3113 disorder or syndrom? hmm brain fart.
Jan 22, 2009 12:45PM

3113 Now they just need to solve the phantom limb disorder; that alone would be worth 15k to amputees.

3113 and that plan is flawed because...

3113 well they are pretty small... next time you go pickup a handful and spread it in your palm, you will see it, and it does make one mad. Plastic mold factories use water to spray out coppers, pellets go down the drain and end up at water processing plants, but they are too small to get caught in the filters so they end up in the sea after their long journey.
3113 something that also disturbs me is the plastic pellets you can find on any beach. they are there, you may not notice them unless you really look closely. I have yet to find a beach that wasn't covered in raw plastic mold pellets.
3113 I concur Jackie. I think I like when we agree on things. Gives me hope that there is a middle of the road out there somewhere.
3113 I think all the hot air Lisa is spewing is the cause of global weirdness.

3113 violence isn't that fastest way to peace?
3113 I don't see how carbon credits or any other such proposed plans would help in predicting which way the temp finally swings. IMO we are heading for a deep freeze; following the natural cycle. I don't think this has anything to do with human activity. So let's assume were going cold what to do...

Ok now lets assume were going hot, what to do...
3113 The problem is the proposed solutions do nothing about the real world affects of climate change. The climate IS changing, it doesn't really matter if the cause is humanity assisted or not. It is changing, and changing in a very unpredictable manner. What should be the focus is how to harden ourselves to survive it. If the temp goes up what are we going to do, if the temp drops what are we going to do. Up or down it doesn't really matter the effects are the same, agriculture is down the tube. So I say again, for about the 30th time that this conversation has risen to the surface, What to do about climate change, not why.

3113 True very true; My concern is that negative gay terms are used regularly, and not always as jokes.

My fear: Some sweeping legislation that flips the military on its head; gay men and woman think, I have served with these guys/girls for years, there might be a shocked dude or two but here I go... then they start noticing that when libo comes around their alone, on PT runs they find their sparing buddy is being pretty rough, maybe even some open attacks.

Does any of this mean it is right to keep them under the table? no. But they need to ease into this. just jumping in will drown a lot of good people on both sides of the sexuality spectrum. You heard it here first.

3113 yes I do.
Jan 14, 2009 08:10PM

3113 sorry I don't know what happened but goodreads ate half of my last message:

I know there are gay people in the military. But openly gay people tend to be in your face about it. This pisses people off that don't agree with their lifestyle chocies; this will cause problems.
Don't ask don't tell defuses unnecessary conflict. there is plenty of conflict already in close quarters living. adding in additional accelerates is well, stupid. I might be going out on a limb here but... out side of a small percentage of the population many people don't agree with the gay lifestyle. The past election provesas much. Right or wrong is not what I am debating here. What I am debating here/ trying to get to the bottom of, is how to allow the gay community to openly serve their country, without causing a major disruption in the way our military operates. it is a human machine and it's performance is affected by emotion. If you force this into the UCMJ there is going to be a lot of resistance and possibly violence. There is a good chance of violent gay hate crimes. Does that help anyone? does that help bring them in the open and proudly serve? No it is going to alienate them.

Personally I think they should leave well enough alone;for the time being. Every year that passes people are more and more tolerant of the gay community. in a few years maybe there would be an internal demand for change. I don't see that today, I see a bloody mess if this is forced upon the military.

3113 I disagree, and it is not the same. men and women don't shower togeather, but men do.
Jan 14, 2009 04:09PM

3113 That is fine if you work in an office a little different with the military. How often have you showered with your co-workers? Should we just integrate the facilities so men and women use the showers in the same rooms at the same times like in Starship trooper’s scenario? I'm being a little snarky, but the military can not be referred to as a common job, or work place. It is an institution, it is a life style. It is what it is, and it doesn't accept change well. What ever change happens it will take years to accept, just like it did when don't ask don't tell came out. All current members have been built to think a certain way. Don't ask don't tell is part of that way.
3113 I tried to lean a package of tortillas over the bar once, all that did was tear up the packaging and ruined my stuff, no taco that night {:-/

3113 well that depends a lot on what his plans are. I am no homophobia but that doesn't mean this will go well. During my service there were those that I always suspected as being of that orientation. But it wasn't in anyone's face so those with a problem could ignore it, and those that didn't care still didn't care. With the aggressive culture in today's gay community I can see some conflict erupting if things are not handled properly.

What would be proper... I haven't a clue. I know if this really does happen it needs to happen carefully.
3113 hmmm very innovative of you!... I have never thought to do that, I always walk around the store taking my gloves off and on.
