The pace is relentlessly relaxing. :-D

It's hard not to get angry and upset with the relentless and idiotic shenanigans, but they're not going to prevail. Biden will be inaugurated on January 20th and we will move forward as a country (with whoever is left).

34844 1 - Carefully choosing just the right gift (I hope!) for everyone on my list.

2 - Spenser's little moans and grumbles as he naps on the back of my chair ) his snout buried in my shoulder. :-D I HOPE HE IS NOT CRITIQUING MY WORK.

3 - Ebay. I've said it once, and I'll say it again, there is the most weird and wonderful stuff on Ebay. Even if you don't buy anything, it's so fun to browse.

4 - Reading. I've just started our Christmas selection--this is the first book I've read since last year! It's such a relief to be able to focus again.

5 - The holidays. As peculiar as this year is, I'm still filled with happiness at the idea of the holidays. I know we'll manage to carve out little bits and pieces of joy even in lockdown.

It's scary. Especially the persistent messaging that it's going to get a lot worse before it gets better.

Ditto on all of that. The not being able to read was bad enough, but being unable to focus on a film or listen to music with crying...that was the worst.

34844 Best thing about today...

I am back to work and feeling excited and hopeful and even creative.

Also determined to ignore the rest of the holiday leftovers. It is my job to impersonate the garbage disposal.

I think Biden will do his very best to honor his promises. But of course, if we don't take the senate, all the good intentions in the world will go nowhere.

Yes to all of this.

There was no guarantee that there would be a vaccine, so this is wonderful news.

Oh no. I'm so sorry, Antonella.

But so glad for the new kitten. I hope you both love each other dearly for many years to come.

34844 1 - 2/3 of my holiday shopping complete!

2 - Another "successful" Thanksgiving. We do such a big, formal feast that it is frankly EXHAUSTING. I try and make every minute a treat for my family. From the flower arrangements to the music, I want everything to make them feel pampered, cherished. Once it's over, I feel so happy and pleased and ready for the holidays.

3 - Spending the day after Thanksgiving lounging on the sofa with the SO (and the pups). We napped and ate and watched film noir almost the entire day. It's literally years, since we did something like that. :-D

4 - Working on this year's Advent Calendar. It's a huge amount of work, but also kind of relaxing putting this Thank You to My Readers together.

5 - Gorgeous autumn weather. Sometimes it stays so warm the trees don't really change colors, but this year, the trees are beautiful: roses and red-gold foliage against deep blue skies.

That sounds lovely!

We're in a funny position in that my niece is now working for me a couple of days a week, and I walk with one of my sisters twice a week, so our three family units are very much in regular contact. After much back-and-forthing, we decided to go ahead and have Thanksgiving as usual (with windows open, however, and my dad--who had just been to Kaiser to pick up meds, sitting at a separate table).

I can't say I was completely comfortable--I felt guilty about getting together, even though commonsense tells me we're already exposed.

But anyway, we respected the curfew, so it was a lovely but brief gathering. And the food was pretty much perfect (for once) because I remembered to use my heating tray! Hot food. Who knew?!

It's probably like a wine tasting. If you don't want to be plastered within the first ten minutes, you have to take tiny sips--or even (ack!) spit the wine out (no way in hell do I spit wine out unless it is truly undrinkable).
