Jenny wrote: "Fine. You can have him. I am a nice person. Just ask my cats."That's very kind of you ;) And cats a really good judges of character. If they say you're okay, I believe them
lol I keep answering a tiny second too late.
Jenny wrote: "Naked Jamie!!!!!!Steven, get out your cloning machine because I am about to call DIBS!!!!!"
No Jenny !!! How dare you steal him from me ?!
Sammy wrote: "Because I will probably say something regrettable on the topic of this challenge, you will all have to forgive me if I don't say anything at all, and instead go on to the more fun topic of some rea..."I call dibs !!!! Jamie is mine !!! My name is Claire, you can't dispute my claim ;)
Jenny wrote: "I just want you to get the points since you read it. But, we will live with whatever ruling there is."*sigh* same. Even though I read it for pleasure, me participating in this challenge influenced my decision to read it then. It had the adjectives for description I was looking for for the stories, and it had a big page count that would give us points. And it took me hours to read, so I'd really like it to count for someting. Had I known they would dispute it I would have read something else and not wasted time on it.
Jenny wrote: "Honestly though, once you gave it 5 stars, I looked at the description, and it looks fun. I am a huge potter fan, so, is it worth reading? (after this challenge)?"
Yes I really liked it. It reminded me of the fanfictions I used to read as a teenager. But a good one, haha. So nostalgia might have played in my star rating. But I thought it was well written. I liked the story, and the dynamic between the main characters. It was angsty, but fun. :) Just what I needed
What really gets me mad though is that they go to such length to try and dispute something that doesn't really challenge any of the rules. I didn't read this fanfiction to try and cheat. I would have read it regardless of the challenge. Anyway this challenge was set up for us all to have fun, and to encourage us to read. That we win or lose is not what matters to me. (but of course if we win I would not be mad about it, obviously)
Judith wrote: "I’m sorry, that should of been isn’t just that it’s fan fiction. But they are saying it should be treated like a web serial, which mods ruled on earlier. But doing that pretty much eliminates all ..."
tbf, I don't really get why their web serial can't be used.... as long as it's a complete one.
Judith wrote: "The issue is directly because it’s fan fiction. Partly because it’s been taken down from the original site and therefore doesn’t exist in ebook form. Therefore it’s a serial and not allowed due to ..."I just want to point out that it's a bit unfair to discount it for the reason that it's a fanfiction, because then what about Fifty Shades of Mr Darcy: A Parody? I know it hasn't been published using the same sort of platform but still. Ultimately it is a fanfiction. They just use the word parody to describe it.
Also it's still possible to find online. How would I have been able to read it otherwise? I found it via a link on the goodreads page, in the question section. here is the link: http://dhr.avada-kedavra.net How would using that link be any different than reading a book I found in second hand, that is out of print??? Or reading an ebook you bought a long time ago that's not available for purchase anymore? It's still on goodreads.
Sorry, but I'm a bit mad they would dispute it. Especially seeing that I asked if reading fanfiction was allowed before reading it. And also, I've read fanfiction for gorup challenges, here on NBRC, before and it's never been a problem.
edit: I'm not saying anything about the page count, because honestly I don't know how to calculate the page number from the word count. To me it varies from one book to the next anyway.
rant over.... for now.
Judith wrote: "Hello Lovely Lusties,Just wanted to let you know a few things.
Mainly, the captains did some hard looking at the bingo card and moved the 4 squares we are shooting to leave blank.
Also the use..."
Oh really? Why has it been challenged? I thought fanfictions were okay???
If there's a problem about it you have to tell me now because I was planning to read 2 other for next week.
It feel so good to hear other people say they don't like Neil Gaiman. That author is so hyped. I actually felled depressed last time, when I tried reading Neverwhere, and didn't like it. I just was so disappointed by that author that everyone praises so much. But now I accept it. There's nothing I can do. He's not for me, so? That happens. I just won't force myself to read his stuff anymore.
Eldarwen wrote: "Oh, finally people who think Gaiman isn't one of the best authors ever! I am not alone! :-DTo be fair, I'm basing this on reading only one book of his but that was enough for me. Stardust was boo..."
I totally agree that the movie of Stardust is faaaar better than the book. I didn't like how the book ended either. The movie made it all more magical.
I'm in the middle of American Gods. I swear this is the last Neil Gaiman book I read. I don't know there's just something about his books that doesn't click with me. And I guess my main complaint is that the main characters are always so passive. they lack initiative. Stuff happens to them and they endure. That's it.
Sammy wrote: "reading inspiration! sorry I'm a little late, I was distracted! (and hopefully now so are you, lol)"Yummy ! These reading inspirations get better and better each week
Was there a specific reasoning behind the four prompt that were left blank? Or can they be moved around?
Elen wrote: "Okay... I need a little bit of help. Can someone find a spot in mini for
?"For the bingo?
If so I think you might be able to use it for ruby. It looks like a ruby earring to me. What do you think?
Steven wrote: "Good luck... I found it to be long, drawn out, and a massive slog LOL"I'm a hundred pages in... It's not exactly my thing. But I've learned recently that Neil Gaiman was just not for me. American Gods is the last of his books I own. After that I just plan to never read anything else by him, with the exception maybe of the Norse Mythology one because I just like mythology. But that'll be it.
Steven wrote: "✿ Claire ✿ wrote: "Yes, our team is the best! Okay, so because we need to concentrate on the bingo next week I'm going to try and finish American Gods this weekend, so we can cash..."
Oh right. *face-palm* For some reason I had in mind that the Lust mini challenge part2 only lasted 2 weeks... Well regardless, I'm going to try reading American Gods this weekend. I think I can manage.
Judith wrote: "Yes, we can put it in an adjective spot and move on of those to a consequence"Awesome !!
Elen wrote: "
- 1/2 of the car is visible... works or not?Sometimes in challenges, it was allowed but sometimes when Mods want to be too strict they don't allow."
to me the car is visible enough
Yes, our team is the best! Okay, so because we need to concentrate on the bingo next week I'm going to try and finish American Gods this weekend, so we can cash in the "bad book" points. Which means that I won't be able to finish Ancillary Justice this week and that leaves an open spot (consequence) in our second story.
Also do you think there's a way we could fit in American Gods somewhere in one of our stories?
