DHASG Cupcake Wars Quarterly Challenge
Duration: March 20, 2014-August 1, 2014
Introduction:
In honor of one of the most delectable desserts, and the Food Network TV show built around them, let’s have our own version of Cupcake Wars! It’s not just dessert or a book challenge. It’s war! For this challenge, the participants will have to assemble a formidable collection of cupcakes (with books representing each one) to make it to the finals! The more cupcake flavors you present, the higher your score!
Instructions:
1. Members can sign up at any time during the challenge after the thread opens until midnight on August 1, 2014. Post your initial and final stats (and any updates in between you choose to add).
2. A book can only be used once in the challenge.
3. Books can be from any genre unless explicitly indicated in that part of the challenge.
4. Books must be read between March 20, 2014 and August 1, 2014. Books can overlap with any other challenge on the group taking place during this time period.
Levels:
1. Cupcake Champion: Select and read 16 or more different flavors/books
2. Cupcake Finalist: Select and read 8-15 different flavors/books
3. Cupcake Newbie: Select and read 6-7 different flavors/books
Cupcake Flavors:
1. Red Velvet Cupcake—read a book set in the United States South.
2. Chocolate—read a dark-themed romance or a thriller or suspense novel.
3. Vanilla—read a traditional style romance (contemporary or historical).
4. Carrot Cake--read a book with a lead character who is into healthy living.
5. Green Tea/Macha—read a book set in Asia or involving any Asian culture(s).
6. Lemon--read a “tangy” or angsty (makes you cry) book.
7. Mocha—read a book with a lead(s) who is in law enforcement.
8. Peanut Butter and Jelly—read a book with a dynamic duo.
9. Marble/Swirl Cupcake—read a book with an interracial or cross-cultural romance (two characters from different ethnic or racial backgrounds.)
10. Tiramisu—read a book that involves Italian culture or is set in Italy.
11. Apple Pie—read a book with a member of the United States military service.
12. Banana Cream Pie—since bananas are naturally radioactive and most bananas we eat are clones of one original strain, read a science fiction or sci-fi romance novel.
13. Rocky Road /S’Mores—read a rocky road to romance book or a book that involves camping or surviving against the elements.
14. Salted Caramel—read a book with a main character who is ‘salty’ or grumpy.
15. Cherry—read a book with a lead who is a virgin.
16. Oreo Cookie--Read a book where opposites attract (like cookies and cream).
17. Coconut Cream—read a book set in an exotic location, preferably an island setting.
18. White Chocolate Raspberry—read a book set with an upscale, high class setting or characters (if historical any novel involving the Ton or royalty will count).
19. Nutella/Hazelnut—Since Nutella has a ‘smeared’ reputation, read a book with a main character who has a bad reputation.
20. Dreamsicle/Orange Cream—read a fantasy or fantasy romance novel.
21. Rainbow/Sprinkles—read a children/middle grade book or a book with children as main characters.
22. Pumpkin Pie—read a holiday or seasonal (the holiday is your pick) romance.
Bonus: Select up to three additional cupcake flavors not listed above for challenge and describe how your book fits the flavor.
Any Questions???

Option E--Dangerous Hero Scale :
Instructions:
Rank the heroes from ten books with dangerous heroes that you read in 2014 from 1-10 according to their dangerous hero quotient.
Dangerous Hero Quotient Key:
10: Completely lethal, seemingly remorseless, has no problem killing to get the job done, or killing as the job. Killing someone doesn't phase him. It's either him or them and don't let someone be after someone he loves. More or less amoral-except when it comes to things that have true value to him (like his heroine or his family). The mission is all that matters to him (at least until he falls for his heroine).
9: Not the guy to mess with. He has few boundaries he won't cross.
8: He can be ruthless. Not above doing almost anything for self-promotion. Has and will betray those close to him if needed. He has a code, but it's his own code--not necessarily in line with established laws, rules, or mores.
7: Most people would probably consider him insane or crazy, or just kinda whacked in the head. A scary guy.
6: Ruthless to get the job done, or to get what he wants/needs/or to protect others.
5: A hero who still has the aura of a bad boy, but is more laid back and open and not necessarily quite as ruthless. Any hero who has stalkerific tendencies is automatically a 5. He's not the type that is completely unpredictable.
4: He has shown that those who mistake him for a ordinary, nice guy are wrong. He'll surprise you!
3: He will do 'bad' things for reasons he feels is necessary, and not feel too much regret about it. He has no problem claiming, kidnapping, or taking his heroine when the situation calls for it.
2: Slightly more volatile than a 1. Most of the time he is very well behaved, you just don't want to get him riled up!
1: Mild-mannered most of the time, but when his fuse gets lit, watch out. He becomes the most dangerous man in the room.

@ Dina, I think those locations are used a lot in romance books, so I can feel your pain!
