35559 Ok, I'm starting. There are at least 3 letters that work for me :)
35559 How far in are you? I just got a copy way earlier than expected and may join you.

35559 Jenny, glad you liked it. With Reese, they talked about his changing his life and there were some things that made me wonder. His original name sounded more like Terence without the n, so I almost wondered if he was hiding from an abusing family. Honestly, once I figured it out it all fell in place. Maybe I didn't pay enough attention.

I do think Stella was one of my favorite characters. Not because I agree with her or necessarily liked her but for the reasons you mention. She was so scared about being found out that she couldn't appreciate anything, even scared about having a child.

What did you think about the author making Jude and Kennedy so different? One very black and one very blonde with blue eyes?

I also felt really bad for Desiree at the end when her mother seemed to only remember Stella.

35559 Can we use places for the spell it out or just characters? The book I'm reading for the tag 'bacteria' only fits for S, even with an author, translator, and narrator. There aren't characters as it is science/nature based. At least it fits something.
35559 Ok, and don't laught at me. But it took me forever to understand Reese. Maybe if I had the book and would have seen his original name but the way the narrator pronounced it didn't hit me.

Book: The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennet
Date read: 6/14
Pages: 352

Letters: A, S, E, R
Character names: Adele, Stella, Early, Reese
Task: 118, Multiple points of view

Highly recommend this book. Off to try to find something I might like with the tag umbrella or bacteria.
35559 I finished today. Wow. I loved it.

Have to process before I say more. Stella was so interesting. I kind of get it, but not really. So sad.

35559 I'm listening to the Vanishing Half. It is so good that I'm almost half way through already.
35559 Have you started yet? I started listening to the audiobook last night and am now in Chapter 6. I wasn't sure at the start but I am really enjoying it. The characters are so complex, hurt in different ways . I love Early and I'm liking the Jude story. I saw a snippet of a chapter about Stella and am really curious.

I read her first book, The Mothers, and liked it but I find this one so much better.
35559 Looking forward to it!
35559 Your bookstore is great! I can't get it yet, I think. I usually do electronic. Wonder if it would be faster if I preordered from my local bookstore.

That's ok, I've got a few others to read.

I just requested a thread, should get it soon. I downloaded my copy and will start tonight! I am really looking forward to this one. Did you see there is a giveaway for Devolution: A Firsthand Account of the Rainier Sasquatch Massacre? Made me think about that one too. It will be out soon!

35559 Can we get a thread for The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett please? Starting today/tomorrow.

Thanks!
35559 I don't think that we did since Laura is waiting for her copy to come in.
35559 I can't get it in time and have several I'm planning on purchasing, so I'll have to pass on that one. Enjoy!

Looking forward to the Last Equation. I can also get several of the others without any wait or with little wait.

Ok, you are making it hard. My all time favorites are older, shorter than 350 or both. Here my recommendations that meet your request:

Big Lies in a Small Town. I really liked this one. Mix of modern and historical fiction as they portray a modern day young female artist who is given an opportunity to repair an old mural. The story switches between the stories of the 2 different young female artists. I did have issues with how they portrayed the North as being really great in terms of race relations, which it wasn't often. Short of that it was really interesting.

The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires. It's really more about the women than vampires, mostly. It is also a really interesting tale of how we interact and what we are able to ignore for the sake of our own comfort.

I'm still in the beginning of Children of Virtue and Vengeance which is the sequel to Children of Blood and Bone which I really enjoyed. My daughter loved both. Don't skip the first if you haven't read it.

The three I have to mention which are older are House of Leaves, 750 pages and not an easy read but weird in a very good way. Where the Mountain Meets the Moon and The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society are really great all time favorites that I have read more than once. Older and both below 300. Great if you want a faster read.
35559 Jenny if you want to read Vanishing Half before that let me know

35559 I don't usually plan ahead for reading, so still deciding on what I will start with. I've signed up for DQs for the July Adult BOM. That one is on my to read list and I've heard good things. Will read Jetsetters and Dear Martin if I can get a copy in time.

I may try to start with It Devours!.
35559 Looking forward to reading this one. I'm offering to write DQs for Team Sword of Sahara
