35559 I wish we were too Kristin.... I don't really know anyone in Cabin 1, but I guess the whole point of group challenges is to get to know new people.

The teams are quite big which will be a nice change :D
35559 Looking forward to starting this BR, see you all on the 15th!

Yep, it's me! I just checked in. I'm flying home today so will be incommunicado for about 24 hours from later tonight but should be able to start once I get back :)

35559 So, I checked my flight details today for our flight tomorrow and found out the upgrade request we had put in to Qantas (using our points) was granted and we get to fly home Business Class! I'm so chuffed I can't stop smiling!

35559 Actually V reminded me I had two Audible credits just sitting on my account, so I got The Lies of Locke Lamora and The Husband's Secret. Of course they will now sit there for the next six months as I try to get through all my other audible books I have yet to read.

I've been struggling to get through The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer but I'm not sure why, so I have put it down for this trip and will try again later. I might need to be in a different mood or something to listen to it.

Maybe it's because it's the first day of our trip I haven't had some sort of alcoholic beverage... :D

I do love books with great world building, so that's a big tick on the positive side.

Yeah, I don't know how I will go with The Bone Season, it's been sitting on my eReader for a while now and I keep putting it off, which is why I chose it for the challenge so it would make me read it :)

I'll let you know when I'm reading the other three and see if you're available to buddy read them. I will most likely read Cruel Beauty this week as I think I can use it for Quidditch.

35559 Hmmm, if you didn't like the novella, you might not like A Hunger Like No Other or the rest. I'll be really interested to see what you think when you get around to the next book. Her world building as the series goes on though is pretty awesome, but I know there are many out here who don't like her writing style. I love it though ;). I'm actually rereading book #9 at the moment for SS.

Yeah I found that today too. I managed to complete all but one of the letters of the spell-it-out with my May books. I thought I had them all until I realised the challenge didn't include character names in the spell-it-out rules!

35559 I also absolutely love the Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole. However I don't know whether to recommend or not because it is PNR erotica. I have tried many, many of the other writers in this genre and none of them come close to the IAD series for me. In fact I read the whole 14 books of the series in about two months, I just couldn't stop.

However, the biggest issue is the first book in the series (although it is listed as the second as there is now a very good novella that has taken the #1 spot) A Hunger Like No Other is probably the worst of the lot. For some reason Kresley took the male character too far down the alpha track that he was pretty much sexually assaulting the female character, which I found off putting (sort of like Undeniable was). But once you get past that book, they get sooo much better and I still gave it three stars, so it wasn't that bad.

On the plus side for A Hunger Like No Other the audible version has a narrator who does a pretty awesome Scottish accent, so it's great to listen to.

Also Kresley's stories are incredibly intricate over time as she is telling multiple story lines that completely overlap - she will mention something in one book that won't be explained until two books later when you get another character's viewpoint of the situation. How she keeps it altogether I don't know.

Then there is the humour, as the stories progress they just get better with the humour, in such a good way.

She also does amazingly kick-ass female characters (except for in a A Hunger Like No Other unfortunately) who are often warriors in their own right and give the guys a run for their money.

I also find her erotic scenes particularly well written.

But, like I said it is PNR. I would suggest, if you were interested, you give the novella a go first to see if you like it. I really loved the novella and it sets the world up pretty well and is much more representative of the rest of the books. It's called The Warlord Wants Forever. And of course being a novella it is not overly complex.

Edit: actually V, I have thought about it and I think IAD will be way too PNR for your tastes.. There are very few humans in this whole series, it's all vampires, Lycaes, Valkyries, witches and demons, so very much PNR heavy.

35559 Have you tried any of the Night Huntress World books where they have dedicated stories for the other characters like Spade? There are a couple for Vlad as well.

35559 Yeah, I only found out about the Summer Mountaineering challenge because they posted a warning on one of the Hufflepuff threads that the deadline is tonight.

Hope you make it in time ST :)
