35559 Discussion Questions - PART TWO - Day 3 & 4

1.Mark found the bracelet that Nel was wearing in Helen’s desk. Did Helen have something to do with Nel’s death or at least knows what happened?

I'd say she did have something to do with it.

2. Lena is angry that the officers are not asking the correct questions. Why isn’t she willing to tell them what they need to know? Why does Lena refuse to betray Katie? What is Josh and Lena hiding? Is it fair for Lena to force Josh keeping the secret?

I think she's a strong minded woman. Probably my favourite so far. She's keeping a promise to Katie and won't betray it as they were best friends. I wasn't sure what they were hiding as I couldn't figure out who they were talking to and why they were important. I probably should have read this.
No, it's not fair to force Josh to keep a secret but it also depends on the secret and the consequences.

3. I am curious about Patrick. It seems there’s more to him than just an old man with lapses of memory. He tells Helen that he never moved because he has work to do. What work does is that?

Omg who is Patrick?! I don't remember haha

4. So, we find out that Patrick’s wife was Nicki’s sister. I am curious of the secrets that she knows, especially since it seems like she does have a real gift with ghosts. It seems no one takes her seriously. Will the officers listen/believe her?

Probably not. No one listens to Psychics or those with abilities to see things they can't.

5. Jules is dealing with issues of her past now that she is home. Is that skewing her views when she saw Robbie at Nel’s funeral? Also, with finding the letter LS on the mirror, do you think it is a ghost or Lena messing with Jules?

I think her issues with her sister are probably influence how she thinks and interacts.

35559 That's fine Nicole. You've done well with filling in characters!

Of course there's no pressure to read more than you can.

If the challenge was extended, I'm sure we could finish most or all of the characters. But, I think I need a break from all this reading!

I've been holding off putting books for a character in the official spreadsheet unless there's 1 or 2 more books to be read.

I was planning on dedicating my books for the last two weeks of August to filling in any missing letters in characters and then for Tasks

Talia, Amanda, Karishma and myself are actively involved in Quidditch and the Maze so our books will be dedicated to those two first (I think) until they've both ended

I'll post an update on here with what needs to be read and what for when I get a chance

I've managed to get a DQ section in August's Book of the month for Everland (Everland, #1) by Wendy Spinale . It starts on the 16th and ends August 31st, so come and join if you can get a copy of the book and are interested.
35559 I have a hard copy at home. I'll post the page numbers when I get home from work today!

35559 They definitely did give us a lot to read!

Quidditch starts in less than 24 hours. Hopefully, you all can come cheer our team on when it starts!

The Maze is still going on. We have gone through some twists and turns but we are doing quite well. Come have a look and see how we’re going.

Apologies for being absent the past few days. Work and uni have been grabbing my attention a bit too much. After next Thursday, I should be more available again
35559 Discussion Questions - PART ONE - Day 1 & 2

1. Assuming most of you read The Girl on the Train or at least heard about it, what did you expect going into Into The Water? Have your expectations been met so far?

I haven't read The Girl on the Train. I didn't expect much to be honest. So far it's okay. I've been listening to the audiobook version and it's a bit confusing.

2. When Jules was first told about Nel, she was relieved for a moment, because it was no one she 'cared about'. Then she was angry. What to you think happened between the sisters that drove them apart so badly that Jules doesn't even properly know her niece? How has this introduction formed your first opinion of Jules?

I had no idea what had cause the separation. I was still trying to figure out who was who and what was going on
I find it weird that Jules sections are her talking to Nell. She seemed okay though

3. Katie's sudden death understandably was very hard on her family. Her mum took pills upon pills to numb the pain, but "after a while she came to grasp that the horror of rediscovering her daughter's absence, over and over again, was not worth the hours of oblivion." What are your thoughts on this quote? And where do you think Louise vanishes to in the middle of the night?

Pills obviously aren't a great way to deal with grief. Glad she realised that. I think she probably just goes for a walk, but maybe it turned into something bad that one night

4. Into The Water is told from quite a lot of different perspectives. Do you think this adds to the story, or does it make things more complicated? Does it affect your reading flow?

I can understand why there are so many character perpectives. I think I'd be okay if I was reading the book, but as I'm listening to it, It's confusing. It took me a while to understand who Jules and Louise were. I got them confused. The police officer has a female voice but it sounded like they were trying to be masculine but they were actually a female. Very confusing.
I think it's too much.

5. Nickie Sage claims to be a psychic and sees or at least feels things that others don't. Why do you think has the author, Paula Hawkins, included this character? Do you think she actually is important to the story, or could it be told without Nickie? Do you personally believe in the occult like tarot readings and seances?

Not too sure. Probably just to fill in the missing gaps that the alive people wouldn't know. Right now no, I don't think she's important. I haven't have a reading or participated in a seances so I can't say really.

6. Nel was working on a book on the Drowning Pool before she passed away. Do you get her obsession with the river, and is this the only reason so many people from Beckford seem to have disliked her? Would you personally choose to read a book like hers?

No, I don't understand her obsession with the river. Bodies of water freak me out sometimes. I think people disliked her based on her actions and personality. I don't think I'd pick up a book she wrote. I'd read it in this book though

7. Finally, it's time for theories. It seems to be very likely that Katie's and Nel's deaths are connected in one way or another. What do you think happened, who are your prime suspects?

I don't actually think they're connected - meaning they died by different hands. I don't have a prime suspect yet!

35559 Thanks guys!

Jodi - I forgot that Odysseus was in Circe. I put it in for the O in Nymphadora, which is now finished
Aug 03, 2018 09:34PM

35559 Teri - Yes, tagged. When you finish a book, you mark it as 'read', then maybe 'young adult', and 'series', etc. We can use a book if it's bee tagged as 'relax' 6 times and 'calm' 4 times

We're not finding words in the text
Aug 03, 2018 07:14AM

35559 Zee - I'd say Out of Sight would be easier. We need a few Y's for characters

Jackie - I'd say that's a hand in a pocket!

Brooklyn - Task 1 or 3 we should go for. I've had trouble finding snake on a cover for a previous challenge
Aug 03, 2018 01:32AM

35559 Sorry for the late response team!

Brooklyn
Character books do not count for Triwizard.

Karishma
Brooklyn is right - Maze books cannot be used for other tasks.
I've added The Forgotten Beasts of Eld into Myrtle

@ Talia and Brooklyn
Thank you for getting the tasks organised!

Book 1, 2 and 4 we will focus on. We need to complete three tasks to get points. I've highlighted the tasks in light purple.
So you can plan for other tasks and books, but focus on the selected books and tasks first.

**For Read a book tagged at least 10 times as “relax” or “calm”, Shannon said in the mods chat:

Variations that have similar meanings would work. Pleasure. Leisure. Comfort. Etc. We aren’t being overly particular with tasks this Tower.

Here’s a place to try - https://www.goodreads.com/genres/relax

We can use 'wishlist' for 'wish'

Hope this helps!

I had a look Talia - looks good. I added in my planned books too. I highlighted the first book for us to try and complete

I'm not sure what you mean in message 686 Karishma.
But thank you for the Maze update!

35559 That sounds good! It's early in the season which is awesome. And good seats too!

I didn't like it either. I probably would have chosen tickets quicker if I could see which seats were available and how much they cost.

That's commitment! I guess I'm lucky I live in Melbourne and just get public transport there

35559 Omg Lisa - that is a huge queue! I was 6,000 something. I went into the waiting list early

It took me like 40 minutes to get in (not too bad) and then about 1hr 40 minutes to decide which tickets! I decided on better seats (Row C in the stalls near the stage) but on a later date than relatively okay seat on a closer date.

All the weekend plays for Part 1 and 2 from January until June were taken!

When are you going Lisa?

Thanks Christina! I'm now in the virtual waiting room. I have one hour to wait before I can buy tickets!

Hopefully you can!

35559 Super! :D

Let us know if anything is wrong with the spreadsheet. I noticed some formula errors in the classes that had to be addressed
