i agree that this book is really good for toby's character development, it's kind of a wake up call in a lot of ways and i think it finally yanks her out of that semi-suicidal spot she was always in. before this i think she was kind of just like ...not used to being alive i guess after spending 14 years as a fish and not allowing herself to move forward, but now she realizes that she has tons of people who care about her

i agree that the author spends waaaay too much time trying to make everyone feel so 'modern'. usually i'm not that bothered by 'historical accuracies' like that in books because i'm not a huge historical fiction fan so i'm not like a stickler for things like that but this book just goes too far in a really weird way.

i also really liked how carmilla was portrayed though. i read it earlier this year for the first time and i liked how the author handled that whole thing.

up to the end of chapter 25 now and IT'S ABOUT FRIGGIN TIME. well, not everything has been revealed about toby's past but i've been waiting for this since the first book lol

yeah it kills me how everyone keeps blaming toby because she didn't save them or whatever and i'm like mmmm how about blaming the actual asshole who did the thing rather than the person who tried and failed to save them???

i'm about to start chapter 21 now and hope to get through chapter 25 by the end of the day

May: yeah she's full fae because she's a fetch. i think it's gone into more about where exactly fetches come from in the future sometime but basically she's a full fae and she has like shapeshifted i guess into october's form permanently so she looks like a changeling but isn't. i like how it seems to be kind of like she has all the same memories but maybe they're a bit more faded [seems like she forgets things often] which i guess would work since all the memories were 'implanted'

Tybalt: agree that it's nice that at the beginning he seemed to be kind of 'standard asshole love interest' but that instead of her just getting with him immediately and having him treat her like crap he is actually kind of growing as a person. i like that seanan can kind of write little romantic things into the sides of the story but not have them take over the entire thing.

i will definitely check some of those out. this was my first group challenge and i really liked it because it was easy to just read what i was already planning on reading and figuring out which slots it could go in but some challenges seem waaaay too specific to me and i don't want to just spend a ton of time finding a certain book to fill some obscure slot lol my tbr is waaay too long for that

no this is really the only active challenge group i'm in. what does ammp stand for?

i know, i'm like 'oh good finally a break' but then i'm also like 'hmmm i wonder what some other good team challenges are' lol

haha yeah this book is like ...i mean i like it obviously since i gave it 5 stars but also she literally could have solved the mystery in like 5 minutes if everyone wasn't being so shady and lying about everything lol

i read chapters 1-12 today and for a book i have no memory of there certainly is a lot going on lol i forgot that (view spoiler)[the queen giving toby goldengreen and oleander being back and also everyone being sick (hide spoiler)] was all in the same book!

may and jazz (view spoiler)[i love may and jazz! and am glad we're finally getting some lgbt rep in the series. it definitely picks up after this point bc seanan basically said that she realized that in her head almost everyone in faerie was bi but on paper they all looked straight so she started trying to fix that (hide spoiler)]

i was thinking about starting this tonight but i think i want a night off after tower teams so i'll probably start tomorrow lol
