And my contribution to Dickens. Anthony Trollope, who wrote my current read Dr Thorne and is one of my favourite authors, was a very good friend of Dickens.

I discovered that from reading The Dickens Boy by Tom Keneally. Dickens sent his youngest son Plorn to Australia at the age of about 16. There was already another son in Melbourne.

35559 I'm going to finish my D book today. Should I try to find a quick read thart will fill a letter in the last word or is it not worth it with so many gaps? We don't get points for unfinished words, do we? All the books I have lined up for Rd 2 are a bit long for a quick read.

Oh, I just tried adding something in the mini but the 'Insert Link' tab isn't active. Doesn't matter because we don't know which are the hardest to find atm.

I have a few series books coming up, too. Nos 1. 3. 4. 5. 7. 12. 23.

35559 My husband gave me the new Richard Osman book for my birthday. Good choice on several counts.

John William is a fantastic composer. The orchestra I’m in did a movie themes concert in September and it was terrific fun to play his music. We did Harry Potter and Star Wars amongst other pieces.

I read Justine years ago and that was enough Sade for me.

35559 I'm going to switch my planned D book for a shorter D book. Don't think I'll manage the longer one in time. I'll read it for the next round as it's over 100 yrs old and should fit somewhere.

I have created a main shelf called "graveyard of dnf books". It takes a lot to make me leave a book unfinished, but it happens from time to time."

The worst is getting one of those in a team challenge that you have to finish.

Unruly The Ridiculous History of England's Kings and Queens by David Mitchell

It was interesting and silly and funny all at once. Thanks for the rec, Mel"

That's one of my fave reads this year. Hilariously funny in parts.

35559 I’m reading my library books first. Starting with Murder Comes to Call (Beryl and Edwina Mystery, #4) by Jessica Ellicott .

35559 I'm the same, Sophie. I'm reading Agatha Christie short stories to fill the gap. Short story antholgies are perfect for this because they're pick up and put downable.

35559 My son gave me Unruly: The Ridiculous History of England's Kings and Queens for Christmas last year. Loved it. No other standouts come to mind atm.

35559 I would have preferred oboe when I was a kid but Dad had a clarinet and a teacher was available.

35559 I have Murder Comes to Call by an E author. Also have a U book I need to read in October. We can use a book in any round after we start, can’t we? We just need to hold off finishing until the relevant round starts.

A man of taste and discernment! I'm classical only. How about you?

Thanks for fixing that Mel, I've written down the profile number.

I'm in Canberra, I'm retired and now do the things I really enjoy which are reading, writing, playing tennis and playing clarinet. I did a performance degree decades ago and now play in a community orchestra which is a lot of fun and makes me practise a lot. I also play in a wind trio which has been going for about 35 years doing weddings, parties, concerts etc

I'll read just about anything and have made a point in the last few years of reading classics I should have read but haven't. At the moment I'm rereading Temporary Kings the eleventh book in A Dance To The Music Of Time series by Anthony Powell. I love that series and reread the twelve books about every four or five years. I read a lot of crime but taking paret in challenges pushes me to read all sorts of things which is the aspect I really enjoy.

I have a historical classic lined up-- Dr Thorne by Anthony Trollope. Gives us the 100 yr old points.

35559 Hi Everyone. Great to be here. It's late and I'll read through the thread in the morning but wanted to check in.

Sophie, Mel or Karen, I discoverd that the link for my name goes to someone called Jessica. This has happened a few times before and it seems to that my author profile number causes the problem. It is fixable though but I've no idea how.

35559 I have a bunch of books to read in October/ November for other challenges but figured some will fit for this one. I do like the team challenges. I think I'll get the shortest one out of the way before we start because it's just over 100 pages.

35559 Many thanks to Captains and teammates! No doubt some of us will meet up in future teams. I read lots more than I thought. I’ll have to adjust future projected totals higher.
