35559 I'd say it's a spy. She was sent in there with a purpose.

35559 This week I finished a book about Jesus, a book about magic, and another with a mostly naked man on the cover. If this combination does not prove how open I am to exploring any genre, I don't know what will.

I have an X finished but it would also work for H . I will leave it unused for now."

Maybe my X book could count as the book with Roman numerals on the cover. The little tags on the edges make it look more like a ten in Roman numerals than the X in the title.
The X by Lorena Bathey

And just noticed those are male profiles. Creepy.

35559 I assumed we needed different books for the new crossword puzzle's (A) double points slots, than those used in the double points spots in the first puzzle (B).

35559 One of the main characters in a book i read in December, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress is Luo, if the L is still needed.

We also need to make sure we have high point number books left for the double points sections.

35559 Are the books not being put into the boxes for the letter until there is a book for each letter? Or can we fill them in as we go?

35559 Yuck.
I'm doing an alphabet challenge for another group based on titles starting with every letter of the alphabet. I've only read the K book, so I can volunteer for any we might need. I'm guessing it will be the Os or Ys again.

A Darker Shade of Magic

BOM & word MAGIC in title
35559 January 6: VII: The Follower - VIII: An Arrangement

Q16: "I'd rather die on an adventure than live standing still." - Lila. This appears to be Lila's philosophy on life. What do you think of this quote/worldview? Are you similar?
It all depend on how you look at death. "For the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." I'd say that death is inevitable, and if it is another adventure, then let's not stand still.

Q17: It seems as if we know the least about Lila and her background at this point. We know more about Kell, Holland, Rhys, etc. Do you think she has a back story that will be fleshed out more? Or is she just going to stay the sole plucky sassy female character? Any theories?
Yes. She might have ended up in the story because it was some how predestined. Maybe a back story that interweaves with Kell's. Maybe smuggled to Grey London from another London Or, something more with Barren or her missing mom. There's significance to her hibernating magic.

Q18: Do you like the writing style of constantly switching point-of-view between characters between chapters?

The book is written in third person. There is no shift in POV. The narrator's POV shifts focus. Because there is a male and a female, pronouns make it easy to decipher the focus.

Q19: Holland seems very ruthless. Why do you think he did not kill Kell? Or did he intend to?
It was part of the bigger plan for the Dane's to lose Holland. Or he gave up to free himself.

Q20: Does the stone remind anyone of any other story? (The ring in Lord of the Rings immediately came to mind, and the horcruxes in Harry Potter). Do you think the stone CAN be destroyed? Will Kell be able to do it?
Not sure if it can. I don't know if the magic can just dissipate. This magic pulses, like it's alive. But the rock isn't alive. Maybe there's something disconnected to it that's driving the life within the stone. Let's hope Kell and Lila aren't destroyed with it.
