35559 Not sure on those potions, yet! Hoping we get the details today.

My The Count of Monte Cristo BR will get us the 900+ book. I know a few of us are doing that one.

35559 On the spreadsheet - take a look at the "classes planning" tab. I tried to pull it together so we can plan easier.

35559 The 500+ page brown book is a category for the Herbology class. I am going to read Academ's Fury either way, so no stress about that. But since it works for lots of other things if someone had another one we can have a back up.

35559 We are going to do really well as a team, I can tell already.

We are on the right track with transfiguration - the item needs to be clear on the cover, but otherwise the ideas we are tossing around will all work.

35559 Be thinking about the vowels - we really should save them for spells. Here is the vowel frequency:
A 18
D 7
E 15
I 17
O 18
U 14

And we need 3 X's. I'm not terribly worried about them, but it's something to think about.
I have XVI and Truth that we can use for 2 of them if needed.
Xibalba
The Xibalba Murders
Xoe: or Vampires, and Werewolves, and Demons, Oh My!
So...lots of X books for us.

35559 Yes, all great ideas, Devann. The teacups one especially. I like that!

We can use every book read for page points, and then apply it for one of the 4 categories:
Quidditch
Tri-Wizard
Spells
Classes

In addition to those, we also can add points if it is BOM or BR. Which means when we all read Deathly Hallows, think about the points we can rake in! Wooo!

Does anyone have a 500+ page brown book they are planning to read? I am going to read Academ's Fury (Codex Alera, #2) by Jim Butcher so we can use that, but it also will work for several other classes. If anyone else has a brown 500+ book planned, let me know.

For divination classes, we could read the A Charming Spell (Magical Cures Mystery, #4) by Tonya Kappes series.

Good ideas, Devann! I think if it happens in the books we can DEFINITELY make a case for it with the mods. They are awesome about letting people be creative!

35559 Joanne wrote: "Do you want the link to our first post in this thread Michelle?"

If you can, yes. Then I can add it to our sheet. I found a post for all of you in HP1 so we are good there.

We have to choose for each book - so if we use it for class, we can't use it for a spell. Yes, we are looking at over 300 books! Crazy, right?

35559 To help us stay on track for the BRs / BOM, be sure to link your first post so I can get it into the sheet. I can fill everything in while you chat and read, and then when you do the completion post in the other thread I can finish up the sheet.

Those BRs add major points so try to do as many as you can!

35559 Here is who I have participating in the Harry Potter & the Sorcerer's Stone BR:
Devann
Michelle
Ashlee
Jammin
Joanne

Did I miss anyone? And is anyone in another BR? I will be doing Lilac Girls for BOTM and The Count of Monte Cristo as well. Plus the other HPs.
35559 I feel the same way about Ron and the chess match. He was scared, but still brave.

35559 I think universe will work for Astronomy, Jenny. Good idea.

I think we need to keep those U's for the spell outs, though. That's a tough one to fill.

I asked for clarity on transfiguration, and we can get some ideas here, too.

If we can use animagus, then person = animal is easy.
I also asked about water = wine. LOL

35559 Let me ask in the captains group about the transfiguration. I think we have the others fairly understood.

What else can we use for DADA? Although we can probably knock it out with werewolf and vampire books, I don't want to limit us.

35559 Devann, yes, please! Knock out those ARCs if you can and if others have ARCs we can use them in other classes.

Ashlee, I am adding your link now so once you have completed the book I just need to add the date read.

35559 For Astronomy, I can read Everything and the Moon to get us started.

I do not have any ARCs right now, but I will try to track one down if no one else has them planned.

Let's talk about transfiguration. What are some ideas for this one?

And same for DADA:
Werewolf = silver
Vampire = stake / cross / holy water
Zombie = sword
Mummy = fire

35559 Announcement

(clears throat) Hello! Welcome to day 2 of TTs! Now that we have our hands on the spreadsheet, we can get a better idea of strategy. My idea is to tackle some of these classes right out of the gate. Let's try to complete as many books as we can before the tri-wizard tourney begins since we don't know what to expect for that. If you can make your book work for a class, let's do it, and if not, we can use it for a spell-out.

Looking through the classes, I think we should plan out some of the harder ones first:
Transfiguration - 14 books
Read pairs of books (cover or title) that represent the transfiguration from one object into another per Hogwarts year.
Initial object
Tranfiguration

Astronomy - 7 books
Read a book with a celestial element on the title per Hogwarts year

Defense Against the Dark Arts - 14 books
Read pairs of books that represent the Dark Art and the way of defending against it per Hogwarts year (2 books each)

Also, we need 3 ARCs. Do any of you have ARCs you are planning to read during the challenge? We should get this ready now.

35559 That's always hard, Karen Michele! Pets are such a part of our families.

We have 2 dogs and 1 cat. They are all getting up there in years (all are 10) so I feel fortunate for every day we get with them.

35559 Devann, you are so talented! That dress looks great. I have always wanted to learn to sew but haven't had the right person to show me, I guess.

I am going to go for a run and I have a massage scheduled for this afternoon - my mother's day gift. I'm working on a few books but not sure if I will finish anything up today.

Those big books will get us lots of points, Colleen! The great thing about TTs is all reading helps us, big, small, any genre! I love challenges where you can read (mostly) what strikes your mood.
