I definitely understand that, Kaley! It has a slow start, and I always hated how mean the Dursleys are to Harry - it made me so mad. But once those letters start coming, whoo! I was sucked in.It's been a long time since I've read the series. I'm glad to come back to it.

I'm starting this one for Team Draco. I'm listening to it on audio and I'm so happy to be on this journey again. 3 chapters in and it's like coming home.

I'll do backup DQs if needed - on Team Draco Malfoy since Jenny already signed up.Definitely in for the reading!
Alright, we just hit the "UNDER TWO HOURS" to start, everyone! Remember, you can't count books that are already started. https://www.timeanddate.com/countdown...
As your captain, I want to reduce the stress level that can happen for these challenges. The goal of the challenge is to read, read, read, and I don't want you all stressing over reading things you really hate. To that end, my philosophy is read what you want. Claim tasks if you want. If someone reads something that fits before you finish, no worries! Don't get upset - I will find a place for your book. This is a long challenge so we just need to work together and have fun.
Also, we need 191 books just to finish the spells, so there is truly something for everyone during this challenge. Some of you will read a lot some weeks, some of you a little, and that's ok. I just ask that you communicate in the thread so I can plan out our tasks, especially once we get a glimpse at the tri-wizard tournament.
Some things to keep in mind:
1) Every book we read wins us page points.
2) Then we can use it for one extra task - spells or quidditch or classes or Tri-Wizard.
3) The BOTM points and Buddy Read points are always cumulative, so they add up to those above.
So like I said, read and have fun! We can use our cunning and ambition to win, but it still needs to be a group effort, and all of your books help us.
We have a "Books Read" thread. As you finish books, please post the title there so I can be sure it gets pulled into the sheet correctly. Once I have my hands on the official spreadsheet, I'll add some special tabs for us to really plan some strategies, but we don't have them yet.
Back in a couple hours to kick us off. Go Slytherin!
Posting FormatBook (link to actual book edition, please)
Date Read
# of pages for your version. If you read the audiobook, you will use the page count for the default version on GRs. This is the first version that comes up when you look up the book.
BOM / BRs
Please post a link to your first discussion post so I can add it to the sheet.
Spells
Titles, series names, authors (first or last names), main or secondary characters (first or last names, and also nicknames). You may ignore the indefinite and definite articles (a, an, the, etc.)
For the letters X, Y and V, you can also use translators names and or audion narrator names, providing the edition you are reading allows for it.
Meaning, you'll have to read the translated version to use translator's name or listening to the audio version to use the narrator's name.
Classes
Please list how it fits / class you read it for.

Thanks, Natalie! Just making my way down the comments. It’s early here and I have conference call first thing, but I’ll be back soon to get us all sorted out.Devann, or anyone reading something Middle Grade, double-check ARbookfind first. If you can’t find it there, post details here and we can try to figure it out together. I have a link to it in the rules post. I’ll also post it in the important links list.
Need coffee! Back soon. I had a terrible bout of insomnia last night and I’m working on a couple of hours of sleep.
Great idea! I say let's focus on the vowels first, especially those tricky U's. I'm excited to see what the spreadsheets will be this time. I always get new ideas for my own from these challenges.
I need to plot out my reading - I think my first book is going to be The Aeronaut's Windlass, so we can possibly use it for one of those A's.
Sooo…if you are curious about the letter breakdown for spells, Sonia was awesome and made this:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
We need lots of everything, so I would say start with a book you want to read and we will go from there.
Devann wrote: "@michelle: how are we going to organize our spell-it-out challenges? would it be best to have some kind of spreadsheet we can all edit with the spells listed out or are you just going to fill in bo..."We will have an amazing team spreadsheet to utilize for everything. Once we see how this one is all laid out we should be able to plan it out. I will either be able to add a tab (ideally) or we can create a separate sheet if not. Hoping we have the spreadsheets soon!

For the HP reads, there will be tons of people from all teams, I'm sure! Participating and reading will be enough, but be sure to link to your posts here so we know when we can count your points.
Welcome! We are all checked in and ready for the challenge to begin. As for the buddy reads and BOTMs, my rule of thumb is at least 3 posts interacting with other people in the thread. I can't remember for sure if there is a set number for NBRC, but if I have three good interactions (not just a "me too" response) I feel like I have added to the discussion.
Hi Ashlee! I read a lot of cozy mysteries, too.Definitely going to do the HP buddy reads as well. It's been too long since I read them!
You typically will post a completion and link to your comments so we can see you actually participated, rather than dropped one comment and left. It will depend on how the spreadsheets are set up this time. But I'm typically good with posting a completion here and then we can make sure it's on your shelf properly and pulling into the spreadsheet.
Link to the Buddy Reads spreadsheet. A great way to get some points going:https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...
I'll also post in the top of the thread so you can find it if you need it.
