2 - Vintage costume jewelry--Monet, Trifari--from the 60s and 70s.
3 - The SO getting more and more creative in the kitchen. We had roasted duck the other night and a few nights before that we had something called "super" French fries (probably the best I've ever eaten)
4 - Marlowe and Spenser chasing each other through the house, out the doggie door into the yard and then racing back into the house. :-D :-D :-D SPENSER BARKING AT THE TOP OF HIS LUNGS THE WHOLE TIME.
5 - Schemes, dreams, and typing machines. ;-)

LOL

And then for a break, DATELINE.
LOL
No wonder my nerves are shot.

Anyone know a good mai tai recipe?

But hey. Better today! Even sort of chatty. ;-D
2 - GRL being cancelled.
I know that sounds weird, but I was so disappointed that I was going to have to miss all the fun--but no way was I comfortable with the idea of getting on a plane and traveling for 6 or 7 hours to then spend a week in a hotel YIKES!!! So I'm glad the event is cancelled--let's say postponed--and I'm hoping with all my heart (counting on it) that we can all be there next year.
3 - My favorite new cocktail which I call Variation on a Birthday Cake Martini. Made with Godiva White Chocolate, Chambord and Birthday Cake vodka. Oh baby! Too sweet to drink more than one. Or maybe two.
Possibly three.
4 - The Farmer's Dog dog food. Even Spenser, the pickiest little eater in the world, LOVES this dog food. He's gobbling up his meals and my hope is he'll put on a little weight. He looks like those poor dogs in those heart-wrenching Sarah McLachlan commercials.
5 - We're still healthy, still safe so far. GULP. California's numbers are terrifying.

Honestly, there are many good things about today, and I've been trying to remember and focus on that. I went through about two fairly grim weeks where I just couldn't seem to focus on anything but all the very bad news.
But I think I'm past that, at least for now.
So the best thing about today is feeling more energetic and upbeat again.

Congratulations! I'll bet this was a particularly trying season.
We did our taxes on-line, but still had to drive down to sign everything. Usually, whether the news is good or bad, we would stop on the drive home to have lunch and celebrate the worst chore of the year being over. :-D This year we did Door Dash and I made cocktails.

Not that there's a lot to report. :-D
We celebrated 4th of July with my family. It was a socially distanced event, of course--California's numbers were rising even then (though that's nothing to where we are now). It was so great having everyone together. It felt like old times. It felt normal.
Then we had our taxes. It took a solid week to gather everything and do the math. Ugh. My earnings remained fairly stable but we took a significant hit given my efforts last year to promote and market--or, more precisely, to LEARN HOW TO promote and market.
Hopefully it all pays off in the end.
I'm still not writing, but at least I'm *thinking* about writing.

This is crazy and also really fascinating about what’s under copy..."
I know it's unusual for an author to feel this way, but I do believe that copyright should NOT ever extend for more than twenty-years beyond the death of an author.
That allows for the protection of the author's children through adulthood--and that is all the protection or financial comfy-cushion anyone needs. It is not good for people to rest on the laurels of those who came before. Everyone needs to earn their own way--for their own good. For our own humanity and self-resilience we need to forge our own path in life. At least once we reach adulthood. (Obviously children should be protected and sheltered--especially following the death of a parent.)
In the case of the Holmes estate, these convoluted arguments are increasingly ridiculous. Giving Holmes a love of dogs could be something an author came up with on their own. It's not like it's an unusual character trait. There are certain logical conclusions any author could draw from what we already know of Holmes and the era he lived in.
Er, if he had actually lived and was not a fictional character.
But there's also the question of how Agatha Christie's heirs have blatantly ignored her wishes regarding her characters and literary estate so that they could basically avoid ever having to earn a living, having to achieve anything in their own right.
Obviously, I want my rights as a creator protected. I support myself and my family through my creative endeavors. I don't need to be competing with imitators and pirates in regards to the production and sale of my own work. :-D But after my death? I don't need those protections. And no one else deserves them.
So many of these copyright battles are about business conglomerates like Disney trying to profit from the work of artists--who half the time they stiffed in real life! It's not about protecting the rights of the artists themselves.
But as I say, this is an unusual attitude from an author.

LOL

2 - Air conditioning. It is SO hot out there. Even at night. Especially at night because we open everything up.
3 - The current polls that show Biden beating Trump. PleasepleasepleasepleaseGodplease.
4 - What I have managed to get done these past months. If I think about what I haven't accomplished, I feel overwhelmed, but I actually have managed to do a lot of stuff. Not all of it creative. Some of it just stuff that's been on the Things To Do list forever (the bar area is a case in point). So maybe I'm not writing, but I can find my fish forks!
5 - John Mulaney. No matter how many times I watch his comedy specials, I always laugh.

Our grandniece celebrated her first birthday this past Thursday and we had a small backyard (mask-wearing) gathering this morning at one of her grandfathers'. Babi..."
I'm so sorry to hear this, Karen. I'm so glad she had such a long, full life right up until the end.

It's time we start debating what to read for next month's BOM! I am opening up the idea that maybe we read a nonfiction Black Lives Matter book instead of our usual queer fiction. Pl..."
I think this is a great idea, by the way!

:-D Living in SoCal EVERYONE is working on a screenplay.

Still not able to write with any focus or purpose. It's frustrating, but I've been busy PLANNING to write, which is hopefully the first step to getting back to normal.
We're reorganizing the bar area. :-D That's pretty much symbolic of where my head is at right now.

For a first time effort, yes! It went well...."
AND YOU CALL YOURSELF A FAN??!!! :-D
