Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry ( 36h 47min) better not listen to lee horsley version - in some cases is a standalone, in other a first or third book in a series 🤷
Journey to the dusty little Texas town of Lonesome Dove and meet an unforgettable assortment of heroes and outlaws, whores and ladies, Indians and settlers. Richly authentic, beautifully written, always dramatic, Lonesome Dove is a book to make us laugh, weep, dream, and remember.
#2

Ship of Magic by Robin Hobb (34h 20min) - first book in a trilogy
Bingtown is a hub of exotic trade and home to a merchant nobility famed for its liveships—rare vessels carved from wizardwood, which ripens magically into sentient awareness. Now the fortunes of one of Bingtown’s oldest families rest on the newly awakened liveship Vivacia.
For Althea Vestrit, the ship is her rightful legacy. For Althea’s young nephew, wrenched from his religious studies and forced to serve aboard the ship, the Vivacia is a life sentence. But the fate of the ship—and the Vestrits—may ultimately lie in the hands of an outsider: the ruthless buccaneer captain Kennit, who plans to seize power over the Pirate Isles by capturing a liveship and bending it to his will.
#3

Middlemarch by George Eliot (32h 23min)
A passionate young woman's search for a rewarding and meaningful life unfolds in Middlemarch, an English town taking its first steps toward modernization. From tradesmen to gentry, the provincial community's residents form a microcosm of political and social change during the 1830s. The shifting perspectives ― including those of idealistic Dorothea Brooke, ambitious Dr. Lydgate, prodigal Fred Vincy, and faithful Mary Garth ― provide a timeless array of observations on human nature, drawn with subtlety, depth, and humor.

I wish I would be that organized with my reading. I'm all over the place.

So here is a first batch of 5 books before I forget everything about them.
#1

The Amber Spyglass -Philip Pullman
★★★★★
Loved it. The whole series. I thought this is going to be one of those middle-grade series that run just to young for me, but boy did it surprised me in the most beautiful way. Goes on the all time favourite books shelf without a doubt and I am looking to get myself a copy of all three and rereading them in the future.
I added "series to finish" this year and so far this is the only series I finished. I really need a kick in my ass.
#2

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland / Through the Looking-Glass - Lewis Carroll
★★★
Somehow I managed not to read this as a child, although I think everybody knows a least what the story is about. I got a copy of it with my e-reader so I decided it is time to delve in. Now I did in the end listen to it on audio, which was really good, but I was confused half of the time. So I decided to reread it next year becuase we got a nifty new translation this year and see if I'll have a better experience if I read it.
#3

Talking as Fast as I Can: From Gilmore Girls to Gilmore Girls - Lauren Graham
★★★
Now I am a fan of Gilmore Girls (not all season though). Got this one ages ago and I refused to read it because it was supposed to spoil the movie. I still haven't watched the movie and I don't think I ever will to be honest. But back to the book. It is an autobiography - short but sweet - about Lauren and her career as an actress. And it really shows how luck and conections do matter and not everyone with the talent succeeds. She tells how she got into acting, the acting school, the reality of finding a job in this profession in theatre and on screen. And yes, there is a good chunk dedicated to the filming of Gilmore Girls. She does say it feels to her like a blur and in such a state it also translates on paper, very rushed and not in to much detail as I would like it. But nevertheless a charming book for fans of Lauren or GG.
#4

Carmilla - J. Sheridan Le Fanu
★★★★
Laura lives an isolated life with her father in a castle surrounded with forest when one day a beautiful and mysterious young lady named Carmilla ends up at their door. They readily welcome her in so she would recover from what its ailing her. But is she really sick or is there something else that they don't know. A delicious atmospheric gothic tale of a vampire. Quite different, very female centered, homoerotic and eerie novella. I was pleasantly surprised. I have to read more from him.
#5

Carrie -Stephen King
★★
There is so much pop culture references regarding this book or the movie, so I got intrigued enough to get a copy. Carrie is a 16 year old girl who is consistently mocked and bullied at school. When she develops telekinetic powers she goes off the rails and madness ensues. What can I say, the premise sounds good, but to be honest this is the worst King book I have read. The sappy voice on the audiobook didn't help in making it better. A hard pass if you are contemplating on reading it.

Oh boy, I'm mentally challenged🙃

Vicious, vindicating, and visceral at once, Never Have I Ever balances compulsively readable humor with the good, transformative sort of devastation. This is a truly powerful, propulsive collection, exploring the makings and reshapings of myth, and the myriad ways we might save each other. Each character is vividly drawn, be it an exhausted magical girl wondering if she and her friends will ever be done slaying monsters, a servant in love with her charge, or the disbelieving new roommate of a vaguely discontented manananggal. Her stories tread somewhere between familiar and uncanny, interrogating human connection and monstrosity, and all unapologetically, beautifully Filipino. Each story with its own specific atmosphere, each its own sort of spirit, each sure to haunt the reader in its own uncanny shape. Here, magic makes mirrors of us, and we won’t always like what we see. Yap writes with an expert hand as she moves the reader through the looming horror and magic of what it is to be alive.
