35559 It looks more like a cabin to me, but it depends if the mods consider a cabin a cottage I guess.

35559 If there are any worries about Sassafrass’s battle book being suitable, I will finish a book today that has a number of big battles in it.
Aug 01, 2018 05:04AM

35559 I am currently reading books for Order of the Phoenix, Task 4, sub-tasks 3 & 4, Book with a large battle and Book with a ‘rescue’ in it.

35559 Holy moly, the thread exploded while I slept and went to work.
I’ll have a look at what tasks are left and see what I can read for.

35559 Can we use books started before the Tri-Wizard Tournament started? I’ve got a book that would work for a number of tasks but I’m a couple of chapters in.
Jul 30, 2018 01:03PM

35559 I agree with Order of the Phoenix, especially Go on Trial and Department of Mysteries seem like tasks that would be fairly easy to read for.
Jul 30, 2018 02:58AM

35559 Do only books we’ve started after Tri-Wizard tournament start date count for the tasks?

Also, when does it start? I can’t see the start date anywhere.
35559 Good work Cat! I’m about 71% through and hoping to finish in the next couple of days.

Is this your first Brandon Sanderson? It’s my very first and I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoy his writing style. His characters are so compelling, I’m always disappointed when a chapter ends and the story moves on to the next POV - even though I enjoy the next POV jus as much!

35559 I only had a couple but I’ve gone back and added character names to my completion posts since we stopped adding them.

35559 I’m taking part in a buddy read for Way of Kings but don’t know if I can finish it in time. I’ll certainly try!
Jul 23, 2018 02:24AM

35559 Woohoo!! I think I’ll need that time to get through The Way of Kings, lol
Jul 20, 2018 03:43PM

35559 Today is a cooking day and tomorrow we’re taking our son to the zoo. I’m looking forward to both days :D

35559 I Hunt Killers (Jasper Dent, #1) by Barry Lyga
I Hunt Killers

Characters
J/D - Jasper Dent
B/D - Billy Dent
G/T - G. William Tanner
C - Connie
H - Howie
35559 22. Jazz made a shocking decision to go visit Billy after no contact with him. He asks G William to help him get in quickly. Why do you think Jazz finally made the decision to visit Billy? Would you trust what Billy tells you?
I guess he felt like he had run out of ideas and that Billy may know something Jazz hadn’t thought of.

23. Why do you think Billy’s request to Jazz about moving the birdbath signified? Do you believe it was a signal? Or just another way to mess with Jazz's head?
Definitely a signal, will be interesting to find out to who though

24. The Impressionist tells Jasper that he was never supposed to talk to him or see him, which leads me to believe he was taking orders from someone. Do you think Billy was telling the truth about not having contact with him? Do you have any theories of who is pulling his strings?
No idea, I think it must be a player we don’t meet until Book 2

25. The Impressionist has a pretty terrifying trophy in his finger belt! What do you think is the significance of the dual “L-O-V-E” and “F-E-A-R” tattoos?
Maybe he was also a prisoner at the same prison as Billy, or maybe even a CO there.

26. “Sure you are. You just ain’t killed no one yet.” Do you think Jazz killed his mother? Or is Billy messing with his head with the note?
I really don’t think he did, I think Billy is messing with his head.

27. Final thoughts of the book and overall rating? Are you intrigued enough to continue on with the series?
3.5 stars, I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would but probably not enough to keep going with the series
35559 I’d like to nominate for DQs too, Team Newt Scamander
35559 14. After sharing his theory and brainstorming, Jazz totally manipulated Connie and Howie to get them to go with him to look for evidence instead of calling the Sheriff. (And we've seen him manipulate a lot of people, especially women, before.) What do you think about this behavior?
I just think he’s using his skills to get what he wants. Plenty of people do that without being psychopaths so I’m not overly worried about it.

15. Jazz spends a lot of time taking care of his Grandmother, and she is awfully toxic. Why do you think he is so determined to stay with her instead of going to a foster home? Is Melissa right to decide to move him out
better the devil you know is probably his thoughts behind it. Plus, he can probably get away with a lot living with her

16. Wow the scene with Ginny was very intense. What did it make you think of with regards to Jazz - his feelings of pleasure conflicting with trying to help? Do you like him any less or more?
Yeah, I found that concerning and it made me a bit uncomfortable about his character.

17. Erickson keeps showing up and being pretty abusive? Is he a red herring or something more? (Ha I guess don't answer this if you have read this book before - unless you remember what you thought at the time.)
I totally think he’s a red herring. Otherwise it’s way too obvious.

18. How did the Impressionist know about Jazz's room (or did he?)? Do you think he is going to interact even more with Jazz now, even though it is against orders?
He seems pretty interested in Jazz so I think he will continue to make his presence known.

19. The scene with the dog and learning not to cry was really horrific. I think that interposed with the scene where he cries when talking to Connie are important. Any thoughts?
good point, I hadn’t made the association. I guess it speaks to the fact that he still feels emotion despite his Dad trying to mold him into a version of himself.

20. Speaking of Connie, what do you think about what she said to Jazz in Chapter 28?
I think she is totally frustrated and wants him to stop worrying. What she said was probably the only way she felt she could prove her point.

21. Is it right for the Sheriff to have Jazz help in the investigation?
Not necessarily, but the advocate way it is happening probably isn’t quite right, especially taking him to a crime scene like that.
35559 Jenny wrote: "OK I finished. I liked it better as I went along, but wow. Disturbing.

The thing that made me mad is probably the truest thing in the book. ..."

(view spoiler)
35559 Yeah, I’ve been wondering why he can’t really remember. I guess I’ll find out eventually.
