Hi Claire, could you please fill in a read date on your book, it's not showing on our spreadsheet at the moment. After that is done, it can be counted towards the challenge :)
Updated through here.

So I took my disappointed self to a secondhand book shop (a really big one :D) in the middle of the busy capital and spent 2 hours perusing every shelf of their English selection. There goes my brilliant plan to only read books I already own!
Btw I finished my first book - a historical romance, not one I recommend actually, I might have enjoyed it better a year ago.
I'm now going to continue with the Kate Shugak series which I own :) And I solemnly swear

The moderators are aware of this issue, it's a glitch but we don't know why exactly. And we don't know how to fix it at the moment. Last update I have regarding this is that the Spreadsheet Whisperer will look at it later this month :)

Tomorrow my local library is holding a second hand book fair. I will go check if there's any books I would like to read (to add on top of all the other books I already own of course). And on Sunday my town hosts the Highland games which I'm planning to watch ;)
Have a nice weekend everyone!

And regarding duplicates, same here, first time I checked I didn't realize I had so much doubles on my shelf.

Huh...It is there. 5/4/17. Oddly, when I look at it on my app it doesn't show up, but when I go to..."
Kristie, I went to check your shelf and I see that you have a duplicate of this book (probably two different editions). One you rated and put as read. And the other one you added in October 2014 and is unread but you've put it on your Tower shelf. Once you've put the read one on your Tower shelf and deleted the other, your book will be registered on our spreadsheet :)
I don't know if you are aware of this but you can easily find your duplicates when you click on your books and then on the left you will see 'find duplicates'.

I'm off going to catch some z's now! Will check in tomorrow. TGIF!

We have a books read thread where you can post your finished books: BOOKS READ Thread
Also spreadsheets are available in post 2: Spreadsheets
And I concur with the rest of the team. Just read books you would like to read. I don't like it either when reading books starts to be a chore that's why I'm very picky with what I read ;)

Ignore this. Just went to check, there's already one ;)

Regarding page length, I've got a bit of everything, I'm planning to alternate. And I'm strictly going to read books I already own during this challenge. The last couple of days I took a break from reading to catch up on some series. May the Fourth is almost upon us :)

I've been a bit busy this week wrapping things up at my old job and filling out the paperwork for my new job next week. I'm very excited for both this career opportunity and tower teams to start. I'm planning to read bigger books and hope to finish some of my ongoing series during this team challenge.
Also next Monday it's Labour Day in Europe so this means a long weekend. I wish you all a nice and hopefully sunny weekend wherever you are :)

1. Have you read the introduction by the author? Do you have a favorite mythological or folklore story?
Yes, I'm always curious to know where authors get their ideas.
I've read a lot about Greek/Roman mythology for my Latin classes. My favourites would be the stories of king Midas (everything he touches turns into gold), Prometheus (the one who tricks the gods and steals fire for humanity) and Echo/Narcissus.
2. I loved the introduction to the main players in this book of stories Odin, Thor and Loki. It's almost as if he is describing a soap opera. Has the author told you anything new about them? I think I knew most of it from reading The Gospel of Loki by Joanne M. Harris and of course American Gods where Odin has a prominent role. Have you read either of these books? Have you read other books where Norse mythology playes a big part?
Not really. Same here, I've read The Gospel of Loki with the NBRC group when it was the BOM and I remember enjoying it a lot. All of it sounds familiar.
I've read the book Mythology years ago. It's a book about mythology all over the world. Norse Mythology is just a part of it, but all is in there.
3. I find it difficult to think of questions to ask, because I feel I have read all this before. I do like how the stories have been written. What do you like so far about this book? Do you have a favorite story?
I understand, most people are already familiar with norse mythology. I like that it's straightfoward and not overly descriptive.
Yes, my favourite is the one with Loki in it :) I liked the 'gods treasures' story the best as well.
4. Lets have a contest, who is your favorite among the Gods of Asgard and why? You can judge by looks, cunning and other things. And of the other beings, do you have a favorite among the giants or dwarves?
Loki because he makes it so interesting (like Neil Gaiman pointed out). Loki is most of the time the instigator and at the origin of the stories. However I was curious to find out more about Tyr, especially after he showed compassion towards Fenrir.
Fenrir is another of my favourites, I think his story is pretty sad. And Fenrir makes a good point by telling Odin that his fear from him made Fenrir turn against him.

Wow Beth, I always appreciate the effort of trying other languages. Moreover you didn't pick the easiest languages. I speak Dutch and French, I spoke French at home and went to Dutch speaking schools. Like Claire, I prefer to read books in their original language as well :)

The NBRC group hosts 3 books of the month per month (chosen by NBRC members through polls). Members may volunteer to write a set of questions for specific days (the mods always post a chapter breakdown at the beginning of the thread). Or you can just join the discussion/answer the questions. During the tower teams challenge you can earn more points by writing questions or by participating in the discussion:
*Writing a day's worth of discussion questions = 40 points
*Participating in a current BOM (participating in discussion) = 20 points
The BOM for May are in post 58. Here are some of our past BOM discussions in order to have an idea: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
However you are not required to read/participate to the BOM. Don't feel pressured if none of the books catch your interest.
I hope I could explain it a bit ;) Don't hesitate to ask questions.

Looking forward to start as well :)
