I'd say it works Teri. We could use a hand holding jewels/fruit/flowers/etc. I'll have a look and see if I can find a match.

I was glad as well but then I though that (view spoiler)

Mods - Can we still please get Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo as an informal buddy read for July 6th? I think it got missed last time

I know! I didn't expect that at all. I knew she was doing something fishy under her dad's house. But, not THAT!

Oh! I've read two chapters for To Kill a Kingdom and put the book on hold for some reason. I can start whenever you want!

What I've been doing is commenting my thoughts into the discussion and replying to other's thoughts as well. People usually comment on my thoughts, as well. This way I will be sure that there's definitely a discussion going on and that I'm included

As long as the mods see you participating in the discussion in the B.O.M./B.R., they will count it.

They won't be fine with you saying "I liked it" and leaving it at that :P

35559 Amanda is right but...

Here is what Sonia said in the mods group:

Q: The books read for this challenge can only be used for Quidditch and not for classes and spells as well?

A: Just for Quidditch. And the page book points. UNLESS chain is broken and since books can't be used for Quidditch...

I hope you two understand what's meant by the chain being broken - the chasers chain, I presume? I'll have to wrap my head around Quidditch sometime next week. But you two are a beater and a keep so I don't think it applies to you both
35559 I finished. I couldn't study as my back was sore, so I was reading on my bed.

I'll try not to say to much so I don't give anything away.

I think this was a good read. Entertaining and mysterious and now I'm tempted to watch the TV series.

35559 Okay, I've adjusted the planning spreadsheet up to here. Thanks guys! It's looking better.

If a spell was not completed in the planning spreadsheet, it wasn't put into the official one accordingly - hence some inconsistencies that you all pointed out.

Amanda - your points from message 348 I'll keep working on

35559 @ Mods, could we please get Crooked Kingdom set up as a B.R. for July 6th, pretty please?

That was hard to read for me. I can only imagine what she went through.

It's healthy that her daughter has a healthy relationship with her dad and stepmother, but seeing it from Madeline's view is hard. (view spoiler)

I can see why this was made into a TV series. From what you guys have said, I'm tempted to watch it but after exams and after I've read the book.
35559 How do you all find the humour in the book so far? I think Australians have a darker sense of humour (I know I do)

I knew it was by an Australian author but I'm so used to reading books with the American or UK's school system. So, you guys start in September. It took me a bit to get my head back into the Australian school system.

Kindergarden to grade 6 in primary school- we start the school year in early February. We have four terms. At the end of each term, we have a two week break. We finish school in December just before Christmas and then we enjoy the weather and beaches before the next school year.
Private schools may differ on the days they start school and finish school as well.

In high school, it's the same except depending on your year level, you could finish in November or December.

I hope that gives you guys some perspective (coming from an Australian)!

I see what you mean! I think I still don't know who the side characters are in the excerpts.

Thanks Christina! I just couldn't describe her in my head. I can understand more now about who she is
35559 I've read up to chapter 20.

So, at the start I was a bit iffy on the book. Now I like it. Madeline has got me to laugh out loud a few times as well as her husband. She's grown on me. She'd be an amusing friend to have. You'd either join in on her antics or shake your head and support her because you know she means well.

Jane - (view spoiler)

Celeste - (view spoiler)

Abigail - (view spoiler)

I did a bad thing. I skimmed the last two chapters because I couldn't take it anymore. I sort of know what happens. I feel bad but No Regrets!
35559 Okay I've got the book. I've read up to chapter five. I'm probably going to read this slowly so sorry if I drag you guys behind!

I wanted to read this book as I want to read more Australian authors. I haven't read any of her books previously either.

@Kaley - I didn't read the synopsis either! I probably should have.

But, so far I am liking it. We've been introduced to quite a lot of characters so it might take me a while to get used to them and figure out who is who. The way it's written and the tone of the book are different that to what I'm used to. I think I like it though.

(view spoiler)

How would you guys describe Madeline? Jane's description of 'glittery' doesn't say much to me.
Jun 01, 2018 04:33AM

35559 There has to be a dark element to it.
I think we’ll have to stick to dementors, vampires, demons, shifters...
We thought Aliens would count but it was ruled out
