35559 I started yesterday. It's a very different style of writing than I am used to. I am enjoying it but it sometimes makes me have to think or look back.
35559 That works
35559 Laura wrote: "I have Weather by Jenny Offill, Stacey, how about you?"

I have it, and I only have it for 2 weeks, so I am ok with starting early.
35559 Chestnut Man and Big Lies in a Small Town were both excellent. Highly recommend.

The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben and Nothing to See Here by Kevin Wilson are on my to read list if you are interested some time in the future.

I was able to get the ebook for Weather, just need to figure out how to read it on my iPad. I also have a hold for the audiobook.
35559 Jenny, I was just thinking of another buddy read. As for the Hiding Place, I'd hold off as it is really dark and I find myself needing a break or at least something a bit less dark.

I'm up for any of those. Valentine is probably the only one I'm iffy about but sometimes its good to read things I wouldn't normally pick. Hurricane sounds great, but I don't think I can get it anytime soon. There are wait lists for all at the library. Weather I can get the quickest and I might be able to get the ebook really soon. I can pick up any of them on audible except Hurricane Season; they only have it in spanish.

35559 It was not what I expected and it is a bit slower than the last. I liked it a lot better than Chalk Man, though. It was still dark but at least some of the characters had some redeeming qualities. I think that is one of the things I have a hard time with with Tudor; I didn't like anyone in the Chalk Man. Without that it feels just dark with no hope at all.

Give it time (or another try), it is still slower but it did come together more at the end.
35559 Jenny, I definitely have to check that one out. Thanks!
35559 I'm finishing another book today or tomorrow then I'll get back to this as I need it for a challenge. Hope you are enjoying your other reads, I'll have to check out The Sun Down Hotel.
35559 The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben

The Boy from the Woods by Harlan Coben

In the shocking new thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Run Away, a man whose past is shrouded in mystery must find a missing teenage girl before her disappearance brings about disastrous consequences for her community . . . and the world.

The man known as Wilde is a mystery to everyone, including himself. Decades ago, he was found as a boy living feral in the woods, with no memory of his past. After the police concluded an exhaustive hunt for the child's family, which was never found, he was turned over to the foster system.

Now, thirty years later, Wilde still doesn't know where he comes from, and he's back living in the woods on the outskirts of town, content to be an outcast, comfortable only outdoors, preferably alone, and with few deep connections to other people.

When a local girl goes missing, famous TV lawyer Hester Crimstein--with whom Wilde shares a tragic connection--asks him to use his unique skills to help find her. Meanwhile, a group of ex-military security experts arrive in town, and when another teen disappears, the case's impact expands far beyond the borders of the peaceful suburb. Wilde must return to the community where he has never fit in, and where the powerful are protected even when they harbor secrets that could destroy the lives of millions . . . secrets that Wilde must uncover before it's too late.
35559 I started but I can wait and read something else until you are ready.
35559 I borrowed the audiobook, so I'm good to go as well.
35559 Well, the synopsis is interesting. Funny how different the 2 are. I need a bit of a break from Tudor but will probably be up for it by the 23rd.
35559 I just started yesterday and have a lot to go. Alysa, I love your thoughts! I do wonder what happened as they did say they all immigrated there. I also felt annoyed at the very crazy conservative misogynistic society. I'm hoping it improves but not sure I'll like it if it is just them figuring out how to take it down.
35559 Laura, overall I did. I had some really hard times with some of things the author chose to include. Everyone was severely messed up and it seemed like he went to about the darkest level you could go with so much. That said, I felt the need to keep reading and figure it out moreso than The Other People. I was able to figure out a lot about how it ended but there were still some interesting surprises. That said, I probably won't read more by him.
35559 Laura, Emerson, how are you coming with the book?

I finished today.
35559 Laura, I'm curious as why you think that (in spoiler). There are so many unknowns and I feel like there is so much being held back.
35559 I started before you two and may pop in now and then if ok. I'm listening and with the way this does chapters it is hard to say exactly where I am other than 1/2 way through. I know the answers to your questions - and some are more complicated than they seem. Right now I have so many more questions.
35559 I just finished rereading In the Woods (Dublin Murder Squad, #1) by Tana French and am listening to The Chalk Man by C.J. Tudor .
35559 I can start whenever you want.

Jenny, right now I think some of my books have given up.
