This book was a doozie! I felt like I was getting whiplash after a while with all the stories everyone told.

Weight of Lies Ch 32-40

(view spoiler)[ what a crazy scene with Meg and Doro's Father. Who was Billy trying to protect her from? Doro or Frances? After hearing the stories that Doro had to endure because of the book, that would change a person.

I think I am getting whiplash with all the back and forth in this book! LOL First Meg is suspicious of Doro and then back to her Mother. Glad this will be figured out soon! (hide spoiler)]

Weight of Lies Ch 41-49

(view spoiler)[ Crazy! Doro is Meg's Mother. Makes sense why Meg felt connected to Doro.

The ending of the book was so over the top! Doro and Peter killed Kimmy. Billy killed his daughter. This was barely a 3 star read for me. Meg really wasn't very likable! (hide spoiler)]

The book description says the book is atmospheric. But I don't get atmospheric at all! The mystery is getting better now, though.

Weight of Lies Ch 21-31

(view spoiler)[Things are getting more suspicious. What are Doro, Koa and Esther hiding?

Frances was so hilariously dramatic when she showed up at the island.

According to Frances, Doro did kill Kmmy. And someone had overheard. More lies? Susan's theory number 4 that Frances killed Kimmy must have hit too close to home and that is why they shut down Susan's website? I'm not sure what to believe right now. (hide spoiler)]

Thanks, Ladies for your impressions. But after reading your spoiler, Brooke, the narrator may be actually doing a good job. LOL Because I found Meg irritating and bratty too. The first 10 chapters I skimmed because not much happens.

Weight of Lies Ch 10-20

The book is more interesting now that Meg is on the island. (view spoiler)[ I found it interesting how Meg's mother lied about working at the hotel. There will likely be more lies to uncover.

I am enjoying the interactions between Meg and Doro and her hired help. It's like Meg is finally finding out what it's like to have a real family. Her relationship with her mother is terrible!

Surprised about the lead poisoning. I'm sure there has to be more to this? (hide spoiler)]

I'm fine with discussing the new book here. I do have a question. I started the book today. I am listening to the audio. I started skimming after a while because the main character, Meg, is so annoying, very snarky. The narrator may be mostly to blame. I was wondering if those reading this on kindle are also picking this up? I may switch to kindle if that will be better.

It's been more than 10 days. I had another buddy read scheduled here but had to request a thread for it on another group.

Romina - Yes, I thought the book actually gave some good advice and I enjoyed the statistics on marriage. Made me think about my marriage and doing some of the things The Pact mandated. The book just took things way too far! LOL I think partners should want to do these things. Not be told to do it. Loses the specialness if mandated.

Pact Ch 71-80

(view spoiler)[Wow. I guess I was wrong about no physical torture. I really felt Jake's dilemma over lying in order to be free.

Pact Ch 81-90

(view spoiler)[I knew as soon as Jake noticed the new app on his phone that it was a tracking device. How dumb he did not know this until they are running from The Pact.

Well, I did not expect Alice to cheat with Eric. Jake kept worrying about it, but I thought Alice was more committed than he realized. She went through so much for her marriage! (hide spoiler)]


Pact Ch 91-101

(view spoiler)[I cheered at Jake's comments that threats and fear cannot really ensure a successful marriage.

All an experiment by Joanne and Neil! What a twist I did not see!

I really enjoyed the ending, very satisfying and felt so right. Jake and Alice finally free! (hide spoiler)]

It's funny, Laura and Romina, we are all feeling the same. What can you say about this except crazy. LOL

Pact Ch 41-50

(view spoiler)[Creative solution to explaining the collar. Interesting how much Alice is accepting of the treatment by The Pact.

I did not understand the story about Alice's brother and how that relates to her not giving up on things. It seemed to me her brother was exhibiting some mental illness.

EEEK! A weigh in and not allowed to gain more than 5% from wedding day! LOL

Really interesting conversation between Jake and Joanne. Very ominous. Children do cause stress on a marriage, but this is definitely going too far!

Pact Ch 51-60

(view spoiler)[All these rules would stress me out big time! I did laugh about Jake stocking up on gifts for Alice.

Yep, I knew there would be repercussions for Jake and Joanne. This is such a crazy story. But I am enjoying it. (hide spoiler)]

How exciting! I am obsessed with Game Of Thrones tv series but have not read all the books. I hope they arrive soon and you enjoy them!

Laura (view spoiler)[ I am also enjoying Jake's chapters and all the information given about what makes a marriage last. I tend to enjoy books in general with therapists in them. Probably because I've got a psych degree, just a bachelors, so that probably explains my interest.

I know Jake keeps worrying about Alice's commitment. But for some reason, I like Alice. I imagine her as a fun, free spirit. Nothing wrong with that. But I know The Pact won't be a good fit for someone like that! (hide spoiler)]

I am reading the book in blocks of 10 chapters. It helps me to pace myself. Hopefully, it won't be a problem for everyone when reading my spoilers!

Pact Ch 21-30

(view spoiler)[Isabel was interesting. I agree with Jake that kids today are different than when we were kids.

Interesting dilemma. Did the monitoring bracelet change Alice's behavior? Is that really a good punishment? Not sure this would lead to real change!

Pact Ch 31-40

(view spoiler)[ Jake would make a good husband. I admire the way he tries to take the blame and punishment for Alice.

Poor Alice! Being tied up like that. My first instinct would be to call the police. Don't know how Jake refrained.

Alice accepts all this craziness way too easily. I am really having trouble understanding her attitude.

Pact Ch 1-10

(view spoiler)[I enjoy the writing style of the author. It's fast paced, short chapters, and a dash of humor throughout.

Ominous beginning. Things will definitely go awry!

Maybe I missed something, but it didn't seem to me that Finnegan knew enough to recommend them for The Pact.

I laughed at the equation Jake had for gift giving at his wedding. Income of gift giver, multiplied by years known, over pi. LOL (hide spoiler)]

Pact Ch 11-20

(view spoiler)[So many rules and regulations! The intent is good. But we are only human. I don't think I could follow so many rules. And I have been married for a long time.

I did find the statistic that your financial score is one of the important factors that can determine whether you will stay married or not. I thought about it and it must be that a high financial score probably means you are stable, responsible and have enough money to live a fairly comfortable life. Money problems would definitely cause a lot of stress on a marriage.

Happy wife, happy life. That is one adage I totally agree with. LOL

I do get the irony that a therapist is having trouble with The Pact. What hope do us regular people have?

Something is going to happen with Joanne and Jake. Not sure what.

Alice and Jake better pay attention to punishments a bit more! LOL That was crazy, putting a monitoring bracelet on as punishment. (hide spoiler)]

Laura - I have also read The Girl Before. It was good. If you are interested in doing another mystery, how about The Weight of Lies ? I have that on my TBR list. I'd be fine with waiting until September if you are interested in the book.

Laura - I read I Let You Go when it first came out. I am impatient like that! LOL I don't remember everything about it. I rated it 4 stars so itt was pretty good. I do remember figuring out the twist early.

Erin - I hope you make it to the book reading! I just finished The Good Daughter. I could not wait! Good beginning. Two sisters with a traumatic past. I liked them. They were complicated and interesting. Slaughter does a good job with that!

August 16 is fine for The Marriage Pact. I've already read I Let You Go. The Evolution of Ivy Poison looks interesting. It's only .99 on kindle. I will read a sample tonight and let you know!

I've read 3 out of the 4 on your list. I have not read Darker Shade of Magic. I liked Into The Water best. And Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo not that much.

I have The Marriage Pact. I started it, but not too far in. It does look good. I'd be happy to join in! It will give me motivation to finish.
