ok i finished. gotta say this is definitely my least favorite of her books so far because i just feel like it didn't realy go anywhere and didn't really have much of a point except to be as fucked up as possible. it kind of felt like just the first half of gone girl, like it wasn't really a complete thought i guess? i think it would have been better if it was laid out more like gone girl and (view spoiler)but overall i just ...don't buy it i guess. (view spoiler) also i'm not sure if me already knowing the ending helped or hurt. i think it might have actually helped bc if i hadn't known i would just be like 'wtf is going on' buuut ....still

characters are camille preaker, adora, amma, richard, john keane, natalie, kelsey ...uh, others lol. letters are A C G F J K N P R and S
@Karen circe could possibly fit book 5 task 5 "Read a book with a seer/fortune teller character" because i remember there was some kind of like ...prophecy she was trying to avoid or something i think? we could put it in that slot as a maybe because i don't exactly remember it that clearly and then you could decide if it fits after you've read it
ok here's my august tbr shelf. i think i have most of the YA books marked as such since i know there was a YA square or whatever so maybe that will help with planning if anyone wants to look at it

ok i was trying to go through and think of things for most of the tasks but i lost steam about halfway through lol anyway i think the first thing we need to do is establish how many people are still rereading the harry potter books because obviously we could use a lot of those in these slots. i'm done with all of them so unfortunately i can't help therealso what on earth does MPG mean? i'm feeling really dumb rn
also also i think i am gonna make a shelf of what i'm planning on reading this month so that other people can look at it and maybe plan out those reading chains / squares or whatever. would be nice if we could all do that maybe
anyway i tried to bold the ones i that i can do for sure but others are more just suggestions for other people to pick up
book 1 task 1: can you ask if a/an/the counts towards the 5 word title thing? because if they do then i can use tales of the gryphon clerks but if not then we'd have to find something else.
book 2 task 2: what is mpg music? i guess if i have to ask then i probably don't have something that fills it but just curious lol
book 1 task 4: i've already read all of them but i really like the niki slobodian series and every book has the word devil in the title so if they sound good to someone else then that might be good. also i have them all on kindle so i might be able to lend them? i've never done that before but if someone knows how it works. for the s book i am doing a br of sandman slim so i could use that.
book 2 task 1: i think we read a few iron books back in DADA so maybe we could have a different team member read the same book? also if someone still hasn't read PoA then that would count as a prison break one i should think, and also a bunch of death eaters break out in HBP as well i think
book 2 task 4: again we could use several different HP books for the party slot if people are still working on them. also i am going to be reading mort which is the 1st book in the death series of discworld so ...i don't know if that counts as death in the title? i mean mort is death in french and also death is the series name ...i don't know if you can maybe ask about that somehow.
book 2 task 5: the obvious choice would be to use OotP if someone still hasn't read it.
book 3 task 4: i read Timekeeper earlier this year and really enjoyed it so that can be used for time and clock on the cover if someone else wants to read it
book 3 task 5: again, could use an hp book [maybe GoF] for the wand thing. also if mods decide mort counts as death then could be used for this instead
book 4 task 2: The Alchemists of Loom series is really good and has dragons in it, 2nd book also has dragon in the title, but again i've already read them. also could use GoF for dragon in the book, or DH.
book 4 task 3: i think there's a cinder br going on now and that has a single shoe on the cover, i read it a few months ago so i can't do it but someone else could
book 4 task 4: again could use GoF for mermaids. also treasure island would be a good choice for the treasure book i think if someone wants to read that
book 5 task 2: i'm reading the 2nd october daye book so you can put that down for faeries.
boy i am losing steam trying to think of things for all these lol
book 6 task 5: i'm reading white cat so you can put that down for white in the title
book 7 task 1: i think there was a book everyone was reading awhile ago called the seven deaths of ...evelyn ...something? anyway, could work although i'm not interested
book 7 task 2: rereading madhouse by rob thurman and the main characters are brothers so we can use that

read up through chapter 13 today so i'll finish it tomorrow. gotta say i didn't think it could get even MORE messed up re: camille's family dynamics but d a m n lol. although honestly i just don't know what the POINT of all this is, i mean i'm 80% of the way through and it barely even seems like it's going anyplace. i've got a few more thoughts but i'll wait till i'm done to say anything more

i'm through chapter 10 now. gotta say i am definitely enjoying this way less than gone girl or dark places, but boy is it making me feel like an incredibly well adjusted person with a totally normal childhood and wildly healthy family relationships lmao god, everyone is just so horrible? i think i shouldn't have read two books by her in one month

@Christina, well she's 13 so technically a teenager but also kind of young still. and i think she said something when camille first saw her about like playing up the little girl image at home because that's what her mom wants from her or whateveri read up through chapter 7 today still not really sure how i feel about the whole thing. i mean even for a gillian flynn book everyone is just ...sooooo unlikable. and like i'm not surprised camille is the way she is because her mom is just awful but i hate how she like ...judges people for things but then basically turns around and does the same things herself i guess.
i wonder how many books we will need to complete the tri-wizard tournament, we might not end up getting all the characters spelled out if it's a lot

started today and read chapters 1-3 and realized that i already knew who the killer was before even starting because i heard some people discussing it like SUPER casually on some thread YEARS ago. oh well, i guess this way i can pick up on all the little things i would miss if i was trying to figure it outokay start i guess but to me it seems like flynn is basically just writing the same book over and over again. i mean i guess whatever works but i can only read about small towns full of horrible people hung up on wildly outdated gender roles so many times before it just gets boring.
