..........but, ha ha ha! to their (majority of) scum-sucking, bigoted, entitled supporters - too many union jacks hanging from windows round about here - had it been Celtic, my opinion would be the same! any other Scottish teams would have got my support in a similar situation (mibbe not Ayr, mind you 😁). Scottish football will never move on unless those who run the old firm start to seriously take steps to wipe out the pointless hatred that exists, and is a mystery to the majority who perpetrate it. stupid, stupid, stupid!

more celtic genius in the queue after Young Mungo,
Poguemahone, an epic from the Irish master of the dark.
and £2 worth of charity shop goodness, Old Men in Love

if you enjoyed Shuggie Bain, and really who didn't, Young Mungo is even better - beautifully written, heartbreakingly desolate and depraved, this is a brilliant and awful book. what kind of mother sends her 15 year old son on a fishing weekend with a couple of random drunks? painful and compulsive book.

i'm looking forward to Scotland's world cup qualifier with Ukraine - a match that practically the rest of the (non-Russian) world will want Ukraine to win! if we (Scotland) win then we will be all the bad bastards of the day.....and if we lose we pass the big bastard baton on to the Welsh! innaresting situation!

but, yeah, it is fair entertainment, but probably not for the right reasons!

some more great mixing/dubbing by the dreadlocked Italian. doing some great work for pressure sounds.
charity shop 99p bought my (practically pristine) replacement CD of,
discogs.com/release/2671953-Ian-Dury-...
a brilliant album that doesn't require any ramblings from me.
....and for some reason, and the same price,
discogs.com/release/5784849-Bob-Dylan...
a notion bought this (ach, Rab's ok!), the only other studio album i own is Desire (his best? i think so), and on a wee look when wmping it, discovered that this had been Dylan's first no,1 US album since Desire, so hmmmm
,

actually, i know what you mean and there was marked differences in music taste depending on your status in the classroom - this was true of my experiences,
the educationally gifted - heavy rock, metal, prog rock
the sporties (jocks? och aye the noo!) - electric light orchestra, queen, and other non-challenging musics
the rebels and non-compliants - punk
thickies - not really focussed (liked tractors and stuff)

apart from a couple of enduring friendships, i haven't had a meaningful exchange with anyone i went to school with for 40 odd years, and y'know, i could barely give a rat's pecker about them. teachers? i imagine most are resident in the nonce wing, which is where they'd be heading if they taught today!

seriously, tho', you'd be made of brick if the message of this record didn't touch you!
.......and one day, when i've got the time and notion, i'll tell you why punk was important to all genres - even crusty auld proggies! 😁

Huck - 'Unknown Pleasures' was a 'first' in many ways - it sounded like nothing you'd ever heard before. Martin (Zero) Hannett's unique and doomy production in alignment with Curtis's individually mournful singing and the very dark (although not really noticed by the rest of the band) nature of the lyrics - it was perhaps the first 'white' records to properly address despair and grief in a meaningful way. that Curtis killed himself within a year illustrates this, the playing obviously contributed to the uniqueness - Morris's skilled drum patterns drenched in echo, Hook's forceful bass played like a lead instrument and Sumner's meandering and distantly lonesome guitaring. it all added up to a very special piece of work.
i saw them fairly recently after this, and the live show was on a par with the record in intensity and tension. Curtis may or may not have had a seizure at the end f the set (it is known that he had one that evening) but as he came out of one of his unique dance moves it looked as if he didn't know where he was - he walked off, not returning to let the band finish. it really was the stuff to turn your head, and everyone should own it, even if they don't like it!
