Last time i bought 'Mojo', Scott Walker was still alive and on the cover - was advised that the current issue contains a piece on Jackie Leven (£6,2*******5? sheesh, took out a mortgage!). Actually a very nice 6 page retrospective with some good images! Nice quote from his widow, Deborah Greenwood - 'He was a big fat liar!'

Duke/Tim - our 'league' comp. finishes when the AFL league finishes. the play offs and there on are punted on for fun and charity. Doesn't matter as i'm going to win anyway! 😁

'Love And Wisdom (Ting A Ling Records)

Well. yes and no, really. A really clever and effective amalgamation of the old and new brings us the Prince risen for an authentic sounding new creation! His voice lifted from an interview with John Peel (all permissions granted), set to a piece by French musician, Krone. It would seem that P.F.I. in conversation is not all that far removed from P.F.I. on record, so this helps create a tune that is Old School enough to pass as one recorded 40 odd years ago, an undiscovered track if you like - Could have easily found a place on 'Message From The King' or 'Long Life', such is the quality here!
Of course it's the Voice of Thunder we're hearing, one to put the fear into even the slightest sinner, righteous sermonising from the dread pulpit, and to be honest, it's a very welcome lecture to receive - Familiar themes and warnings, a real blast from the Rast! The rhythm is hard and steady, hypnotic and purposeful, perfect accompaniment for Far I, with a great shimmering synth motif running its length, crucial and tuff! We are also subject to a lush melodica version - I'd say aspirations of Pablo, but to be fair, every player of roots melodica has/had aspirations of Pablo! The release (here - the 12" vinyl release has a further version not on this) is completed by a very capable dub version, both inventive and compelling.
Even as thunder from beyond the grave, it's good to have Far I reminding us of his message - Love and Wisdom!

After all that selling, i'm starting to see 'wipeouts' or sell outs, re the 'big sellers' in my ex collection, I now have no Suicide records any more - 4 lps, 2 cass, 1 12" bagged me £398 (the star being '21 1/2 Minutes In Berlin' at £180). Throw in 3 Vega albums and 1 Martyn Rev for a total of £518. good bit of capitalism.

Is It A Doll By Doll album? It says so on the cover, but Jackie, being the only one left, and the content so far removed, it should have been released under his name. Some great songs on it, but none of the previous dirty, emotional tension that went before. Also contains the puzzling single, a version of 'Under My Thumb' and features David Gilmour on some tracks. So there!
awaiting £20 a throw mint copies (i hope so. they ******* better be!) of 'Gypsy Blood' (the 2nd) and 'Doll By Doll' (the 3rd).
