a wedge between them.
35559 Discussion questions for Chapters 15 - 23:

13. What do you think is going on with Max? His special talent must be something lethal for him to be isolated like that. What do you think the Renegades want his blood for? Are they developing a weapon or are they trying to find something to help him?
I had no idea what was going on with Max. I accidentally read on. I still don't really know why they want his blood. I'm assuming it is to study his power and how they can use it as a weapon, probably.

14. Did you like Nova's first day working for the Renegades? Did you like the description of their headquarters? What about her interaction with the other Renegades?
I did like her first day even though I tend to zone out with long descriptions. I can't help it.

15. I liked the Origin stories they told each other. I thought prodigies were born with their powers, but it seems that is not always the case. What do you think of that? Did you like their stories? Why wouldn't Nova tell them what happened to her family?
From what I've seen in the X-Men, Marvel and DC movies, I'm not surprised that some people get their powers later in life and aren't born with it. I'm assuming Nova didn't want to tell her story as it could giver her away as being Nightmare in the future somehow.

16. How do you think Nova's first assignment is going? What was Detonators plan going in like that? What do you think is going to happen now?
It could have gone much better. I'm not sure why Marissa wrote Detonator as she did in that chapter. I'm not sure what she was trying to achieve. There's going to be some issues between Nova and Ingrid as they try to get what they want. Ingrid probably thinks Nova is soft and not strong enough to do what is necessary to be an anarchist in her eyes.

17. While browsing the internet a little I came across the Renegades website where you can take a quiz to find out your superpower. Here is the link find your superpower.
My superpower is INVISIBILITY: You love spending time by yourself catching up on your favorite TV shows.

What's yours? Which side did you choose?

"HEALING: You care about everyone around you and want to help in any way that you can." I chose Villains.

35559 Thank you!
35559 Renegades DQs Ch 8-15

8. Ace told Nova that the Renegades did not protect her family and allowed them to be killed. Do you think there may be more to the story?
For sure.

9. Nova scoffs at the Renegades and wants revenge. Do you think anything can change her mind given why she hates the Renegades so much?
Possibly. I'm sure that it will be Sketch that will influence her to understand the Renegades a bit more.

10. Phobia has never been seen without a costume, and they don’t know his real name. Any guesses on who he might be? Will this become important later in the book?
Someone from her past maybe. I'm not too sure if he will be important later. We haven't heard anything about where the Renegades are keeping Phobia and what they will do with him. Nova could break out Phobia so she can complete a mission/task in the future...

11. What do you think will happen once Sentinel and Nightmare figure out their true identities? Do you think they might be able to work together eventually?
There will be anger, disbelief, accusations, mistrust, hurt... Then they'll work together.

12. What do you think about the world that Meyer has created? Do you find it well developed? Is it living up to your expectations?
I find it bleak. Everyone could be doing better in the novel but I haven't seen much evidence of hardship yet of other people. I don't think we've been introduced to a normal human yet. I'm sure they bear the most hardship in the novel but we haven't been shown or told much yet.

I agree with Devann about other countries being aware but not providing aid.

I agree with Christina too. That there is not enough of showing of how bad the world is.

The characters seem great. I think I have a grasp on who the Anarchists are and what they do. Not yet for the Renegades. I would like to see more of the world they live in. I sort of want Sketch and Nova and the team to go out and see the world for what it is, and to have that impact what they think about and what really matters.

Just saying, I'm super glad Marissa wrote a character list at the start. Otherwise I think we would all be struggling still.
35559 Questions Chapters 1-7 pgs 5 - 105

1. Why did you choose to read this book? Have you read anything else by Marissa Meyer? If so what do you think of her work? Do you have a favorite book by her?
I chose to read this book because I had rad the Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. I really did like the series and don't think I have a favourite.

2. In the prologue the setting is pretty bleak before the Renegades come on the scene. The normal people were told to stay inside where it was safe while the Renegades fixed everything. It sounds like with the Anarchists there was no control and maybe with the Renegades there could be too much control. What do you think? Which is worse, no control over the people or too much control over the people?
I think it depends who you're asking. If you're a leader, too much control would benefit them. If you're being led, it might feel like you lack freedom. If you're a leader and there is no control, a lot of effort would have to go in getting the public to trust you and support you, and to build the necessary networks with others. If you're a part of the public, no control would allow you to do as you please. However, with no structures and systems set up, you would struggle to get the basic necessities of life (food, clothes, shelter, water, hygiene, medicine...).

3. Do you have a favorite character yet?
I would have to say Nova so far.

4. If you could have a super power what would it be? And what would you choose for a super hero name?
I've been thinking about this for years and I can't decide. Invisibility, ability to touch objects and know their pasts, elasticity, world peace... I don't know. I know I definitely want to have martial art skills.

5. We learn the significance of Nightmare's quote, "One cannot be brave who has no fear." Do you agree with this quote? Where do you think it ultimately comes from?
I do agree with it. I think it has something to do with Adrian and Nova's past and family.

6. In the story the Anarchists want no rules, and this was not good. The Renegades made rules for themselves, but Sketch (Sentinel) seems to think that this is bad. Sketch seems prepared to break the rules. Any ideas where this might lead?
He will rebel against the Renegades. Not sure to what extent. Nova will be involved.

7. Are you enjoying the story so far?
I am. The start was a bit hard to get into. I was confused with who was "good" and who is "good" now.
