Finished three smaller books today - 50 pts. Just didn't have the energy to deal with The Stand. It's such a physically heavy book that I really only enjoy reading it when I am at work with my nice high counter and my reading stool. :D Yes I am spoiled, thank you for asking. 400 pages left. *sigh* Great book. Reading about "superflu" makes me sneeze like crazy though. I keep telling the book "it's just allergies". Fortunately the book hasn't answered me back.

You have ask questions and they will answer it and go through if they liked the book or not. I enjoy the group. They read Fantasy with romance or urban fantasy with romance or a little sci-fi with romance. Mainly fantasy with romance. "
I absolutely love Felicia Day and Geek & Sundry. I'm pretty sure not one single one of the books they discuss would be found in my library though. :D Ah well, perhaps I'll win Lotto Max someday.
I hope to finish up a bunch of almost done books today. I'm not particularly enjoying any of them, so I keep putting them down, but today is the day.
Also I'm going to come back later with a "tell a story" question for the group again, since the last one seemed to be enjoyed. If you all don't want me doing this just say. I have a lifetime in tourism, my skin is like a rhinoceros, no worries about offending me.

To me a cat would have to be named Kenneth. :)

I think this is something in all of Nora Robert's books for me. I like the peripheral characters so much more than the main characters. And I always like the mystery better than the romance. :)
Barbie is an awesome dog. And Eli should totally get a Ken. And Ken should be a girl dog. :)

Angry!! I liked this series until the end. I was even willing to overlook the gruesome cat death. But with this ludicrous pregnancy, I am done.
I am pretty damn tired of every woman in literature secretly wanting children. Despite the fact that she called a baby a substitute for a kitten. Despite the fact that she has never exhibited any desire to have a traditional life. Despite the fact that when she was younger she dumped a "perfectly good man" and the opportunity to marry him because she didn't love him enough. Despite the fact that this baby is the result of a ridiculous one-night stand with a married man who loves his wife but cheats on her repeatedly. Despite all these things I am supposed to belive now that this accidental pregnancy is the greatest thing that has ever happened and I'm suspecting in latter books she will embrace single motherhood with devotedness and joy. Every single woman on earth wants children after all. If they can't get her pregnant somehow then an orphaned niece or nephew or some abused foster kid shows up. Arrrrrghhh!!!!
I'm just tired of it. I don't by any means hate children but I just don't understand shoehorning them into absolutely everything. Ruth's life seemed great to me. If she actually was lonely, as many people in this group seemed to think, I didn't see it. And if she is lonely, how is having a kid a good plan? How is it good or healthy? Is raising a child in a vacuum going to create a well adjusted adult?
But not my point, my point is that some people, yes even some women don't want or need kids. And I hate 180s at the end of a book. I think they are cheap storytelling.
I've been holding onto this for awhile. Phew!

Added three more books to my finished list. I really have to get a move on for The Stand. It's almost 1200 pages and I've read 70 of them.

Rachel and I just posted about our favourite genres of books to read. What about everyone else? Do we have any rabid Harry Potter fans in our ranks? I've got my nephew reading them right now and I'm wondering if the last couple are too much for a just turned 10 year old? I've read the books myself, but honestly I only liked the first one, the rest I was just reading to finish the series. His mother doesn't read much and his father, my brother, wouldn't read fantasy if his life depended on it so it is up to Auntie Al to determine the appropriateness of books the kids are reading.
Oh that's another question to get us chatting. Do you get your reading gene from your family, do you come from a family of readers? My family members are all bookworms. Growing up the only time the TV was on was for news, hockey and Sunday night's Wonderful World of Disney. My brothers and sister and I all still read and fortunately it seems like the kids are all into books too. I've never bought a "toy" present in my life - the niece and nephews and godkids all get books, art supplies, board games, sports equipment or money for university/college/life from me. They've got grandparents to buy them crap that breaks in 15 minutes. :D
Even if you don't have a finished book to post about, I wish everyone would check in occasionally and chat. I live in a very isolated and small town, it's nice to hear what the rest of the world is up to.

Someone gave me a box of silly little romance novels, so of course I have to read them before they go on the free lending shelf at camp. Quick reads at 20 pts a pop, no thinking required. It's nice to give your brain a vacation some times.

I'm still annoyed by The Crossing Places. I swung by the library tonight because I was almost out of books *gasp* and I actually held the second book in my hand for a second and put it back. Not ready to forgive you Elly Griffiths. Traitor. But I'm glad people liked my rant.

I'm not a huge fan of cozies either. Don't hate them but oftentimes they are a little too cutesy for my tastes. I prefer straight up mysteries, adventure, fantasy, good historical fiction and non-fiction. Not a huge fan of horror or true crime and I prefer my romances historical or fluffy instead of contemporary. Basically I like reading books with words. :D You?

Did you like it Rachel? Anyone else here reading it or could I rant about Ruth's "surprise" here?
❀Tea❀ wrote: "So from the start of the challenge, you will get 30 points for participating in a BOM (it was 20).
Please note participation does not mean you have to answer all the discussion questions if that is not "your thing". You just need to engage in meaningful discussion, for example, you can make comment on parts of the book you'd like to discuss and respond to others comments "
Well that's nice. I had just posted my BotM right before this decision was made, so I've adjusted my list to add 10 pts. I should finish an 800 pager today too.
Anyone read anything good lately? I've had a series of meh reads and I really need some new books. Hopefully I can get to the library tomorrow night.

I did like the mystery and would very much like to live in Bluff House. If only my ancestors had chosen whiskey as the family business instead of tourism. :D
