all things considered, this is very poor and i'm glad i thought to hear before buying. first thing regarding the awful cover is (and i think it determines the qualty in this case) 'how do i say there's too many white men in the picture'?

snapped up what i suspect to be Dub Vendor's last copy, and very much hoping that this, now re-mastered and containing all 7 tracks in extended showcase style, is the definitive version of what is Black Uhuru's finest album.
same showcase re-issue granted to Gregory Isaacs - may be forced to pick it up as well,

p.s. new Black Uhuru album is sh*te! very poor to put out under the name!

certainly didn't pay that for it (£13.99, free postage, Badlands thru' ebay)
If you were a vinyl record (and not one of The Sensational Alex Harvey Band) in my collection when punk struck, you may have been sold, given away, or in some cases stripped of your label and glued to my ceiling! it was year zero carnage.....no survivors.............except for 3 little lonely cassette tapes, quivering in the corner, which i granted (lifelong) exemptions - Leonard Cohen's "Greatest Hits", "Spotlight On Scott Walker", and this..... borrowed, appropriated and cherished!
Why? Why did it maintain it's unlikely endurance despite being a million miles away from the frantic and revolutionary explosion of punk rock? apart from the quality of the record, it has the feel of an 'outsider' and a 'one of a kind' piece, which matched the criteria perfectly, that's what!
Thought at the time to be a strange pairing, the sublime vocals of Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood complement each other in a perfectly strange, but entirely effective, series of duets. The writing and selection of covers is inspired, the playing of the famous Wrecking Crew session musicians is totally effective and in sync with the concept of the pairing......why would i even dream of throwing it away?
Out of print for way too long, here we are with a US re-issue from Light In The Attic records, (probably worthy of note that an 8 track cartridge is among the formats!), tastefully packaged with that now iconic picture of the two, effectively re-mastered, and with the inclusion of two bonus tracks from the same sessions, all damned good! Although there is nothing wasteful on show, my appreciation was (and still is) based on the brilliance of a quadrilogy of songs in the midst of the whole - 'Summer Wine' is such an evocative song, singing and playing united toward the nostalgic romantic feeling it engenders. the run of 'Jackson', the mind softening dark brilliance of 'Some Velvet Morning' and the dramatic 'Sand' (later covered by Einstürzende Neubauten) is exquisite, songs to put your life right! fans of Gregory Isaacs will appreciate the original reading of one of his most famous tunes in 'Storybook Children', others the great take on 'You've Lost That Loving Feeling' - really, it's all good, and although far removed from the bulk of music in my collection, still unique and relevant, and never thrown away!
