35559 Discussion Questions 04 December - 05 December Chapters 4 - 10

6. The relationship between Gwen and Sam seems to be developing nicely. Can she trust him?

7. I get a lot of "The Following" vibes.
Have you seen this TV series with Kevin Bacon? It's about a serial killer who has a lot of influence outside prison and followers who kill for him and stalk his family. I know it's not the same yet, but I can't shake the feeling that it's going to turn out like this. What do you think?
Don't know the series (we are sooooo behind on US TV here in Australia). I had that feeling too though.

8. How did you feel about Gwen going to see Melvin in prison? I think that she went too far by having him beat up and she shouldn't have given in to him.
I thought it unwise. It's going to count against her.

9. Gwen told Sam everything about her past. Should she have done that? I think there is more to him and he is there for a reason. What do you think? Is he there for revenge? Does he have anything to do with the dead girls in the lake?
He seemed like a nice enough guy. I wasn't sure. I didn't think he was behind the dead girls

10. Gwen's cover has been blown and everything is falling apart around her. Do you think she can get the police to stand up for her and help her or is the prejudice against her so deep they can't? Do you think Javi or will help her? Who do you think leaked the information on the internet? Is it Melvin or is someone from the police force responsible?
I don't know, I am eager to find out

11. Gwen keeps blaming herself for what is happening, why would she do that?
You can write a whole psych paper on that question. I think I will summarise as, it was here house, he was cruel to her, she had suspicions and didn't act on them, then it was too late.

12. Time to make some predictions. What do you think is going to happen in the last part of the book? Will things between Gwen and Sam get better and are they going to work together? Is there a bad apple in the police department? Who killed those girls? How much is Melvin's involvement?
I have now finished. I did believe Melvin had some great involvement
35559 Katie wrote: "This is by far my favorite Joe Hill novel; I cannot wait to see what everyone else thinks of it!"

I've had this on my TBR pile since it was published and never got to reading it. I'm super excited about starting it!
35559 Laura wrote: "Interested to see what everyone thinks of this book. I just recently read it and am impatiently waiting for book 2. Nine more days!

Very different from her Morganville series."

Netgalley has the 2nd instalment...
35559 Discussion Questions 02 & 03 December Prologue - chapter 3

1. What did you think of Gina after reading the prologue? Do you think her change of character to Gwen is believable? Can you understand the change?
I felt so bad for her. What a shock! The change is a bit extreme, but it is 4 years later when we get to chapter 1, so maybe.

2. What do you think of how her children have changed? Do you think she is doing them any favours by not taking them to therapy, which they need, just so they are not found out?
I can understand the daughter is misbehaving. I do think some therapy would have helped things a bit, but I'm biased (I'm a psychologist and family therapist hahaha)

3. What is your stance on the internet trolls she is describing? Why do you think Gwen is punishing herself reading those comments? What do you make of Absalom and his "help".
I think Gwen is blamign herself for not stopping her husband or going into the garage.

4. What would you do if you were Gwen at this point in the story? Run like hell or stay there and hope you can keep in hiding where you are. Can she trust Javi or Sam? Are the police going to find out who she is, can she trust them?
I think Javi is a good guy. I would have called in the police. Running is clearly not the answer as she'd been doing it for years by this point. I'd be so scared though

5. Have you read any books by Rachel Caine? This seems a change from what I have read from her. Do you like this book so far?
First book by this author. I'm loving it

I'm voting for the spell it out Christchurch or New Zealand."

Oh Christchurch, NZ, such a beautiful city. I've visited many times before the earthquake.
Yeah I'm going for spell it out too :). I'm currently reading Doing Harm by Kelly Parsons. So I can take either D, K or P.... No K or P in either word, so I guess D in NZ would suit me best :D
