35559 I haven’t read reviews. I usually do stay away from them if it’s a book I will read no matter what. Too many opinions confuse me! I liked The Nightingale so willing to read more by the author. The story just sounds very interesting.

Let me know what you thought of the book you mentioned. That one looks like classic Hannah. I think she is tackling slightly heavier topics now.

Starting in 3 weeks or so is fine!
35559 This should be good! Since you are borrowing from the library, just let me know when you get the book. We can start then. I used a credit for the audio.

35559 Great! I am flexible. I can start the 12th or later. Depending on your schedule.
35559 I can see why, Loriidae!

This is a first time read for me. Really enjoying so far. Charles and Anna are still figuring out their relationship. But I am enjoying their playfulness! Interesting storyline with fae and vampires! I only wish Bran was in the book more. I guess I will have to wait...

35559 Since The Great Alone did not win the March BOM poll, anyone want to buddy read it? I was rooting for it!
35559 12. Is Artemis a place you would want to visit as a tourist? Or live as a resident?

Interesting you ask that. I saw on the news yesterday that Elon Musk tried to send his car to Mars. Eventually he is hoping we can colonize Mars and the moon. So it may be a reality one day! I would probably only want to visit. Earth is my home!

13. Weir loves to add in nerdy scientific detail. Some people love it, and others... well not so much. What are your thoughts?

I think I actually understood most of it. Just don’t quiz me! LOL

14. Some people have criticized this book, saying he wrote it more with a film adaptation in mind, rather than as a novel. Did you feel that way?

Yes. In my review I said it was a high octane Sci-Fi thriller. It probably would be perfect for the big screen.

15. Did you like the ending? Was it a "page turner" for you?

The ending was exciting. But I did feel like I wanted more. The administrator taking away Jazz’s money to keep her “hungry” and motivated to do her job was just really mean. I know this isn’t supposed to be a series. But wonder if the story has truly ended...

16. Would you recommend this book to others? Why/why not?

Yes, I would recommend it! For all my minor complaints, I did enjoy it!

I guess that means you don't have that!
Mine is paperback.

I haven’t seen that edition. It’s different in the U.S.. Plus, I have the Kindle edition. The problem must be just in that edition.

This is a really good novella that I didn’t know existed! I know about having a book list a mile long! The shows on my DVR are just piling up. As I try to keep up with challenges and books I just HAVE to read. LOL
35559 I’ll be starting this soon. I’m looking forward to finding out more about the pack.
35559 Interesting reading about the differences between Mercy and A & O. Glad they have a different focus. I SO agree that Briggs can write!

LOL

I know! The ending was so suspenseful it was killing me! LOL I want to know more about Bran now. I am so invested in this pack!
35559 Loriidae wrote: "Chapter Six of my reread. Listening this time. Loving Holter Graham's narration.."

I read this on kindle the first time. Borrowed the audio this time. I agree the narrator is great! Makes it even better!
35559 Karen ⊰✿ wrote: "For me it is a different type face, which I understand to show they are messages. But then it goes back and forth between bold or not. That is odd. Are you reading an ebook or physical copy? Interested to see if others have the same issue.

I put book 1, Moon Called, in my wishlist at the library. I’ll read it after I get caught up with Alpha & Omega!

Not sure anyone else is reading the book now or not. But I read another 5 chapters. Will be starting chapter 11 tomorrow. Anna and Charles make a good couple. But I still shake my head (view spoiler) I did like how Anna was trying to help Charles deal with his issues. (view spoiler) Chapter 9 and 10 were exciting. The mystery (view spoiler) I’m glad I am getting caught up on this series! I forgot how good it is.
35559 7. Is it just my copy, or does everyone's edition have the messages between Kelvin and Jazz in different font styles? I wonder if it means anything?

Yes, the messages are in more of a bold type. I just thought it was to distinguish these messages from the rest of the book. Not sure if it means more.

8. For those that have read The Martian, is Jazz reminding you of Mark Watney? I feel like Weir has written the same character personality. I understand there is a different gender, ethnicity and job, but the actual core character seems very similar!

I saw the movie, The Martian, but did not read the book. I am listening to the audio so I knew from the beginning Jazz was female. They probably do share similar personality traits, though, like humor, sarcasm, stubbornness, and a bit of a badass.

9. Artemis only has 2000 residents. How did Jazz think she would go unnoticed? would you have taken on the challenge for a million slugs?

A million slugs would be tempting! :) And for Jazz, it would have taken her a long time to earn that amount. Maybe never.

But, yes, in a community with so few people, it would be hard to hide! But then again, Jazz’s recklessness does make for a more exciting book!

10. Oh. Interesting twist with the Administrator. Did you see it coming?

No. But I am not surprised. Those in charge usually do have their own agendas. And don’t mind putting others in jeopardy for their own gain.

11. Thoughts or hopes for how this will all end?

I won’t speculate too much. But I am rooting for Jazz and Trond’s daughter. I hope they win the war with Sanchez Aluminum.
35559 Kathy wrote: "I think they show backstory (a little) for Jazz, but more so, they show one person (Kelvin) who works hard for everything (his low spot in the chess club, providing for his family, etc) and how he is thankful for everything, vs. Jazz who has the smarts to do so much more, wasting her opportunities, estranged from her father, no close friends.) "

Interesting! I agree Jazz and Kelvin are so different in some ways. Yet they have corresponded for a long time. And have become good friends.
35559 I hope to be ready for book 4 by the 23rd. Glad you enjoyed the novella. You make a good point. Already having affection for Anna and Charles may have made this prequel better.
35559 I haven’t read the Mercy Thompson books. But I may have to! I also like the interaction between Anna and Charles. I agree he is a quieter alpha. To me a better or stronger alpha actually. I think that is why I like him so much. I haven’t read the later books. But I assume their relationship grows stronger. It is heartbreaking for me how fragile Anna is right now!
35559 Read the first 5 chapters today. I’m glad I am rereading. Forgot about a few things (view spoiler) I do like Charles. He is good for Anna. I find the “wolf” mentality interesting too(view spoiler) Weekend will be hectic, but will read next five chapters on Monday!
35559 Laura wrote: ".I downloaded my copy last night. I 'll be back tonight to check your spoiler and add my comments:-)"

Great! Will you be reading the first 5 books in February? I have read 2 books previously. But will reread them since it was so long ago. Didn’t know there was a novella to read before book 1. It does help to start with this novella!
