35559 Discussion Questions November 22

Chapters 1-4

1. Do you like the book so far? Why did you decide to read it? Is this a genre you normally read?

My library doesn't stock much fantasy or much YA so I don't read much of this genre. I'm also well past my YA years and that genre often leaves me rolling my eyes, happy that I am well past those years. :) This book I am liking so far. I admit to reading it for the TT points but I'm glad seems to be an enjoyable read as well.

2. During the parley in chapter two, Kaz tells rival gang member Geels: "A secret's not like coin. It doesn't keep its value in spending." What does Kaz mean by this? Do you agree with him?

I believe in keeping secrets, so few people do these days. I don't think coin keeps its value much any more either. So I don't agree, but not for the reason most people might have.

3. Inez seems to have led a very interesting life so far. What do you think her relationship with Kaz is? Does she have romantic feelings towards him? Is Inez someone you would trust? Is Kaz trustworthy?

I don't understand their relationship yet, but I think Inej feels more for Kaz than he does for her, a fairly common occurrence in YA. I wouldn't trust either of them.

4. If you could have a magical talent like the Grisha, what would you want your talent to be? Which category of Grisha types (listed in post 102) do you think would be most helpful to us in the real world?

I only know the ones that have been explained in this book so far and healers would probably be the most useful. I would personally go for alchemy and pay off my house with all the bedrock lying around here. :D

5. Have you read any of Leigh Bardugo's other books? If so, would you recommend reading her Grisha trilogy before reading Six of Crows?

Nope, no idea.

35559 I've decided to go all out for BotM points in December. So I'm reading
Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo right now, because I still have 2 weeks to get the points and I have
American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng Uprooted by Naomi Novik on deck after that. I might even get DQs on the last two if the lottery works in my favour. Points!!
35559 Just got ahold of this book today, but it looks interesting so I'll be back when I've actually read some of it. :D
35559 I'd like to volunteer for questions - Team Raven.

35559 I'll be starting this tonight as soon as I finish my in-progress book. :) Looking forward to it. I haven't read much Gaiman but I have liked what I have read.

35559 This world domination list has American Gods (American Gods, #1) by Neil Gaiman . Wasn't someone reading that for the BotM?

35559 NEW GOAL -- Read a book where someone desires world domination.

That's an annoying goal. Anyone read something like that recently?

Anything you read will almost certainly be used eventually for a goal - so read whatever you want to read. You never know when two guys named Tom might show up. :D

35559 The book I'll be finishing this afternoon has two characters named Tom in it. Neither is very important, but the goal only says two characters so I think it will work. :)

NEW GOAL -- Read a book where a character is a necromancer.

No necromancers listed on our goalless books page - anyone have one?

35559 I saved a book for that goal all through last GG, but we never got it and I gave up and read it last month. :)

I have to read my lowest rated book in a few days anyway, if no one else wants that one.

35559 Finished the dentist goal last night.

NEW GOAL -- Read a book with a black cover.

I don't think any of our covers are black enough to count for this one so far. Drat, should have been easy.

35559 I just had an odontologist show up in my book, they'll accept that for dentist. I should be done tonight.

Maybe one of you will have two characters with the same name in your book? Or a dentist? ;)
