We truly need to do this, but the idea of all the paperwork is enough to make me cling to our 4%

That is truly evil.

34844 Motherless Brooklyn.

Very well done. Granted, I've never read the book. The SO had read the book and was a bit disappointed with the subplots that were cut, also the ending, but I thought the historical detail was excellent, the acting terrific--and (don't tell the SO) I didn't mind the pared down plot and likely more upbeat ending.

34844 So here's my question: do you think Ashe would have killed Taylor?

And still on this line of conversation, because it's what terrifies me for the next election (which increasingly I believe will see Trump reelected) this is an bleak indication of how ignorant and partisan and morally bankrupt this country has become.

The concert was terrific. The experience of the concert. We played in a beautifully organized little community center in Lincoln county right by the ocean. Our hotel rooms looked out over the sea and it was incredible. Plus there was a great little restaurant there where we had dinner every night.

The music was good. We didn't have our usual bandmate guitarist, we were playing with an old friend--one of the guys who got us involved in performing Celtic music to begin with--so it was challenging and exciting for all of us to have to push ourselves, challenge ourselves creatively in a way that none of us have done in maybe 15 years!

That was more rehearsing than we've done since our last album was recorded! :-D

This mentality is so weird to me. How absolutely undemocratic--UNAMERICAN--do you have to be to think it's good and fair for you to not allow other people to vote for who they want. What the hell could you possibly be thinking?

Good for him. Those profiles in courage really stand out these days.

The house is nearly ready and it looks fantastic. If I do say so myself. :-D The new floors, the new fireplace--the plantation shutters aren't installed yet, but those are the only thing left. It's so cute, I want to live there again!

Well, okay, maybe not. It's not nearly big enough for us, but it's really adorable--though the front and back yards still have to be restored.

34844 Last Act in Bermuda by David Burnham. I read it in two nights.

Excellent Golden Age mystery -- Burnham's only foray into mystery fiction.

American Eagle. I love that name. It's so dreadful and yet so on the mark of what these two would come up with in this ill-advised adventure. :-D

34844 Oh and one other bizarre thing that happened this month.

I was driving home in the rain one night and every warning light on my dashboard went on. So the SO took it to the shop the next day and as they were working on it, trying to figure out what was going on, A RAT JUMPED OUT OF THE ENGINE BAY THINGIE AND RAN OUT OF THE GARAGE.

Not kidding. There was a rat's nest in the engine. No, there was a rat in the engine!!!

That was my January.

34844 1 - Puppy kisses

2 - Finishing Blind Side. On the one hand, it's so difficult saying goodbye to characters I've known and loved this long. On the other hand, I am so relieved that there's one less book for readers to scream at me about.

3 - A New Year. I mean, I know we already acknowledged this, but I am so grateful for a fresh start and the possibilities of this year. (Once I can get past these first two marathon months!)

4 - Chocolate. Because there's still A LOT left from the holidays

5 - Crossing things off The List.

34844 I'm in the midst of packing for a weekend gig in Oregon, but since Blind Side went live a couple of days ago, I thought I really needed to at least check in!

I'm having a kind of ultra stressful time right now. It's just sort of the way things are working out.

When we moved a couple of (FIVE!!!!????) years ago to our new house, I decided to keep the old one. It was mine--purchased before I met the SO (and how proud I was of that achievement!) --and it's a really adorable little place--very cottage-like and cute. The garden was wonderful. I'd brought it up from bare dirt and it was my first real garden that wasn't mostly in containers.

Anyway, I thought we could rent the old house out and it would be a second source of income, which seemed smart given that I don't know how long I can continue to creatively produce--or whether people will continue to buy my books. A life in the arts is a precarious one.

Anyway, the idea was the SO would get the old house prepped for renting. But...it never happened. So five years of just sitting there empty took a toll as you may imagine. The garden died, some of the appliances died, the roof leaked, tiles fell off the fireplace, etc.

Short story long, we're now about to rent it to one of my sisters and her family, and there is one HELL OF A LOT OF WORK having to be done. I've spent 14K in two days. GULP. And that doesn't include painting the interior, which it desperately needs.

Anyway, lots and lots of work and stress involved in trying to get this ready in time because in one month her landlord went from "We have an eight year plan" to "California is too liberal, we're leaving NOW."

Whaaaaaa--???

So that's that. Then we have gigs. All at once we're getting all these singing gigs. WTH. We were about to disband last year and now suddenly we're playing everywhere.

(Not like the old days when we had years of two regular week night gigs (We used to play the Tam O'Shanter in LA every Friday night!) but for us now days? A lot of gigs. Two this month alone. )

Then the puppy. Spenser the Maniac. I love him with all my heart, but could my timing have been worse? I'm so worried the SO is going to forget to keep an eye on him and something will happen while I'm gone.

Oh and finally SO MANY PROJECTS. And so much writing business that I can't keep up on.

Anyway, if I've been a bit scarce, that's why.

But at least I got Blind Side out!
