29443 You can use your bookshelf to make dates read and it helps with challenge. You could also create challenge shelves, if you're so inclined. I'm glad you joined!
29443 I would say that Vig is dangerous enough. He's just played in a lighthearted way. Everyone in this book is crazy, so it's hard for him to stand out as particularly dark.

29443 Hi Stephanie. You can only count a book once for the challenge, so you would want to choose which category you are reading it for. Otherwise, you should put the date read along with the books.

Thanks for participating!

DHASG July Challenge

Introduction: July is here. The seventh month of the year, we're more halfway through 2015 and this is the first full month of Summer. Let's see what July has in store for us in our reading!

Rules:

1. Any member of the DHSAG can sign up for the challenge throughout the month of July.
2. All books must be read between July 1st and July 31st.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.
4. Post or link to your final stats when you are completed.
5. In your stats, list book name, title and date read. Unless obvious, include why you choose a certain book in parenthesis in your stats.

Levels:

1. Seventh Heaven: Read 9-12 books.
2. 7th Power: Read 4-8 books.
3. Rolling Sevens: Read 3-4 books.

Categories
:

1. We All Scream For Ice Cream!: In honor of National Ice Cream Month, read a book that represents an ice cream flavor to you. It's up to you. Just tell us how!
2.Compliment Your Mirror: On July 3rd, you should look in the mirror and tell yourself you're beautiful. Read a book where the character needs to do that. In other words, read a book with a character with a poor self-image.
3.So Hot You Can Fry An Egg!: July 4th is Sidewalk Egg Fry Day. It's because it's so darn hot. Read a book that represents how hot it is. Maybe the cover, it's a sexy book, or it's set in summer (hot weather).
4.International Kiss Day: July 19th is the day to appreciate the kiss all around the world. Read a book where characters share a mind-blowing kiss. You could also pick a book with a kiss on the cover or has "kiss" in the title.
5.Different Colored Eyes Day: July 12th is a day to appreciate different colored eyes. If you can find a book with characters with heterochromia (their eyes are different colors (or each eye has different colors within the same iris). You could count a character with hazel eyes (green, blue, brown in one eye) or a character who has different flecks in their eyes.
6.Pandemonium Day: July 14th is a day of chaos (strange thing to celebrate). It could also be a day where the unexpected happens. Read a book where something unexpected happens or things start out or become chaotic. (Let's hope they don't end that way).
7.Lucky Number 7: For the seventh month, read a book that has seven letters in its title or is written by an author whose name is seven letters (total or first or last name), or the seventh book in a series.
8.Cousins Day:July 24th celebrates cousins. Read a book with a cousin theme of some sort (or characters who are cousins).
9.Junk Food Day!: July 21st is Junk Food Day. Read a book that reminds you of junk food. I don't presume to judge a book reader's taste, but you could read the literary equivalent of junk food, or read a book where a lead character loves junk food. Or a picture of junk food on the cover (or in the name of the book).
10.Mutt's Day: July 31st is the day to celebrate "mixed breeds". You could read a book with a character who has mixed ethnic/racial diversity or read a book with a dog or cat that is a mixed breed.
11.Red, White and Blue: In the US, we celebrate Independence Day on July 4th. The colors that represent this day are red, white and blue (colors of the American flag). Read a book with a cover that has red, white and blue on it, or read a book that has a four letter title, or has an author with a name that has four letters.
12.Potpourri: Pick one of the following books to represent in your reading--Cow Appreciation Day, Hammock Day, National Lollipop Day, National Caviar Day, Chocolate Day, National Teddy Bear Picnic Day. Let us know why you chose that book to represent the holiday.

Jun 27, 2015 09:22AM

29443 It's time to start our July group read selection process! Any member of the DHASG can participate.

The group read will start July 15th and run through August 15th The same will apply to each month this summer (15th-15th of the month).

Group Read Guidelines:

1. Books should have dangerous hero content and should be no more than NC-17 in content since this is a general audience group.

2. Books can be past group reads, but let's try to select some different books that we haven't read as a group.

3. Please add your book selection with a Goodreads link, using the 'add book/author' function so that it's easier to tell which book is being nominated.

Any questions?

The poll will go up on July 4th.

Nominations so Far:

Never Kiss a Rake by Anne Stuart
A SEAL's Seduction by Tawny Webber

29443 I started it. I like it so far, plenty of action. I haven't met the hero yet though.

29443 Yeah, that was funny. JG has such a way with humor. Her heroines are always adorable, but you can't get annoyed with them. :)

29443 Susan (the other Susan) wrote: "Ha! No, I mean that despite all our thoughtful replies about how a man with flaws can be sexy... I'd still trade them all for a brief shallow affair with CLOONEY."

Oh. Gotch you. Keanu Reeves is my forever husband. I wouldn't cheat on my husband with him, but my one day real husband just has to understand my relationship with Keanu. :)

I can't get into the biker theme, especially after watching a program about the Hell's Angels. Nothing romantic about that to me at all. But then I can't judge if others like it. I like assassin heroes. :)

I think the publishers definitely encourage the over-saturation of themes that sell well.
