DHASG June Challenge
Introduction: June is here, the prelude to summer, and the kiss goodbye of spring. Let's read away the month!
Rules:
1. Any member of the DHSAG can sign up for the challenge throughout the month of June.
2. All books must be read between June 1st and June 30th.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.
4. Post or link to your final stats when you are completed.
5. In your stats, list book name, title and date read. Unless obvious, include why you choose a certain book in parenthesis in your stats.
Levels:
1. Summer To-Do List: Read 9-12 books.
2. Say Hello to Summer: Read 5-8 books.
3. School is Out: Read 3-4 books.
Categories:
1. Wedding Fever: Since June is the most popular month to get married, read a book where a wedding takes place.
2. Candy Shop: June is Candy Month. Celebrate the sweet tooth by reading a book that represents candy in a general or specific way. It could have a picture of candy on the cover, a character could love candy, or be a candy maker/seller, be named after candy, or the book title or author is named after a candy. Examples: Reese, Ruth, Candy, Candice.
3. Cat People: Since it's National Adopt a Cat Month, let's read a book that includes a cat of any kind in the storyline. You could also use a book that has a cat on the cover.
4. I Dare You!: For Dare Day on June 1st, take me up on a dare. Read a book that's out of the norm for you, finish off a series, read a new to you author. You could also read a book where the main character does something 'daring.'
5. Name Your Poison: This day on June 8th is related to the saying in which you pick from a series of options, aka "Name Your Poison." You can come up with your own way to meet this category, or you could read a book that relates to making a hard choice, or has a storyline involving poisons of some kind. If you like mysteries, you're in the money!
6. The Meaning of the Rose: Since June is Rose Month, use a book to represent a different meaning of the various colors of roses. Red, for lovers, signifies enduring passion; white, humility and innocence; yellow, friendship and joy; pink, gratitude, appreciation and admiration; orange, enthusiasm and desire; white lilac and purple roses represent enchantment and love at first sight.
7.Smile Power!: For June 15th, Smile Power Day, read a book that makes you smile, or with a character who is always smiling.
8. Don't Panic!: June 18th is International Panic Day, but let's not. Instead, read a book where a character is in a tough situation and struggles not to, but doesn't panic in the end.
9. Father Knows Best: The third Sunday of June is Father's Day. Let's acknowledge dads by reading a book with a father/child relationship, even if it's not by blood.
10.The Longest Day of the Year: Summer Solstice is June 21st this year, and it's the longest day of the year and the metrological start of summer. Read a book that represents the 1st day of summer to you.
11.Forgiveness is Golden: June 26th is a day to forget and forgive. Read a book about giving or receiving forgiveness.
12.Pick One: Choose one of the following and read a book to represent these days--Swim a Lap Day, National Pink Day, Camera Day, Hug Holiday, Meteor Day.

We're having a Summer Reading Program on the DHASG. Stop by the thread to nominate and vote for the June group read.https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
We are taking nominations for group reads for June. Since the month of June is upon us, the group read will start around the middle of June and last through July 15th. The same will apply to each month this summer (15th-15th of the month).Group Read Guidelines:
1. Books should have dangerous hero content and should be no more than NC-17 in content since this is a general audience group.
2. Books can be past group reads, but let's try to select some different books that we haven't read as a group.
3. Please add your book selection with a Goodreads link, using the 'add book/author' function so that it's easier to tell which book is being nominated.
Any questions?
The poll will go up on June 6th.
Nominations so Far:
Against the Dark by Carolyn Crane
Beyond The Veil by Pippa DaCosta
Gentlemen Prefer Succubi by Jill Myles
The Unleashing by Shelly Laurentson
Lights to My Siren by Lani Lynn Vale
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
Katie's Hellion by Lizzy Ford
Some general guidelines1. Note that this is a general audience group, with no age restriction (not designated as 18 or older). We need to keep that in mind when books are nominated for group reads. Dangerous Heroes shouldn’t and doesn’t mean kinky/erotic/fetish by nature. Nothing wrong with those things if you are interested, but there are specific groups on Goodreads that cater to those tastes. This is a broad-spectrum group for all lovers of dangerous heroes, primarily in romance novels, although we sometimes step outside of that genre to action/adventure, classics, science fiction, fantasy, and urban fantasy. As such, any books nominated for the group reads should not be overtly erotic in nature. In other words, if the book has X-rated content, it’s not eligible for a group read. G to R rated books are eligible. NC-17 books will be taken on a case by case basis by the moderators. If X-rated or books deemed not suitable in content are nominated, the group read coordinator and/or any moderator reserves the right to disqualify the book for the poll. If you’re not sure, feel free to ask. If a book is on the hot side of the sensuality rating, this should be noted in the nomination thread and in the headline for the group read, just as a warning to any readers who may not be comfortable with certain heat levels and subject matter so they can steer clear.
2. Also keep in mind, that although we do accept that dangerous heroes can indulge in edgy behavior, we want to be careful about selecting books for the group reads that show demeaning, abusive, humiliating, misogynistic, racist, or otherwise overtly offensive behavior by the main characters. We realize that this can sometimes be an eye of the beholder thing. As such, we will ask the members to keep this in mind when making suggestions for the group reads.
3. At this time, there is no restriction on selecting a book out of sequence in a series, but this should be made obvious, and hopefully those who make the nomination will chose books that can be read out of sequence.
4. Any group member can nominate a book, with the above guidelines taken into consideration. Why not nominate something you haven't read before? We can all discover a good read for the first time together. Any group member is free to vote on a group read poll. Your vote will only count once. You may change your vote prior to the expiration date of the poll. If a book you don't want to read gets nominated, you are not obligated to participate in the discussion just because you voted.
5. If at any time, you have questions about the group read process, feel free to ask. You may ask on the group reads thread or via private message to a moderator or group read coordinator.

Have your dangerous hero must read books stacked up?
Do you have a summer to read list?
As a test, we'll be getting group reads started for the summer. The group reads will last from June to the end of September. If we have good participation, we'll go back to having group reads every month.
Please post here if you have any questions or would like to lead a group discussion this summer.
I will get a thread started for the June group read.
Also post here if you have ideas for themes for the group leads.
