35559 My Name Is Resolute by Nancy E. Turner by Nancy E. Turner

The year is 1729, and Resolute Talbot and her siblings are captured by pirates, taken from their family in Jamaica, and brought to the New World. Resolute and her sister are sold into slavery in colonial New England and taught the trade of spinning and weaving. When Resolute finds herself alone in Lexington, Massachusetts, she struggles to find her way in a society that is quick to judge a young woman without a family. As the seeds of rebellion against England grow, Resolute is torn between following the rules and breaking free. Resolute's talent at the loom places her at the center of an incredible web of secrecy that helped drive the American Revolution. Heart-wrenching, brilliantly written, and packed to the brim with adventure, My Name is Resolute is destined to be an instant classic.
35559 Wake of Vultures (The Shadow, #1) by Lila Bowen by Lila Bowen

A rich, dark fantasy of destiny, death, and the supernatural world hiding beneath the surface.

Nettie Lonesome lives in a land of hard people and hard ground dusted with sand. She's a half-breed who dresses like a boy, raised by folks who don't call her a slave but use her like one. She knows of nothing else. That is, until the day a stranger attacks her. When nothing, not even a sickle to the eye can stop him, Nettie stabs him through the heart with a chunk of wood, and he turns into black sand.

And just like that, Nettie can see.

But her newfound sight is a blessing and a curse. Even if she doesn't understand what's under her own skin, she can sense what everyone else is hiding -- at least physically. The world is full of evil, and now she knows the source of all the sand in the desert. Haunted by the spirits, Nettie has no choice but to set out on a quest that might lead to her true kin... if the monsters along the way don't kill her first.

35559 We are making great progress!

May I claim the Plumed Basilisks spot, I don't know if it will work but I'm finishing my book The Caller (Shadowfell, #3) by Juliet Marillier tonight and the colour shades on the cover is similar to the skin of plumed basilisks (especially if you put the plumed basilisk in the sun :)). I will put me down for this square for now, if it doesn't fit we will bank it. Or it works for 'green cover' as well.

35559 Hi Katie ! Sounds like you had fun with the family!

35559 I was thinking that too Berit, the couple of points we get for longer books are pretty slim compared to the bonus points for the coverall. It seems to me, the shorter the books the quicker we fill the Bingo cards. Or am I miscalculating?

35559 It's a shame I just finished Shadowfell. Captains, I'm currently reading Ravenflight (Shadowfell #2), I was wondering if the series title works as well for this square? I'm on the app, I will check if I can see our bingo card now in the spreadsheet

35559 Almost there! Although, according to my progress, Juliet Marillier and I are already comrades ;)

@ Karen: Just finished Shadowfell and I loved it, it's fantasy YA/historical fantasy with a lovely romance ;) Marillier has a knack for writing likeable characters and creating enchanting settings. Of course at this point I enjoy everything she writes.
I hope the book turns out to be as enjoyable to you as it was to me :)

Haha, sounds like me, I actually prefer to watch the olympics recorded than in live because of the reason you gave. Fast forward and repeat modus ftw. I tend to record the olympics from different tv stations as well (BBC2, France 2 and NOS) just to hear what our neighbours are saying, their analyse and focus are always different (and really entertaining!).

Hats off to all of you for your sportive accomplishments, ladies! Reading all your comments makes me want to work out again :) My absolute favourite is fell walking.
