35559 I finished my 30th book which was Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer . I enjoyed it so much I added the rest of the series to my TBR. I might read a couple of them this year though so they may not end up on next years list.

I also had a DNF. Barnaby Rudge by Charles Dickens I may need to accept that Dickens just isn't for me. I enjoy the settings and time period, but most of the books are just so long. I may end up deleting the other Dickens' books I have on my list, but not yet. I included this one in my total as I got a good chunk done before I gave up.

35559 I'm struggling with Barnaby Rudge. I'm not enjoying it. I'm going to try and read some more tomorrow, but I may have to DNF it. It's a lot of book to not enjoy.

While looking for books with black birds on, I did find another that is available to me immediately so I can still cover that task (it's a short-ish book, I could get it read in a day or two), but we may need Natasha's book for the 800+ one.

I'm glad the new top page count is 651+ going forward. I have many books on my TBR that I could use to help with those.

35559 I currently have a lot of spare time which I intend to fill with reading (mostly via audiobook while I do other things) so I can help fill in those tasks we seem to be struggling with. I will be finishing up a book either tonight or tomorrow and then I plan to tackle an 800+ book as we still have one unclaimed. I'm going to try and find one with a black bird on the cover to get 2 tasks done.
Depending on how much I actually read, I might have the 800+ page book done over the weekend. But it is more likely to be at some point during next week.

Congrats Cat! I had planned to clear all my books from 2015 this year too, but with 19 still on the list, I'm not sure it will happen.

I did just go through some more of my list though and delete another 11. 8 were from 2014 and all of them were books I don't own or have access to and don't care enough to buy them.

35559 I've ended up doing that thing I sometimes do where I just keep starting new books without finishing any. I now have 12 books that I am currently "reading". All but one have been on my TBR longer than a year. I intend to finish them all (or DNF if needed) by the end of the year. I know the end of the year is still a bit away yet, but some of these books are on the longer side. If I am successful, that will be another 11 books off my TBR and 3 of them are from my first year on here!

35559 I just finished my 28th book for this challenge.

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

It was the oldest book left on my TBR. In a way, I am glad I didn't read it back in 2012 as I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much. I would give the book 3.5 stars if I could. I enjoyed it, but I don't think I would read it again.

35559 With over 1000 books still on my TBR there are definitely some on there that I'm not going to enjoy, but it will take a lot of time to go through them all. For books that I own (either physically or electronically) I'm most likely going to give them a go and if I don't enjoy them in the first chapter or two/ up to around 50 pages I will delete.

I don't want to waste anymore of my time reading books I don't enjoy when there are so many books out there. The exception being if I am reading something for a team challenge, of course :p

35559 I just had a small purge of my TBR. I added a lot of classic books when I first joined Goodreads in 2012. I basically added every book I had heard of. Over the years I have been tackling the classics and more often than not, I did not enjoy them. I just went through and had a good look at all of them and deleted the ones that I did not think I would enjoy. I deleted 12 in total.

I am still behind on my goal as I do not include deleted books in my score, but I am creeping closer to that line (I hope) and at least my TBR is a little lighter. It feels good to not be so afraid to delete books that I probably won't enjoy.

35559 I can probably work on one from the end of next week, but it is unlikely I will have much time before that.

35559 I vow to catch up to that pesky line this month! Hopefully even overtake it.
Aug 02, 2023 02:23PM

35559 I am mostly going to be working on shorter books now that Tower Teams has finished. Some of the books have been clogging up my TBR for too long and with no competitive team challenge to participate in, now is the perfect time.

35559 I was going to spin the new monsters wheel, but I can't see it linked. I've posted in the Q&A so hopefully it will be found soon.

35559 I might be being blind here, but I don't see the link to the new monsters wheel.
35559 DQ Day 3 Chapters 14-20

10. So we are half way through the book. Thoughts and feelings? Loving it? Hating it? Ambivalent?

I am really enjoying this book.

11. Jeremiah gets killed pretty quickly as his signet shows. Do you agree that power can't be allowed?
It does seem like some powers could be overpowered. His seemed to be causing him a lot of pain. Certain powers not being allowed will definitely come into play more later.

11. What's the deal with Andarna? Why do you think 2 dragons have bonded with Violet?
I have read a bit further ahead so I know why already.

12. If you could choose a Signet what would it be? https://www.julesbuono.com/fourth-win...
I would like to have mending.

13. Were you surprised about Amber's betrayal? How about when Xanden completely believed Violet but Dain didn't?
I wasn't really that surprised.
35559 DQ Day 2: Chap 7- 13

6. This section starts with two scenes with each of the male love/lust interests. The comparison of them continues very clearly. Do you like Xaden or Dain better or neither?

I saw this love triangle thing coming. I liked Dain initially, but Xaden seems like he would be loyal if he wanted to.

7. Violet uses alternative methods to survive the fighting challenges. Do you think that counts as cheating or using the resources available? Do you think she is aware that she only has this information because she comes from a privileged background and her sister count sneak in it? Do you think one of the professors should have noticed after 5 rounds?
She just seems to be using the resources available. I don't think the professors really care.

8. The obstacle course is straight out of American Ninja warrior (and other similar TV shows) including ending with the giant ramp. Did you enjoy this section and how Violet figured out working with her height limitations? Have they told us how tall she is? (Though in real life, the shortest person to make it up the wall has only been 5’1” – I just Googled it).
It's good she figured it out. Thought outside the box. It would be nice to know how tall she is as her height is mentioned a lot.

9. Finally, we meet the dragons. Was it all you were hoping for? Did anyone guess the black one when it was first introduced in this section? (Also, I am not taking the fall seriously at the end of my section since we still have 2/3 of the book to go).
The black one was obviously going to be important so I had a suspicion that Violet would bond with him.

Bonus: If you could have a dragon from any book or movie, which one would you want?
Like many have said, Toothless is very cute.
