35559 Day 1 - prologue - Chapter 5

1. What sort of stuff do you like in your horror books? Do you like the slow pacing here?
I've not really had much experience with horror books yet so I'm not really sure what to expect. The pacing is slow, but I'm hoping it will pick up a bit soon. I guess it adds to the suspence and mystery.

2. What do you think of the sister's and their relationship with each other?
They all seem to have very different personalities that can sometimes clash, but they would always be their for each other.

3. We are getting hints about the strangeness around the Hollow girls, and at what happened to them. What are your suspicions? Would you be like Cate with her daughters, and not push at the memories overtly or dig actively?
I don't really know what happened to them, I'm not really up to date on my mystical creatures. I would be worried for them and maybe a little over protective like Cate is (I would like to think I wouldn't, but in reality I probably would).

4. The descriptions (of Grey's clothing in particular!) is very atmospheric. Are you enjoying the descriptive language used?
I enjoy desciptive language when it is necessary to the story like this has been. I've read some books that just have unnecessary desciption, like they are just trying to reach a word count or something.

35559 I just added House of Hollow to the sheet. I read the prologue and chapter 1 this morning and will aim to read quite a bit more of it today. I am on track to finish the books I have listed. I will let you know if I would be able to finish another one in a couple of days, but it would probably end up being a shorter book.

35559 Just a little update. I have fallen a little behind on Middlemarch, but I am going to read as much as I can today and then I will hopefully finsh it tomorrow or the day after. And then I will begin House of Hollow. I am determined to finish both this round. I'll see how things go this week as to whether I will finish another book this round too.

35559 I've read the first two books and the first part of book three (the version I have of book 3 are separated into two books). I had planned to read the second part of book three this year but it hasn't happened and I don't even want to try and attempt it for this challenge as they take me a long time to get through.

I watched all of the series which led me to the books as I heard there was more to some of the characters. I just hope we eventually get a proper conclusion.

35559 Well done M!

I have made some progress on Middlemarch and will try and finish it over the weekend. I also plan to join in the BOM House of Hollow which I have ready to go, but I might wait until I've finished Middlemarch until I start it.

I don't know if I will finish anymore than that this round, but we will see.

35559 It a nice feeling when you finish one of the oldest books on your TBR especially when you enjoy the book, it almost makes it worth the wait.

I have been trying to read the oldest books in my TBR for a few years. When I joined GRs in 2012 I added basically every book I had heard of which were mostly classics. A couple of years ago I had about 200 still from that year alone, but then I found the wonderful thing that is audiobooks. Now I have just over 100 left. Most of those books are on the longer side which is why I have avoided them so far.
But as longer books are better for this challenge, I'm hoping to get a few more off my list from that year. That's why you'll probably see me reading mostly classics.

35559 I got about halfway through Along for the Ride and so far I am disappointed. It's kinda boring. But it will be nice to finish as it is one of the oldest books on my TBR, however it doesn't seem like it was worth the wait.

I hope everyone else has better luck with their books.

35559 I would be happy to join in reading Don Quixote later. As 1Q84 covers all the letters apart from one this round, I might see if I can get a hold of a copy and try and get it done for this round, but I would like to tackle Middlemarch first as that is what I had planned and is also covers a lot of letters this round.

35559 I am planning on reading a longer book at least most rounds (hopefully all). I would read Jonathan Strange and/or Don Quixote (if I can find a copy of that one) with you, but probably not this round if that's okay. I already have a long book planned.

Being from the UK, I don't really know anything about your football and I dont really like British football either. I'm not really a sports person.

35559 I probably won't get much reading done the first night as not only will it be late where I am when the challenge starts but it is also my boyfriend's birthday so he'll probably want to watch stuff. The day after I hope to make some decent progress on something though.

I've had The Left-Handed Booksellers of London on my TBR list for a little while and it is on my library app so I am happy it is one of the BOMs.

35559 I've not really read much erotica, at least not any that would be long enough to count for this. So I can't really help, sorry.

I'm curious to know what people are reading before this challenge starts. I'm trying to finish Gone with the Wind but I'm only halfway through and it is a very long book. I'm going to do my best to get as close to finishing so I dont have to think about it during this challenge. I also have a couple of short books to finish, but they won't take long.
What about everyone else?

Also the copy of Middlemarch I am going to read has a carriage on so that means the first two books I am going to read have wheels on. Of course I don't want to hog all the spots so I don't mind if they are there for backup just in case. I planned to read Middlemarch more for the length than the cover anyway.

35559 The same thing has been happening to me! Maybe you are right about the gremlins! I wish they wouldn't though.

35559 I made a list but not a shelf on Goodreads. I have too many shelves as it is. I'm hoping I will get some older books off my general TBR list during this challenge. My TBR has too many books on it!

35559 Oh, I just saw on the tracking spreadsheet that the answer dates for the BOM are on there. We get a month, apart from the very last one.

Ignore me, I'll quietly move on now.

35559 As promised, I am going to list some of the books I am perhaps planning on reading.

For the wheel on the cover, I want to read Along for the Ride by Sarah Dessen . I really hope it will count as the wheels are not fully on the cover, but they are obviously bicycles wheels. I'll probably read it regardless as I've wanted to read it for a long time.

I found House of Hollow on my library app so I'll be able to join in with that BOM. Am I correct in thinking that BOM points count as long as they are completed by the end of the challenge (and answering the DQs of course)?

There are also a few classics I'm thinking of tackling during the challenge including Middlemarch (901 pages) and Crime and Punishment (671 pages).

My library app has a great range of books so I can try and help out with specific things when it comes to it!

35559 Hello all! I am Keely and this is my second time playing Wheel.
I am from the UK however I am currently in Norway and will be for at least most of this challenge if not all of it. I am planning to move to Norway permanently as my boyfriend lives there, but I need to find a job for that to happen.
Because I am away from home, I dont have access to the books I physically own, but I have various apps that I can use instead.
I also dont think I will be able to read a whole lot which is why I said I would only be able to read about 5 books a month, however as the page count it what matters most (from what I have read) the books I have planned are on the longer side.
I had a look at the books I want to read for wheels on the cover and found three that I could potentially read. One I definitely would like to read as it had been on my To Be Read list since 2012!
I will post the book later and maybe some of the others I am planning to read as I am currently on my phone as it is the middle of the night and I should be sleeping (but I'm struggling).
I will try and join in with some BOM too if I can get a hold of copies.

I'll stop there for now. I'm looking forward to playing with you all!

35559 I just reached Vol 1 part 3 (chapter 17). I forgot to read some for a couple of days, but I am making progress. Ideally I would like to finish the book before Wheel begins, but that is quickly approaching so I would be happy if I at least catch up to the schedule.
