Introduction: February is here! More winter, Valentine's Day, Black History Month, and many other fun events--hopefully some reading too!
Rules:
1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge.
2. Books must be read between February 1st and February 28th.
3. A book may only be used once in the challenge.

1. Black History Month: February is Black History Month. Help celebrate the legacy of black Americans by reading a book that focuses on black history, events that have been pivotal in the ongoing story of black Americans, or even with central black characters living their lives.
2.Be My Valentine: In honor of Valentine's Day, read a book where a lead character loves another and makes a very notable gesture of their love, be it a declaration, a love letter, or action.
3.Love is Never Boring: February is Creative Romance Month. Read a book that features a unique, different, distinctive, or creative romance, either in writing, type of characters or storyline.
4.An Affair to Remember: February is An Affair to Remember Month. Read a book that has a romantic affair or relationship that is one of the most memorable ones you've read. You can certainly do a reread for this.
5.Flirting: For International Flirting Week, the third week of February, let's read a book that has some expert level flirting.
6.Make a Friend Day: For Make a Friend Day on February 11th, showcase friendship by reading a story that features a strong friendship that develops over the course of the story.
7.Invention is 93% Perspiration: National Inventor's Day is February 11th. For this day, read a book about an inventor, a significant invention, or featuring a lead character who is an inventor.
8.The Name Changer is the Game Changer: For Get a Different Name Day on February 13th, You can choose any book that includes a character who has altered their name in any way from the one they were born with, either legally, undercover, going by a nickname, etc.
9.SAD, or Single Awareness Day: SAD takes place on the day after Valentine's Day, February 15th. Even though the initials spell out SAD, you don't have to be sad because you're single. Read a book with a character who is previously single and loving it, either throughout the book, or prior to the climax of the romance story.
11.Cheer Up A Grouch: For Do a Grouch a Favor Day on February 16th, the day is set aside to help out a grouch by doing something to cheer them up. Read a book where a prominent character helps cheer up the grouch in their life, or you could even do yourself a favor. If you're feeling grouchy, read a book that cheers you up.
12.Valentine's Bouquet: Pick a flower out of the bouquet, just for the holiday. Read a book for one of the following holidays: Ash Wednesday, Chinese New Year, National Drink Wine Day, Love Your Pet Day, Be Humble Day, Mardi Gras.

Description: 2018 is here and it’s time for a new yearly Dangerous Hero challenge.
General Rules:
1. Books must be read between the time period of January 1st and December 31st of 2018. You can start as early as 12:00am on January 1st, and must be done by 11:59pm December 31st. A member can join the challenge at any point during the year.
2. The books you use do not have to be romance. If you read a fictional book of any kind with a hero that you feel is bad/edgy/dangerous enough to qualify, you can use them.
3. You can post your book selections at any time once the thread opens, and you may make changes up until the end of the year.
4. You cannot use a book more than once in a particular option. Books between options may overlap.
5. Please let the Challenge Coordinator know if you are signing up, and she will add you to the participant list. Please let the Coordinator know when you have finished your challenges for the year.
6. Participants can do as many of the options as they wish. If they decide to repeat challenges, that is fine, but they must use new books from those used in the first challenge. Please specify which challenges you are doing. Please repost your progress regularly.
7. Participants can change their options and books anytime during the challenge.
Challenge Options:
Option A--Spell Out Your Love!:
Instructions: For this Option, you can choose to spell out a dangerous hero-related phrase using only books with dangerous hero characters. You can use:
1. The first or last name of the author
2. The first letter of the book title (not including A, An, And, or The)
3. If you choose your own acronym and it contains the letter X, the word can have X anywhere in its spelling. Other letters much be used in the specified manner.
4. You can even use the hero’s first or last name, but only once.

You can use a minor or side character or even a villain. They must be bad/edgy/dangerous. You will have 26 different books when you are done. For the letter X, you can use any name that has X anywhere in its spelling. You can use the first, middle, last or an official nickname for the character used in the book.

Instructions: Read ten to thirteen books with a main character/hero who is in each of the below categories. One book per category. The books can be from romance, urban fantasy, fantasy, or science fiction novels.

Instructions: For this option, you get to choose up to thirty book characters and assign them to one of the above characters. Anti-hero: a central character (protagonist) in a story, movie, or drama who lacks conventional heroic attributes. Conventional heroic attributes are things like optimism, honesty, strength, confidence, courage and virtue. Villain: a character whose evil actions or motives are important to the plot. In order to complete this option, you must have at least fifteen characters assigned (and a minimum of five per category).

Instructions: For the historical romance or historical fiction readers on the group, the purpose of this challenge is to read one book for a minimum of eight of the most common dangerous historical hero types.

Option I—Dream Team:
Create your own Dangerous Hero Dream Team. Below are the usual suspects when you have an ensemble cast of characters in a caper film. Read a book with a character that reflects the descriptive characters below. If the book character fits more than one, choose the one you think he best fits. (You have to assemble a minimum of six characters for your dream team).
A. The Leader: He’s in charge and makes the decisions for the crew.
B. The Nimble-Fingered One: He’s the thief and he can steal anything.
C. The Tech Guru: There’s not a computer he can’t hack or a machine he can’t fix.
D. The Flying Ace: He can fly anything.
E. The Beater: He’s tough and lethal with his hands.
F. The Sphinx: No one really knows what he’s capable of, at least until the eleventh hour or when his team really needs him.
G. The Smooth-Talker: He can talk his way in and out of anything.
H. The Seducer: He has the looks and the charm to seduce his way into whatever he wants or needs.
I. The Marksman: He never misses.
J. The Master of Disguise: He can pretend to be anyone or anything.
K. The Transporter: He's fast and furious with a car.
Option J--Create your own Dangerous Hero-Themed Challenge:
Instructions: You can come up with your own challenge that involves the theme of this group. It should be something to keep you occupied for most of the year. It’s up to you otherwise.

Introduction: The Cover Makes the Book! Have you ever had that experience where you read a book just because the cover was so boss? Well, you're not alone. In this challenge, we celebrate the allure of book covers.
Instructions:
Match a book cover with one of the categories on the list. A cover could potentially meet more than one category of the challenge, but you get to choose which one.
Rules:
1. Any DHASG member can participate in the challenge, and can sign up at any time during the year by December 31st, 2018.
2. Sign up and post your stats regularly on this thread.
3. A book may only count once. Rereads are acceptable.
4. Since this is a cover challenge, at least one cover edition of the book used must match with one of the qualifications of the challenge. It possible, post the cover so we can see it, using a goodreads link (add book/author and click bookcover).

1. Cover Librarian: Read 30 or more books.

Introduction: Welcome to the first challenge of 2018! It's our chance to ring in our New Year with some great reading. If you're a newbie to our challenges or a veteran, we're happy to have you join us.
Rules:

1. Happy New Year!: The 1st day of January is an international holiday to celebrate the dawn of a new year. Use the concept of starting over for this part of the challenge.
2.Dear John: The 2nd week of January is Letter Writing Week. To celebrate, read a book that contains characters who write or receive letters during the course of the book. Even better if that is the main concept of the book.
3.Festival of Sleep: This grandly restive day falls on January 3rd. It is dedicated to celebrating sleeping or napping. Read a book that involves the concept of sleep, such as an old favorite like "Sleeping Beauty" or a character who can walk through other people's dreams or who can put others to sleep via their abilities.
4.Trivia Day: This day falls on January 4th, a day to enjoy learning and sharing trivia. Read a book that exposures you to some aspect of trivia you didn't know previously or is built around the concept of some obscure element of trivia.
5.Cuddle Up Day: January 6th is the opportunity to enjoy cuddling up with someone, with a pet, under a warm blanket, with a book. Read a book that has a cover with a person cuddling up, has a teddy bear or a comfy chair. You could also use a book that has a scene with a lead character cuddling, preferably with a loved one.
6.We Three Kings: The Feast of the Epiphany falls on January 6th, a day that celebrates the three wise men who traveled to meet the Christ child. It's celebrated in Latin America and other parts of the world. For this challenge, read a book with a prominent character who is a king, or a wise man (could be queen or wise person), or who goes on a journey of discovery.
7.MLK: Dr. Martin Luther King Junior was a civil rights leader whose life work was fighting for the equal rights of all people and building bridges among people for the betterment of all. His birthday falls on the 3rd Monday of January. Celebrate this man's life and work by reading a book that represents some of the concepts he fought for.
8.Say No to New Years' Resolutions Day!: On January 17th, people are free not to pursue their New Year's Resolutions. Read a book that shows the opposite of a typical resolution that people make for the New Year.
9.Thesaurus Day: January 18th is the birthday of the founder of the first Thesaurus, Peter Roget. A book that lists synonyms for words is invaluable to writers and students. Read a book that has a unique or less common word in its title or has a word you didn't know prior to reading the book. You could also read a book about a writer.
10.National Hobby Month: January is National Hobby Month. Read a book where the character has an interesting hobby and it's a prominent focus of the storyline.
11.This is Not a Holiday Day: January 16th is Nothing Day. To celebrate it, you can count any book you read on that day.
12.You Make My Dreams Come True: January 13th is a day to realize your dreams. Read a book where a prominent character does exactly that.
