Day 3: Jan 4
Chapters V Black Stone – VI Thieves Meet
Q11. Lila still intrigues me. First she gives money to the beggar boy and even go after the little rat thieves that rob the boy. But then, while running she can't help herself and steal from a man that is hurt and bleeding! What do you make of her? Are you liking/understanding her?
I like her a lot. She's got a Robin Hood thing going. Giving to a poor boy then steeling from a man who seems to be well off has thrived in literature for centuries.
Q12. So the package was a trap! But from who? Holland, The Danes siblings, the Red Royals, ... Any guesses/theory?
Holland.
Q13. What do you think about Lila and Kell interaction? The 'made up Kell' strip-tease was kind of funny, if we disregard the black eyes and the will power.
Could Lila have magic on her? Will these two characters meet again later on?
The idea of Lila having magical powers wasn't on my radar until she proved to be quite the natural. But, this stone thing could give anyone powers, even though they don't have any magical capabilities at all. They better meet again.
Q14. It was just me, or this black magic is creepy?! The shell breaking and being absorbed into the cutthroat, all the things created by the stone has a taint of black, and the final part with the drunk guy, made me think that maybe the law against carrying things between worlds was very much needed still.
Keep the black magic away!
Q15. Ideas to where the story is going?
No, and it's very refreshing.

I'm actually in the same situation for A Darker Shade of Magic I read a lot of books with no page numbers too. I end up converting the files I have to PDF or EPUB or MOBI depending on the device or format I purchase them on. In this case it is the EPUB to MOBI (Kindle), so I only know the location I'm at, not page number.
I use a bit of math to turn the weird location/page into the corresponding book page number.
Just take your current location and divide it by the total. Then multiply that by the total number of pages in the book.
example: Loc 1868 of 5059 in a book that should be 398 pages (found on the books GR page)
(1868/5059) * 398 = 146.96 ~ page 147
Once upon a time you likely learned this by finding the variable (usually x) in algebra or as Cross Multiplying.

Meg did you like Fairest? I decided to skip it as I had no desire to read about ..."
It wasn't bad. Gives a lot of backstory. Not required reading before Winter at all. Still no sympathy for Levana.

06. "Lila Bard lived by a simple rule: if a thing was worth having, it was worth taking."
We are introduced to the Shadow Thief. Do you enjoy "tomboy" heroines in literature? What's your favourite female lead in a book?
I prefer a tomboy to a damsel in distress. Probably why Jane Eyre has been my favorite heroine since I first read the book in 2010.
07. "Looking for trouble, he’d say. You’re gonna look till you find it.
Trouble is the looker, she’d answer. It keeps looking till it finds you."
Which side are you on, on this debate?
I think you are looking for trouble when you create it. If you are one who breaks rules, you do so consciously. Getting yourself in risky situations means putting yourself into the position to get into trouble. All based on choices.
08. "Our throne is not something you’re born to. It’s not held by blood. But taken by it."
The Dane siblings and Holland seem to keep a cruel balance among them. Can you identify any clear leader among them? Will this unholy trinity last? What might keep them from going for each other's throat?
The power seems to be in the Dane twin's court, but I'm hoping Holland is the real puppet master here. This current balance will only last until one of them needs to seek more power or is toppled by outside forces. It's working for all of them now (or so it seems) and will remain balanced until it is torn apart by necessity. Or the twins are broken up by Holland. Maybe even someone new all together will conquer the Dane/Holland hold.
09. We are now introduced to all 3 Londons. If you could live in any of them which would you choose?
Grey London because I think I'd like to remain ignorant of such other worlds and possibilities, even if existence seems bleak.
10. Kell has the bad habit of carrying trinkets from one London to the next. Is the law against it reasonable? What are your thoughts on the package the woman gave him?
Not carrying trinkets keeps the Londons stable. This was learned the hard way by the distruction of Black London. Closing the boarders is the easiest way to keep each London confined to their own dimension and balance/peace to hold. It's kind of like wanting ti go back in time to change a horrible tragity.. The idea of introducing something to another London might feel like the right thing to do, but even the best intentions can cause a crazy chain of events that might not ultimately result in a positive outcome and make room for something even worse.

Q1. Kell has a very interesting Jacket. Have you read a story before that has items of clothing like his? If so what story does it remind you of? Just the invisibility cloak from HP. Or Joseph's technicolor dream coat.
Q2. Going between worlds, multiple Londons with names of colors to distinguish them, the year 1819. Are you able to keep track of Kell’s travels? To keep up with the world building?
So far yes, but that might change as he moves more and more. The drastic difference between each world helps.
Q3. Kell is an Antari (Blood Magic), a dying breed, one of the rare few that can do magic. Kell used his special coins and his blood to travel between worlds. Do you think he is a blood mage? Or does he have a darker kind (shade) of magic since he uses his blood? Or is it just part of Antari training?
There's training? I guess there must be. Would he have been an apprentice? I assume blood Mage means their magic is based on manipulating blood, so I think he is more. He could move the sand and the water and light the oil on fire and the bone.
Q4. How do you feel about the Collectors and the Enthusiasts?
Makes sense. How these individuals learned of parallel worlds makes me wonder.
Q5. Are you enjoying the book so far?
Yes, but ready for more informtion.

Our weather mayhem is from El Niño. Basically, the Pacific waters and atmosphere were warmer than usual this year (more like what normally happens in the Atlantic). That warmth spreads across the US, making weather more mild but bringing in extreme amounts of moisture and violent storms. Those Texas tornados are a result, as well as flooding through the central and Easter parts of the country. Lots of roads closed for high water here in Ohio.
What's cause all the extra rain in the UK?
