We can save it and potentially use it in a task for mini 2 later.

I will be working on my Latvia book in a bit. I'm hoping to get it done today, but if not it will be tomorrow.

I've made a slight change to the tracking sheet. I've removed the date read column so when you finish a book, you don't need to do anything to the spreadsheet. Just post your completion post here and E or I will update it when we check everything. I've made it so that the rows change colour when they are confirmed complete so it is easy to see what has been completed and what is still being worked on.
Please do not check the boxes when you have finished a book! Those are there for captains to use as an easy way of us knowing what we have checked and what needs checking.

Sana - I had to move one of your Pakistan books to another Itinerary as we are only allowed to use a country once per Itinerary. Feel free to swap them around if the one I moved to a later Itinerary is a book you will read sooner.

I used to be the same with audiobooks, but then I had a job where I could listen to my own thing when I was out back off the shop floor so I decided to give audiobooks a good try. The first one didn't go well, but now I think it was just the story I wasn't enjoying.
Now audiobooks are my main form of reading. I listen while I do my crafts. Audiobooks helped me get through some jobs too. It's weird that I associate some books with where I was or what I was doing when I listened to them. For example, I listened to The Queen's Gambit when I worked nights at a supermarket stacking shelves and I visualise the area I was working when I listened to it and what the shelves looked like XD
I usually have a Kindle book on the go as well which I try to read a bit of before bed. I don't always get very far :P
I haven't read a physical book in a while. But that's partly because I travel between the UK and Norway a lot. The other part is because I have around 700 unread Kindle books waiting to be read. And using the Kindle app on my phone or Ipad is so much lighter than traveling with several paper books.

I think one of my hard country books is about 150 pages which is definitely not ideal, but I'll make up for it with a longer book afterwards

I have a lot of longer books waiting to be read. I plan to do a mixture of longer books and not so long books, especially as the ones I've found for specific countries don't seem to be that long. It really depends how my time goes. My hope is to read at least one 600-800 page book and one 800+ page book a month during this challenge. More if I have time.

Yay! Thank you Vicky! I've been on a bit of a reading slump but things should pick up once Tower Teams start
Janeylou wrote: "On the SS for mini 3 is it possible to put what counts for spellouts in one of unused columns ..different challenges use different things so dont want to use wrong one"I will do that now!

Do remember we have two other Minis as well, so while Mini 1 is arguably the hardest, some books might fit better on another task especially if they are for easy countries.

We don't have to read books in order on the itinerary. So the 11 books on itinerary 1 can be finished whenever and in any order during the challenge. We just can't finish any books on itinerary 2 until all of itinerary 1 is complete.

The mods have ruled that authors descent does not count if they were not born in that country. So for that one, we would only be able to use it for US.

We have 6 out of 11 books already planned for our first itinerary and 5 of those are hard countries which is a great start! Just a reminder that we will need at least 3 of the remaining books to be from the medium country list.

I will probably start with
The Dogs of Riga and get our first itinerary off to a good start. I also have
I Who Have Never Known Men waiting, but just noticed it's quite a short book. I might try and squeeze it in before the challenge starts, but I haven't fully decided yet.
Also, the 17th is Norway's national day so it's likely I will be busy seeing what celebrations are happening locally. My fiance will also be off of work that day so at the very least we will be spending time together. He also has Sundays off. So there is a chance my reading might not properly begin until the Monday, but I'll make up for it in the week.

Who has put Madonna in a Fur Coat on the tracking sheet? I looked up the book out of curiosity and noticed the author was born in Bulgaria which is a hard country. Would you mind if we used it for Bulgaria instead of Turkey?

I just added a 'reason' column to Mini 1 on the planning sheet. I realised while looking that one was missing. You don't have to add a reason on there as long as the information is on your completion post that is the main thing.
Janeylou wrote: "So its 5 max books over our sign up...?"Just to reconfirm what V said that yes this is the case. Remember with this challenge, longer books equals bigger points (up to 1,000 pages). If you do read more than your cap for the month then we can swap books out for longer books as long as they haven't been used in a mini.
Janeylou wrote: "I should be able to manage this SS but i cant link book titles to SS from my phone , but you'll have proper link when i do completion post ..is that ok"Yes, that is fine. We will use the information from your completion post when we move it over to the official sheet anyway. The planning sheet is more of a visual guide for us all to know where we are at with the minis.

Hello team! Here is the tracking sheet we mentioned earlier.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...As we said before, it's only really to be used to keep track of the Mini's so we can see who is reading for what task. You don't have to use the spreadsheet, but in that case if you could let us know here if you are reading for anything in particular for the Mini's, we can get that information moved over so it is all in one place.
We will require you to do a completion post here when you finish a book. We will show you an example of how we would like a completion post to look, but as long as it has the important information like book title, author, date completed, page length and any mini tasks it works for then it should be fine. And remember books should be added to your shelf, but we will prod you if you forget.
